Would be a cool move if you took some of this revenue and purchased the tracks in your DJ library to support the artists who made the music. It is clear to see from your video that many of them have been illegally downloaded from filesharing sites as they have the URL's in the filenames. That said, I do appreciate the tutorial. Just got to this video after having to import my whole library (over 3k tracks) to my new mac. I've tried to import tracks in the past following the Dropbox process when I changed from another pc to my latest before the mac and it was a complete pain, aside from not even importing the whole tracklist properly. This absolutely crushes it, thank you so much for this, you're a legend.
I think I just tested this and it works across the cloud also cause it's zipped.
this is quite literally the ONLY TUTORIAL I found online that not only made sense, but answered and fixed my issue.

YES! It worked out! I waited with this so long as the last time I switched from Mac, I lost all my tracks. Partly because I did not have an account to simply log in and see everything also because I am not very fond of the US of version 6. But I am 100% sure that after a couple of hours I will get used to it.

Thanks for the helpful video, for all of the people with rekordbox 5 that have to relocate 1 by 1 song, I found the way to do all one at the same time. You go to top left corner to "files" and select "show all of the missing files". It will appear all of the list of songs that are missing. Then when you select all of those songs, you click to relocate, and select one song for example, then it will ask you "do you want to use this location to find the other songs?", you click yes, and it will relocate all of your songs automatically. It's like in rekordbox 6 but a bit hidden haha

I am using computer at home. I would like to bring with me my macbook for one week. I dont need all playlists, I would like to copy to macbook just two folders with playlist. Can I do it somehow or I have to back up full library?

great video DJ Deep Bhamra!! i had a question. if I already have about 1k songs on the rekorbox 6 and want to add all the backup music without songs (already on the computer) from a different PC, would it alter/delete the current songs i have on the collection prior to starting the back up ???(i have some new music/different cue points/ organization etc that I do not want to lose )

Thanks for the video, however can you clarify the procedure I require, as my current Rekordbox Music Library is stored on 2 external hard drives 4tb & 2tb 140k plus tracks, as my MacBook HD is not big enough. So when I export and unzip my library when moving to a new computer, I am assuming I would need a big external drive for when the music unzips... Can you please confirm the procedure.....

Previous to this I backed up my collection and 500 tracks were missing on the external drive and I have no idea why , I’m going to try your way now and hopefully it works with all of my music . Also do you have a fix for the problem where record box doesn’t mark played songs green when playing from An external drive

I've just bought my new machine and was looking at options to move all my music. Gracias deep. This is so friggin helpful to all DJ's using Rekordbox. BTW quick question, I am using a license key on my current MacBook. Having installed Rekordbox on the new one, it's now asking me to buy a subscription. hello dj deep bhamra, I want to ask if the lists I have in folders can be transferred to the new laptop and the cue points remain as they were on the old laptop... I would be very happy if you could answer me...
Does this work for music that is in the "collection" but from a streaming service such as SoundCloud or does it not let you backup because not actually "bought"??

Is it the same principle - copy tracks over to new HD and then when it can't find them just point to new folder (providing you've kept the folder structure the same)?

I've done the method without music before and everything was ok. unfortunately I had to restore my pc (without removing personal files ) because it wasn't starting up properly. When I tried to re-import data again with the ZIP file. it mentions failed. Please assist! Many thanks

Is it possible to export backup ‘without music’ to google drive, then, take my actual folder where all songs are located (To clear up any confusion, not the exported ‘with music’ backup but literally the location of my songs in a folder- and then upload that folder to google drive as it is.

Can you help Deep - My Music Collection is on a 2TB Lacie Drive and I was on a 2017 iMac with RB version 5 - I now have a 2019 iMac and downloaded latest version of RB 6 ready for transfer - followed your instructions, dont want to move the music obviously as Im going to use the same External Drive on the new machine. I made back up which gave me a Zipped file which on restore on the new machine says "can't restore" so unzipped the file to a folder with a large number of items in - which one do I use to restore on the new machine version 6 - by the way I tried "import your library from version 5 or earlier" it asks for RB to be restarted then just opens with no further activity - can you help please ?

Hi there, I'm a little confused by a few things. I have backed up my library from my old laptop onto an external harddrive, and have then restored the library in rekordbox on my new laptop. I am now unsure how to get all of my playlists into my new rekordbox, how do I backup my old computer's library without the songs?
And secondly, when I try to relocate the missing files, it isn't working. Even when I specifically put the correct location into the database search in preferences (ie. in my 'Music' finder). Can you help?
Very good video! But my problem is, i want to Set my Hot Cues on my iMac and use the entire collection on my Macbook. For that reason i copyed Rekordbox with my Music on a Synced Synology Server Folder, so i can reach it anytime + offline.
If i set cue points on my iMac and change the device to my Macbook, there will be no changes to the xml file. Where are these Hot Cues stored?

Is their a way in rekordbox for it to automatically make library backfiles? That way I can set it to auto do this into a cloud storage subscription and have always up to date libraries on my laptop and studio pc?
Hi! i already saved a back up files. 1 with music and 2 without music and try to transfer without music first. because my laptop got problems, now i tried to add and restore it with music files but still said "file could not be found". do i still need my music transfer to my computer? cos i dont have access to my laptop now and i dont have save file of my music there :(

Hello when I put my usb stick into my Mac. I have missing music files for example in a folder on the USB stick Windows shows 213 tracks but when I plug it into the Mac in this folder there’s only 207 tracks so when I relocate I have missing files. Any ideas ?

What if you made a backup without music, with a separate manual music backup, and its now too late to make a backup with music? I had to reinstall my OS and this time Rekordbox finds and plays all my files just fine after restoring, but now when I try to import new files Rekordbox duplicate the rest of my library and I don't know what to do. I have done this same procedure before without the duplicate import.

I have a ?, I did the migration assistant and it copied everything from rekordbox to my new laptop but the Dropbox made a second folder called Dropbox (old) and then re made a new one called just “Dropbox” everything looks fine in the new folder on my new computer, but my upload to cloud feature is disabled as the new version of rekordbox is logged out of Dropbox on my new laptop. It asks to activate this device and then it said it will “merge” everything I just wanted to make sure I keep all my playlists. Everything works great right now but it seems the cloud stuff is off, some tracks are in the cloud some arnt but they’re on my laptop in the Dropbox folder and some are in my other previous folders before I signed up for the cloud. Just wanna make sure it doesn’t wipe my playlists. Thanks deep!

does this work if I am transferring from a PC to a Mac ? I backed up my library on my Pc but when i go to import on my mac there’s no files to select ?
When I click on restore a message appears: this backup may be with a different computer. Adding tracks to the same collection on multiple computers may cause troubles when you want to export such tracks..
Do I still proceed with the restoration???

so basically when i use an external hard drive i just have to back up the recordbox database, not the physical files and then restore it to the new computer installation... relocate is not necessary?

In the past I've backed up library incl.music files and it restored exactly the same, with all the playlists and everything. However if you backup without music files you can not relocate multiple files - not even 1 playlist at the time...you have to do it 1 by 1...the autorelocate function in RB6 may be handy..

Is it normal that the settings aren't transferred with the backup. I mean the order Rekordbox displays your track title, artist, etc ... I arranged that in the way i like it on my laptop, but when I restore the backup on my pc, it's not the same :-/
