I agree. She also helps explain more of the technical aspect of why and what happens right and wrong. Since the change in points... this ups the ante and she explains this fairly well. It is a fairly but highly complicated "new" point system versus the old points system we watched back in the day Nadia or Olga Korbut

When Simone stuck that beam dismount I totally lost my mind and and starting yelling "OHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! THAT WAS AWESOMEEEEE!!!!!!!" here in my apartment. It was super early in the morning. Thanks a lot USA Gymnastics. It was too awesome and now my neighbors hate me. ;)

natasha harris she's too flat to be a commentator. and it's just her personality. she is not the best choice by any stretch. she was an amazing gymnast, but i'd take elfi back or amanda borden any day. much more energy/enthusiasm/fun/excitement to their voices/personalities, etc.
+snofagun1814 i agree...as a gymnast, she was fierce and successful. She just doesn't have the voice for commentating. Tim and Elfi had much better chemistry. They are passionate about the job.
Yes! Thank you. I would just love to see elfi come back for rio. Seems unlikely at this point, but that's all just a guess. I would really like to know exactly what is going on with elfi - if she was fired from nbc or her contract expired, or if she is perhaps working with a Canadian station? If anyone has any info I would love to know! No hate on Nastia, she's actually gotten a lot better but it's just not the same. Al has to engage her and the chemistry is not there. I don't blame her or anyone really..how could it be? Tim and elfi had so many years of experience together.

+Skarlet Starlet Probably won't happen at major competitions because NBC wants younger girls to tune in and Nastia fits that demographic despite not having much chemistry with Tim and Al and not being a skilled analyst or commentator.
I watched Day 1's stream and Samantha Peszek did extremely well with Evan. She has a communications degree and in my opinion a better commentator if NBC wanted the "young" angle but because Nastia has her own cup and is more popular, she gets the job over other former gymnasts.

its a shame to see Kyla struggle like this. Maybe she should do the same as Mustafina and get the SV up with more gymnastics/dance elements. She could raise her start value on floor this way. I don't think she could raise the SV enough by increasing the acrobatic difficulty now she's so tall.
karenKristal i hate saying this, but i'd be shocked if kyla makes it to rio. she doesn't have a high SV on any event, and hasn't really made a significant amount of upgrades. she's so tall, which isn't her fault, but i imagine it hinders her somewhat. hope she can prove me wrong! i wish her all the best!
snofagun1814 yeah, especially as she's been such a consistent competitor for the last few years, it is a bit of a shame as she can be the most mature and graceful one on the USA team
karenKristal I agree, it's unfortunate to see her like this. While she obviously trains ridiculously hard, like everyone else, I wish they had thought about increasing the SV earlier, and not bank on admittedly gorgeous form and execution for so long. I happen to think judges do not penalize enough for bad form and/or award enough for good form, and this doesn't bode well for Kyla either. I feel like either Kyla or Maggie could snag a spot in Rio, but I don't imagine both of them would.
thetigerbeat007 i thought her sv's were low in 2012 - i thought it was because she was young and not at her peak yet, but we've been waiting all this time for her to upgrade on every event, and she's not even at her 2012 form now. i hope she doesn't read these comments, because i would never want to hurt feelings, but there are amazing juniors currently that most people don't even know about that are going to snag those last couple spots unless some sort of miracle happens
+karenKristal she needs a break plain & simple she hasn't stopped since 2012, had a growth spurt, injuries. I can't imagine the mental wear & tear let alone the physical. I remember Amanda Bordan & Shannion Miller saying the same thing about Jordan weiber b4 12 & look what came about. Gymnastics is a funny sport like that & very unforgiving if you peak or over peak @ the wrong time you're done. I have faith & feel she'll make it back @ least as an alternite sorry to say but that's holds true I feel
I love how all the girls are so supportive of each other. I love how they tell each other great job and give each other hugs after their skills.

Maggie Nichols won 🥈 2nd place in this meet. She DESERVED to be on the 2016 USA Olympic team. I’m still mad and sad about the abuse of these young athletes. I’m proud of Maggie, and how she excelled at University of Oklahoma (OU) and won 🏆 NCAA National Championships!

Ive said the same thing. I think Shawn Johnson was a bit of a precursor to Simone. Shawn, IMO was the first straightforward power gymnast and Simone is certainly a powerful little lady!

Why is noone talking about Kyla's beam routine? So beautiful, her lines, poses, turn, and her feet are pointed all the time.
Watching this in 2019 this is most likely the reason why she is such a star in NCAA gymnastics because what she does is perfection (unlike Skinner or Kocian).
Yes her gymnastics is pretty but it's basic. She doesn't do anything interesting. Skinner has awful form but at least she does do a lot of interesting skills and takes risks. Hence, the reason why Kyla couldn't survive in the elite world.

Ashton's bar routine at 30:40 is just so fluid, i love it.
If you look at the background in majority of gymnastics competitions, you can see the other judges just watching whatever event is going on. For example, when Aly is doing floor, you can see the vault judges watching her when she does her first tumbling pass. I have been noticing that a lot lately. I think it's super cool. I mean, if I was there and didn't need to judge anyone, I would be watching the other events

What a group of gymnasts (the juniors too- how adorable are they?!)! So awesome! I love Bailie's leos and themed performances- such a cool idea! All the girls are so inspirational and so many are stepping up even more than I expected. It's going to be hard to pick teams with all this depth but it's great news for the U.S. either way.

Please tell me I'm not the only one who has noticed this. A lot of the best bar workers (not all) from the US are usually lean gymnasts. Nastia, Maddie, and Ashton are lean and have long lines. Where as the ones with more muscle like Simone and Aly aren't as good.

Lana2k6 agreed! They are hideous! But they are apparently worth a lot, so it’s a way to beef up your SV- of course if you fall (and most do when attempting it on beam) you lose it, so. 🤷🏼♀️

Yes indeed, it still bothers me as well. MAGGIE NICHOLS deserved to be on the 2016 Olympic Team. Still, I’m so pleased she won 🏆 NCAA National Championships at OU. (I watched in person, at all of her meets when she competed in Oklahoma. It was wonderful seeing her win team and individual titles!)

I like what Gabrielle Douglas does, I was a former gymnast and her bars routine dismount isn't as hard as other girls is. I think for rio she should update it
She did a double layout which has a .4 value....I didn't see anyone besides Aly or Kyla (who both did double fronts) doing a harder dismount than that. Most girls did full twisting doubles which are equal in difficulty to a double layout (.4).

Ok, im glad someone else said it. Mykayla is talented....but it just feels like she's punching above her weight.....as in she's throwing skills that she hasn't mastered. Simone Biles clearly works hard out there, but her tumbling looks polished and refined to near flawless. Skinners form tends to be sloppy and uneven. If she brought her difficulty down a Teeeeeeeny bit and mastered form....she'd be a force.
i don't remember paying much attention to her back in these years, I just remember her famously missing the olympics. I just watched her first competition in her comeback and she was a hot mess. Well, watching her in her peak elite days, she was still a mess. I believe the best way to do the most difficult skills is to learn proper form. I have never seen her actually layout her Moors (and I know she performed it first, so likes to think of it as hers).
