There is much misinformation in this video, recruiting office says on 6 year contract is at the 3 and 5 year mark of swearing in. Also initial bonus is 4-6 weeks not 3-9 months after ait.

@@MattWard89 Yep and active duty personnel can get interest rates greatly reduced so I'll definitely be taking advantage of that. I was just hoping to get that big check sooner rather than later so I can eliminate them in one fell swoop. Oh well.

@@vidalfernandezwtb9003 being in debt will only affect how high of a level of security clearance you can get. So you might not be able to get a Human Resources or Cyber Security job, but there are a million other jobs in the military that don't require much of a security clearance at all so your debt won't matter.
I actually like how they spread out the money. It makes it so that your some or all of your bonus doesn't get pushed into a higher tax bracket.

Retard, they pay you with money that is WORTH much LESS. Inflation is shrinking the value of money every single minute. A dollar in six months will not buy what a dollar will buy today. Money paid to you in the future is not worth as much: FACT. The chance of an enlisted person moving into a higher tax bracket is not very likely.

I wonder if there are ways to protect your bonus from heavy 'lump sum' taxation -- For example, in Real Estate you can do a "1031 exchange" when you sell a home or apartment building, you have a certain amount of time you can roll the profit into another (usually slightly more expensive) property... The IRS lets you do this for the rest of your life if you want, until you're ready to retire and withdraw your funds... There may be more loopholes from there but that's the most basic one I'm aware of.

We’re told a few things differently.
Especially for bonus and finance and all that Jazz.
They tell us it takes 2-4 weeks. And I’ve had buddies receive their bonus in 2 weeks actually. Pretty rad.
Well due to deployment stuff I never got a chance to really hash out my bonus stuff until recently.
I applied for my bonus about 30 days ago, the 4th and final time. After damn near 3 years.
Submitting 30+ pages of stuff.
I hunted down a finance guy here in Germany (you can guess the cav unit who has us infantry dudes suffer the most)
And had my PSG witness it being done. (Cuz he’s a cool dude imo) got DA-200’s, and copies of the DA-200’s, and copies of those copies. In case they “lose the paperwork” again.
Which they shouldn’t, god willing.
Well...it’s not here yet. Most days I question if I’ll ever see it.
Kinda sucks cuz the holidays are right here.

TAKE your enlistment bonus; but INVEST it. There are conditions that can require you to pay it back. Save it for when you ETS or complete your first enlistment. Also save 20% of your checks while your in. Wjen you ETS you will thank me

Hi everyone, My son graduated from AIT in September 23, 2021. But his Sargent said now things have changed and he’s not supposed to fill out no paperwork. He’s supposed to wait for it to just hit his account. In the meantime, my son is taking out loans for school and I’m struggling to help him pay the remainder of school fees that the loans won’t cover.

If I switch from National Guard to Active Duty do I still get my enlistment bonus/do I have to pay it back?
wow.. back then.. you'd get $10k when you'd submit and get it within 30 days and the rest was divided equally on your anniversary until the end of your contract.. obviously that was for active duty.

You get taxed about 3k , for example My bonus was 9k and i got about 6k with a couple hundred bucks . But i don’t know how it works if you have over 10k it might be different but idk

anybody know how long it takes for a lump sum payment for a reenlistment bonus in the national guard? I've been hearing 30 days to 90 days. I'm about to have a baby in less than 30 days and depending on this.
i wonder what would happen if you got an enlistment bonus for the reserves... and as soon as you got back to your unit from AIT, if you applied to go active duty or AGR? I wonder if you would still be eligible for the 50% of your bonus, or if you would still get the other 25/25% of it later?
Both should be ok. With the Reserves you need to stay at the unit at least 6 months(Arbitrary number) before switching anyways. But nothing in your contract would be invalid if you ended up wanting to switch to Active. And AGR could be done at the same unit, so that wouldn't be an issue.
My first sergeant and recruiter both say 3-6 weeks tops... they said it isn’t normal for it taking 3 months +

What paperwork needs to be filled out after AIT? I checked in on September 10th after I got out and the SFC. Told me it would be 30-90 days, it’s been passed 90 days and he told me he would do a pay inquiry, I asked if there was any word and he said not yet. What should I do?

My monthly expenses are $3500 a month and with bah I’ll only make $2500 a month as an e2. I have communicated with creditors to backpay the difference when i get the bonus and communicated closely with higher ups about the bonus

Do they do enlistment bonuses in the Air Force? I know they do like a small 2 thousand dollar one but that’s only if you sign for certain jobs.
Yes they do bonuses but I don’t believe they are as big as the Army. And they would be for specific MOS’ that’s also how it is for the Army.

SO, this is off topic, buuuuuut do i get to come home after AIT but before going to my assigned unit to gather my belongings and clothes or whatever? I figured you do but if i do how long will i have before having to report to my unit?

How? Asked my National Guard Station Administrative NCO and she said there are technical difficulties. Been very proactive but annoyed af that I probably wont receive it by the time college starts. Kinda pissed off how long it takes to process the bonus and GI Bill and GI Kicker. Just glad my tuition is 100% paid for STA.

Yes but you can only get a total of $40000 in bonuses so no matter how many bonuses you get, you can’t exceed $40000 total

That’s weird my recruiter as well as the goarmy website said if your bonus is over $10,000 they’d pay the $10,000 up front and the rest in increments and if it’s below you’d get it in a lump sum
