    Great to see Riley and Mustafina back but for God's sake, the teams should protest spotlights. That is just dangerous, for beam especially. And they're wondering why so many falls.

      Completely agree! No spotlights! Isn't gymnastics dangerous enough without it?

    • @carliecole2563
      @carliecole2563 Před 3 lety +1

      Yeah... Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure that's just sports & ANY form of "entertainment," PERIOD- they're ALWAYS gonna do stuff so that it's just that much easier for "the fans to enjoy" at complete disregard for the
      competitors/athletes/performers own safety or benefit?! Luckily it DOES look like the majority of these athletes handled this funky lighting pretty well... But yeah, seriously, how could u even ATTEMPT to prepare for something like this?! I'm guessing you basically have to just wing it & hope for the best?! Eek! Good luck?!
      (Example- do you know how hard it is to train a HORSE to get used to suddenly competing in front of a huge crowd or inside a big, loud, echoing, enclosed stadium like this that they will probably compete in once you get to a high enough level?! You can train for 10+ years covering every single little tiny thing you can imagine being thrown your way in competion, but, man, it really is darn near IMPOSSIBLE to train for that type of thing! If you've been jumping in big, outdoor arenas in the daytime your whole career & suddenly you're having to jump 5+ ft high, 6+ ft wide fences in a dark, loud, creepy arena in a stadium like this with thousands- tens of thousands- of spectators?! Theres virtually nothing you can DO to prep yourself OR your horse for that kind of atmosphere! Your horse is either gonna take to it in stride- har har, pun unintentional- or it's gonna completely freak lol. And you'll do the same!)
      I DO imagine this made things that much more exciting for spectators at least?! I mean I HOPE it did SOMETHING beneficial for SOMEONE, anyways...

      Its britain, they can't afford the hydro bill!
      The cost of hydro in Britain is so high they refuse to use 1000 watt lights as they should!
      I bet they tried to get away with using 200watt bulbs and instead of one every square meter , they used one every five square meters, which would be like using a 20 watt outside your doorway at night without street lights...

    Isn’t it a safety hazard to have numbers pinned to their back using safety pins that could affect a beam performance or floor performance when they roll on their back? Not to mention the harsh spotlights that could literally blind a girl midair trying to land a vault or dismount?

    • @carliecole2563
      @carliecole2563 Před 4 lety +3

      Eh, they use numbers like that pinned to the back in a LOT of dangerous sports... We Wear them at lower level/schooling shows when I compete my horses& jump- at bigger, higher levels, you wear a small # on your horses bridle and/or a fabric # pinny tied around your body on cross country- but those are just waaay more expensive to order for all of the competitors than the cheap paper numbers pinned on your back lol. Those safety pins you use with those are generally so small & also pretty DULL- I've known people who have taken nasty spills off their horses and they came off & got "poked" by them- but even if that little thing manages to somehow break your skin even & stabs you 1/2" deep- it's barely more "painful/harmful" than pricking yourself with a sewing needle or getting a sliver u pull right out lol. If you really have a bad enough fall where you land in a way that dislodges your # & pins- you're proooobably saying OUCH for MANY more reasons besides that pin poking you... Probably the LAST thing you even notice haha

      No. You can only earn a nominative spot through the apparatus world cups. A non-nominative spot can be earned by a federation through the all-around world cups, which is what the US is trying to do here--they've been sending their top AA gymnasts to each event, and so far they are leading. Last year, Leanne Wong won the American Cup (with Grace McCallum finishing 2nd), Simone won Stuttgart, Hurd won Tokyo, and McCusker finished 2nd here in Birmingham. This event was from March or April 2019, by the way.

    I hate this kind of lighting. It always brings out the worst in the gymnasts. Always fall after fall.

      Ikr? There was another meet in semi recent memory....Montreal maybe? Where lighting was just atrocious. Athletes and coaches alike complained there, and I would imagine they complained here. There is zero excuse for this kind of lighting- especially at this, the international elite level!!

    Yes the lighting is bad, but what is up with the zooming in and out of the gymnasts' faces on the uneven bars? I want to see the routine, not the sweat on their upper lip. I need to take seasick pills to watch this show...

    Does anybody know the blond judge on the left second at 3:14? I know that she was the judge at the women's balance beam final at Rio Olympic, and she made some funny expression when giving Sanne Weaver's score.

    Me parece que la gimnasia retrocedió. O no sé si es por el cambio en el sistema de puntuación o qué. Pero siento que hasta hace unos años la dificultad era mucho mayor, y las gimnastas hacían piruetas y saltos más complejos. La verdad me gustaba más la gimnasia de antes.

      Maybe we shouldn't make crass judgements on the bodies of these women. No one ever comments on men. She has a 2 year old and has gotten back her skills from winning Olympic medals. Maybe we should salute and respect her hard work and skills, and not worry about her body.

      Diana Laura : I am not a Mustafina fan, yet I must defend her here. She looks the same as she did before the baby. I was surprised at how great she looks.

      Diana Laura : No, perhaps you are thinking of someone else. Mustafina is looking fit, healthy, and exactly as she did pre-baby. Guess there must be one in every crowd.

      I love mustafina but she is fat AF (for gymnastics). She definitely holds weight in her face. She is not in the same shape as 2016. She looks chunky.
