You are right about that Sherry. I have dogs next to me and behind me and both dogs are lovely. However, they too barked every time I went outside. So, I started talking to them. They would start barking and I would respond with questions like; "how are you doing today?" "You enjoying the weather?" And then I started praising the animal; "you're a good puppy" (i.e., boy, girl; even better if you learn their names). "You are doing a good job." I did not yell, just spoke in normal range; used a pleasant voice and praised the dogs on their good job protecting the neighborhood. I did this every time I went outside. Within 2-3 weeks, the dogs did not bark when I came outside. If you know the name of the dog, it is even faster.

A suggestion for blocking the view to your neighbor's chaos...a fence with the top panels shaped like treetops, then have one of your artist friends paint a mural on it creating a forest vista. Trompe l'oeil effect, or full on fantasy forest, whatever suits your aesthetic. - Side note: I'm SO VERY GLAD you're back, you were missed.

One thing I really appreciate about the music in your videos is that the volume level is always good: I never have to turn it down. Many people who make videos for CZcams end up with their music much louder than their voices, so I keep having to adjust the volume down and up, down and up, down and up.

You have no idea how happy hearing the intro music makes me. Missed you loads although I know how much work a CZcams channel can be. At some point I was so worn out that I simply walked away from it - and subtitling a love story is no fun when going through a breakup. Glad you listened to what you needed.
It's going to be great to have a guest/music room. Living tiny is great but sometimes it does have its limitations. Right there with you when it come to yappy dogs. We have one in our neighborhood too and I don't know whether the dog or its owner who's constantly yelling "Felix, PLEASE stop" is more annoying.

Your neighbour's dog is frightened, in sole responsibility for the care of an empty house, and can hear you - doesn't know if you're a threat. Why don't you ask your neighbours to: 1. Introduce you, &/or; 2. If they can leave their dog outside in your care for one day; so he/she can learn you're no threat. It's social and cheaper than double panelling you walls. 🕊🐶😊🤗

Just going to say my husband and I decided to double the drywall throughout our house to help deaden the noise with 5 kids. The double thickness actually increased the sound travel. I later learned that the has to be a good between the layers so the sound waves can’t travel. This was my experience.

Excellent idea to use a second layer of sheetrock for soundproofing. Did the same thing in my kitchen years ago because I live in a row house where I share a mutual kitchen wall with my neighbor. Since it is 1 inch thick, it also serves as a one-hour fire wall between dwellings.

  • @chronicfish
    @chronicfish Před rokem

Andre, maybe look into getting a high pitched dog whistle. They make no sound (actually, they do, but only dogs can hear it). Maybe by you blowing it every time he starts barking uncontrollably, he will stop. If so, do it every time he does it.. you're essentially training the dog to understand that he needs to stop when you blow the whistle. But it's sad, coz that dog is probably bored as hell and just needs some stimulation. Are you "friendly" with your neighbours? Is there any way you could make "friends with the dog" and get him some toys? .. if so, a Kong is a GREAT stimulation toy for dogs. It's a thick rubber toy with a hole. You place treats inside.. peanut butter etc.. and they spend a lot of time trying to get the food out. It tires them quick. I know what I'm suggesting is A LOT and it's something the dog's owner should be doing, not you, but if you're going to be living next to that dog from now on, the noise will only aggravate you more and more. Just a suggestion.

We live where there is a Homeowners association. While for the most part I think it is a pain in the neck - they would put a quick stop to incessant barking. The owners would either get the dog professionally trained, get rid of the dog or move away. Otherwise the fines would be very high.

Excellent solution for the barking dog! You may enjoy this poem by Billy Collins about his neighbors barking dog:
The neighbors' dog will not stop barking.
He is barking the same high, rhythmic bark
that he barks every time they leave the house.
They must switch him on on their way out.
The neighbors' dog will not stop barking.
I close all the windows in the house
and put on a Beethoven symphony full blast
but I can still hear him muffled under the music,
    barking, barking, barking,
and now I can see him sitting in the orchestra,
his head raised confidently as if Beethoven
had included a part for barking dog.
When the record finally ends he is still barking,
sitting there in the oboe section barking,
his eyes fixed on the conductor who is
    entreating him with his baton
while the other musicians listen in respectful
silence to the famous barking dog solo,
that endless coda that first established
    Beethoven as an innovative genius.

Hi Andre’!! So glad to see you again and your progress on the house! Does the doubled plasterboard give you any additional advantage as fireproofing? Does it result in increased resistance to fire - giving you a 3-hour rating rather than a 2-hour rating? So sorry about your inconsiderate neighbor, but perhaps they simply need to know that you hear the dog bark, too, and that it disturbs your peace and quiet (as well as sleep!). Good luck with that tricky encounter!

We have the same problem with the new next door 's dog, drives me made and never hear them saying now stop, he barks all day and night, but never hear anything from the people, I know it's not the dog's fault, but keep it under control . Xx

Good to see you. Your crocus look great. Mine aren't too bad either. Lots of tete a tete but lots and lots of rain here. Look forward to some sunlight like you have.

I feel your pain! My husband is a veterinary dermatologist and people ask us why we don’t have pets. That’s why! 😂. Doesn’t mean we dislike pets, it’s that barking! And clients think it’s cute. 😮. Good luck
