    Really great information. We're in London and with Thames Water. I'm about to get a smart meter and good to see what you can see from Anglian. Sadly Thames Water don't have an app it seems but hopefully it will show similar data on their web portal to what you've got. Thanks for sharing this info!

    Around the US it is not a continuous readout, the utility drives round in a Lorry using a Radio-receiver to pick up signal from meters transponder while driving by. Drive by once a month, some places every 3 months. You can look under the meter cover to see what transmitter looks like

    Water smart meter,Ive had a letter through from Anglian water about ive had a new water meter installed,I got to run the cold tap for a few mins for the water to clear up,Then they going to let me know when my new water meter has been activated,Do it means we get any cheaper water costs

    • @daniel_coe
      @daniel_coe  Před 2 měsíci

      Probably not any cheaper, but at least you'll know what you're using and if you have a leak.

    Very interesting. I am with Southern Water and no sign of a smart meter as yet. One question that springs to mind, when they cannot take a reading, they estimate the usage. So does that mean you end up with a mixture when billed of actual and estimated usage ? If so you would never have an accurate actual usage bill.

    • @jamesdc1993
      @jamesdc1993 Před rokem +1

      I suspect the meter will just send the latest cumulative value periodically so the grand total will be correct, however if there's more than one failed communication of the reading they won't be able to say for sure in which hours the water was used.

      @daniel_coe  Před rokem

      I'm not sure yet unless they are still going to have people coming around and reading meters and doing annual billing, when some days are estimated not sure yet

      @@daniel_coe I suspect they will use smart meters to remove the need for manual reading and save the cost of sending someone to do so. So in effect, it would be reliant on an actual meter reading as things stand right now until they can deliver a reliable means of submitting remote readings. But manual reading is a pain for water meters because of where they are. Do they now intend to bill you monthly as per other utility bills ? Whichever way, it seems like manual reading for billing purposes is still required right now to ensure accurate billing.

    • @daniel_coe
      @daniel_coe  Před rokem

      I guess they may bill monthly, but the direct debit never seems to change, only when there is a price rise.

    I don't want them to know my hourly, daily or even weekly usage. From this they can work out when you're on holiday, when you wake up and go to sleep. A monthly overall reading should be enough.

      True.
      It is also unless if you want to locate a leak as it is not live data...

    Anglian just installed a smart meter. Ive been on rates upto now, am I obliged to go on the new readings, or can I stay on rates, what's my rights I wonder.

    Anglian Water installed our smart meter about 2 years ago. We've had no issues and the app is reliable. The data is available the following day rather than the current day.

    When installing our 'smart' meter Anglian Water managed to mix our address up with that of our neighbours! Not having registered for the online/app monitoring, we didn't notice until the bill arrived: twice what we were expecting! Now waiting for someone to come out and confirm how stupid they've been. Boring.

    Example water bill from Kansas, USA. Meter-connect fee $ 20, 1st 27,000L $21, 2nd additional 4600L $12 , Sewer $24, Storm water $8, (meter measures in Cubic Feet, bill is in US Gallons) So Monthly Bill $83 for 31,600L (8250 US Gal)

      I'm at around $76 per month for around 1000 gallons used... that includes sewage treatment, sewage line maintenance, and the water usage. Trade you!

  • @gcp870264
    @gcp870264 Před 6 měsíci +1

    All that lovely harvested data for onward sale.... The real reason for smart water meters. I guess if they can address the meter, they could adjust the rate at which a cubic meter of water is registered (and thus increase your bill?) subject to local demand? I'm not convinced. Just like electricity and gas smart meters, they're gimmicky which only serves to conceal their real underlying use.
