  • AIT is a little tricky but if you are in the later phases and fill out the packets anddd you don't get in trouble then you should be able to do both of these things.

    Hey Matt, I wanna say thank you so much for these videos. I've been watching your videos since sophomore year, two years ago, when I was still overweight but very set on joining the Army. In five months I'm turning 18 and getting ready to talk to a recruiter maybe even before then. Thank you for helping me understand the Army these past two years, keep up the good work man!

    I'm at fort Gordon for AIT right now. We have the option to leave for 2 weeks during the holidays. Our families can visit us here. If your family visits here, you may be restricted to certain things if you are a phase 4 soldier. Phase 5 and phase 5+ soldiers have a lot more leeway.

      So for me I graduated December 14,2017 from fort Jackson. Leading up to graduation they had gave us an option to take advance pay so that we can purchase our tickets from fort Jackson to home. And then home to our ait. Of course the army will always get its money back. They lended us about 1k to buy our tickets. My leave was for two weeks and then I left to AIT. If you’re not graduating anytime soon by the time Christmas comes around then you’ll still be able to go home but you’ll just come back to basic wherever you left off. Which to me is harder because you might end up getting home sick or missing the things at home. Feel free to ask me anything as well. I’m a year and 3 months in service.

    • @droidmagic7
      @droidmagic7 Před 5 lety +1

      Ellis Ferrer I strongly believe it’ll be two weeks since that’s how long my break was. And while I was leaving a lot of other soldiers who had barely started or were almost a month in were leaving home as well. So 2 weeks I’d say. You can buy the tickets yourself or take the advance pay. I would imagine they’d offer the advance pay since we have people who join the army at 17 or 18 and might not have worked a day in their life. The DS will most likely bring up the topic

    I think things may have changed a bunch. I don't remember 100%, but I feel like when I went to Gordon for AIT back in 2001, they really didn't make us take leave on the weekends, even if traveling? I almost remember it being a thing, where if you left on Friday, you just better be there for Monday morning accountability formation.
    Also... after we got marched back from the schoolhouse each weekday, and we had our last accountability formation right after, they pretty much left us alone until the next work day? Unless it was something special that day.

Depending on when you ship will determine if you take a PT test or not. So if it is your first and last drill, you will take a PT test. If you have a few more drills before you ship, then you will be required to take a PT test. Hope that helps!

      Knobbz _ your research would be as good as his on that, bud. I would recommend browsing forums, but take every opinion with a grain of salt until you can come across a general consensus of opinions. Take into account that the military is ALWAYS changing and people’s experience will always vary, as well as how much they enjoyed the job and that will definitely effect their opinion too. Good luck! Don’t get the “I’m going to fail” mindset before you even start. If you stay positive, your odds will increase dramatically. Look up “self fulfilling prophecy.”

    • @bctexposed217
      @bctexposed217 Před 5 lety +1

      If you complete AIT and you are in the National Guard or Army Reserves, you would get released to go home pretty quick. However, if you are active it takes a little bit longer because they have to find a place for you to be stationed at. Therefore, the longer it takes them to find a place for you to be stationed at, the longer you will be at AIT.

    • @bctexposed217
      @bctexposed217 Před 5 lety

      The ONLY holiday the Army gives you leave for in basic training is Christmas. You are able to take leave however long you want within a two week period. You can leave for the whole two weeks or leave for only a few days if you want. However, keep in mind that you do have to pay for your own transportation there AND back!

    • @bctexposed217
      @bctexposed217 Před 5 lety +1

      After graduation, you typically go straight to your AIT site. Depending on your company at AIT, they may grant you a weekend pass to spend the weekend with your family within the general area of your AIT site. So you would stay in a hotel or something off the post but you would not necessarily go home unless you live close enough to your AIT site!
