    Congratulations on the video, Pulse. You saved me! When I needed to transfer the entire library from Mac to Win, I took days to create the points and hotkeys all over again.
    Thank God, I found this video just as I was able to buy my Mac, but I was already crying about having to do it all over again.
    I did the procedure yesterday and recognized absolutely EVERYTHING!
    Thank you very much and once again, congratulations Pulse!

    Great Video from 7 years ago, some updated may have had happened since then with rekordbox but the main concept of how to move database from one computer to another very very helpful as one of my laptop crashed so I wanted to make a smooth transfer from external hard drive to a new laptop and sync everything as it was on the old laptop and this video was very helpful. Thank you so much! Greatly appreciated

    This video saved my ass. I had a move my database from one user profile on mac os that had issues and was corrupt, and move it to another profile on the same mac. I tried to do it with the pioneer folder is Library and application support folders, but was not successful. your method worked like a charm using an external as an intermediary since you cannot use the move to move on the same internal drive.

    I'm going to make a recommendation on a faster fix to what I just went through over the last 8 hours or so.
    If you're transferring onto say a new computer and your music is in a ton of different folders on your old computer; after you export the database onto the external drive, hook it up to the new computer, copy and paste the PIONEER folder onto the drive you wish to use on the new computer. Then from inside of rekordbox pull the database from that location. Then plug the external drive back into the original computer and move the database from the drive back to it's original place. This will give you the database info on both of the computers. I rerouted the destinations on about 1,000 tracks before I realized I was undoing the routes of the other computer by doing it off of the one database.

    One extra important note when going from Windows to Mac: The external drive needs to be formatted to FAT32 (NTFS is not recognized on Mac in Rekordbox)

    • @NeilMcElmon
      @NeilMcElmon Před 3 lety +1

      This is a great point! Even working from one PC to another it's recommended to pre-format the transfer device to FAT32. I had a bunch of minor errors working on mine so I imagine it's just a good habit to get into from the start.

      HFS+ or otherwise MAC OS extended journaled may be better. It is supported and supposedly faster. The only set back is that this format can only be used on MAC and not on PC.

    Thanks for creating this video! I've been putting this off for a long time, so you've motivated me to make the move. Do you know if it is possible to "Move Database" from an older version (3.0.3) of Rekordbox to newer one (4.5) on my new Mac? I couldn't find a "Move Database" option in Rekordbox 3.0.3, but I did find a "Backup Library" option under File > Library > Backup Library. Would this be the same? Or would I need to update to 3.3? I really want to avoid updating my whole Mac OS on my old Mac (I'm on 10.6.8 and happily stable) just to install Rekordbox version 4 as this is a big reason I bought a new computer anyway. Thanks a lot!

    • @DeejayPulse
      @DeejayPulse  Před 6 lety +1

      If you're moving from 3.x to 4.x on a new computer, I'd recommend using the File > Library > Backup Library function, then on the new computer running 4.5, use File > Library > Restore Library and that will bring it all forward and updated. You may need to re-analyse in order to add key and updated waveforms, but the memory points and hot cues will remain.

    I used Laplink software to transfer all my old Windows Vista computer files / directories / settings / programs to my new Windows 10 computer, with Rekordbox being my number one concern and finally got it to work. I have about 50 playlists in Rekordbox, pulling from about 100 different folders, and sub-folders. I wanted to just move everything, utilizing all the same paths that I had on the old computer, into the new computer, eliminating the need to relocate any tracks. Initially, my User Name, was not exactly the same on both computers, so after making the data transmission the first time, Rekordbox could not find any tracks, requiring relocating all the songs, and because the path in the new computer was not exactly the same as the old computer, Rekordbox would not analyze any tracks. I decided to get help from the Laplink Technicians and they were willing to take control and help but they seemed to ignore all my requests and try to fix Rekordbox their way. Without even asking me, they decided on their own to delete all 5,000 songs I had processed into Rekordbox, and thought they could just dump all 25,000 songs I owned, into my Rekordbox program, and their job would be done. So I became a little angry with them and demanded they start listening to me and follow my instructions. They said what I was asking them to do, would not work, that I'd have the same problem because I was changing computers but I demanded they follow my instructions. I had them factory reset my computer, wiping out the first data transmission, then we made the user name the same in the new computer, as it was on the old computer, and then we re-transmitted all the data, and it worked on the second attempt, no relocating required!!!

    • @DeejayPulse
      @DeejayPulse  Před 8 lety

      +Dave L > Thanks for the comment -- yes, it's crucial that you keep the same user name on both if you're doing that kind of copy/paste, I note that in instructions on the Pioneer DJ forums. If users are following the basic export / move process from above, the user name isn't important. Cheers!

    • @davel6637
      @davel6637 Před 8 lety

      Pulse Pioneer DJ) After I posted my comment I thought I may have just compared apples to oranges. I bought my new Windows 10 computer because I could not upgrade to Rekordbox 4.0, with my old "Windows Vista" computer, I needed a newer version of Windows because I was stuck using the outdated Rekordbox 3.3 . So I can say with confidence that the process I described will work with Rekordbox 3.3, but it may not work with 4.0 or newer version(s).

Otherwise you will have to relocate in batches, which is not impossible, just time consuming.

I've tried reloading the tracks by only deleting one item off of the internal drive and then reloading, but then Rekordbox says it had only found that item and not the others which are still on the internal drive.

    • @DeejayPulse

      No - you can keep them internally if you want but have your database located externally, but to be honest, there isn't much point to that since the database isn't that large but your music files could certainly be.

    I've seemed to have lost all my hotcues/playlist in following the video!
    I followed your video apart from not deleting my original folder on my old mac (call it mac A)... I tried to then load the data and collection on new mac (mac B) from my external SSD, however, when following relocate on the video, because my folders are in sub folders, it could not locate the whole collection.
    I migrated the data over as per video and when reviewing it again all of my hot cues, playlist had gone on both the external SSD and on Mac A. I tried to reload from external SSD and could not locate my original data from the Mac A transfer and didnt seem to transfer over to external B. My goal is to have external SSD as the main drive so i can switch between two macs.
    Im not sure what I did here... my only conclusion is that I must if activated some thing or changed something by accident... please help as hours of playlist and hotcue settings have disappeared !

      Ok I've done 80% of it but I'm struggling with the final step. Whenever I try to 're-locate' my music files, it only automatically recognises a very small percentage of them. Now on the rest of the songs, I go to relocate them but I have to do them individually. It does not give me the option to auto relocate. I believe it might have to do with the naming convention as for some reason the names of my music files in the new computer have numbers before them. Am I able to contact you directly? Thanks

    Not sure what I'm doing wrong tho.. Going from PC to Mac: I've followed the instructions (moved files from PC to external, relocated missing files, then moved Database to external) but when I plug my external into my Mac, Rekordbox does not show a database to move. I've tried 2 different external drives in case one wasn't working properly but still no luck..

    • @DeejayPulse
      @DeejayPulse  Před 4 lety +1

      You can, but I don't recommend it - it will work best if you use a symlink or any other method to make it look as if it's a locally mounted drive rather than a network path.

    hi pulse, thanks for the video.
    still i have a question. i have used rekordbox together with iTunes until now. in iTunes i only have my music where i dj with. on other locations on my mac i have other music just to listen to. i don't want to use iTunes anymore because every time i start a track of my other music it comes in iTunes and automatically it also comes in my rekordbox.
    when i want to copy my iTunes tracks to another location on my mac it automatically makes supmabs of the artists. relocation is no problem but when i want rekordbox to find the other location it can't find the new source because of all the sub maps. i hope you understand my problem as i explain? i am trying to include a screenshot but that's not working.
    regards
    mario

    • @DeejayPulse
      @DeejayPulse  Před 7 lety

      Yeah, that's a problem with iTunes and how it manages the files / folders. Your best bet is to simply organize all of the music yourself, and either stop using iTunes or disable its ability to manage the music files for you. Once you move all your music into a consolidated location, go through rekordbox manually relocating everything. If you don't have many hot cues, loops, or memory points stored for those tracks, you may consider simply removing all the files from the collection and re-importing them once you've put them into their proper locations on your hard drive.

      hi pulse, i have about 3000 tracks all analyses and also categorized by colors etc. so it would be a waste of time to throw that all away. is there a way to migrate all the tracks in rekordbox to an external storage location and when that is done to put it back to another location on my laptop ( without iTunes )? regards mario

    I am needing a workaround as my digital music collection is all organised in genre subfolders in which there would be hundreds of albums or singles located in their particular folders and they will contain the actual music files. But my problem arises from that that very little of those files are in my rekordbox collection, so what I want to do is export the files I am only using in RB instead of all my mp3 collection.

    • @KuKuRuKuVaFla
      @KuKuRuKuVaFla Před 6 lety

      I have tried putting all my RB songs in single playlist and exporting it to an external device and then swapping them with the original files, but it turns out many of the exported files have shortened filenames, which prevents me from automatically relocate them in RB.

      @DeejayPulse  Před 8 lety

      +Dana “DaMixx” Ross > Why not put it on an external drive that you would move between the two computers? Having two databases that "sync" would only work in a method where you have one master and overwrite the other, but both computers would need to have the same collection of music in the EXACT same path in order for it to work properly.

    • @damixx5220
      @damixx5220 Před 8 lety

      +Dana “DaMixx” Ross > So long as everything is also in EXACTLY the same location (file name / path / etc), you could use a sync tool such as FreeFileSync to sync the database files over the network, or you could move your database into a Dropbox folder and have that sync between computers.

    If I want to move my account to another computer will I have it with all the settings etc that I've paid for ? Heard that you can only have a premium rekordbox account on one device so presuming I'd have to deactivate it on old computer and somehow transfer my premium account to new Mac. If you know anything about this would be really helpful rather than paying again.

    • @DeejayPulse
      @DeejayPulse  Před 7 lety

      @Stella > rekordbox can be installed on up to 2 computers with the same license. If you are no longer going to use the old computer, better to use the deactivation procedure on the old one first, then activate on the new one.
      The settings are retained per-computer (in terms of the in-application settings), but all your cue points, etc., can be transferred / moved or copied to another computer by using either the rekordbox database backup procedure, or by moving to an external drive as I outline in this video.

    Hi Pulse. Another Q.
    I've recently cleaned up my rekordbox playlists and put unwanted/old tracks in a new playlist("UNWANTED") Retagged the info of these tracks(album_genre) so they are not in any playlist anymore(i use intelligent playlists).
    When syncing , does rekordbox remove these track from the playlists on the device and does rekordbox remove them from the device????
    if rekordbox doesnt remove them from the device , what is the best way to remove them from the device but still keeping these track on my computer in rekordbox???
    I couln'd find a usefull answer anywehere thats why i'm asking these here.
    Thanks in advance....

    • @DeejayPulse
      @DeejayPulse  Před 7 lety

      If you exclude them from an intelligent playlist; yes, they will be excluded, but they will persist on the drive. If you want to remove them from your export drive, you'll need to find them and manually remove them - but that's as simple as sorting by the album genre and then tanking the "UNWANTED" tracks (from the export drive).
