- On this week's show, I compare Scorch Markers to a generic wood burning marker to see which one I prefer. I hope you enjoy the show.

Very diplomatic video Ken.. but I think we all see "the proof is in the pudding"!
I try to be as diplomatic on the show as I can be. In person, is a whole new ballgame. LOL. Thanks for tuning in Dennis.
I have been looking for a product that would be able to leave a more permanent mark on wood. Appreciate the process and comparison of these two products. I see a true winner for me. Thanks.
You're very welcome. I hope you found the show to be useful. Thanks for tuning in.
I think your test was fair enough. I have never been keen on most generic products anyway. Sometimes you can find a generic product that will do an excellent job for you, but not most times. In my experience anyway. Great show! Take care!
Glad that you liked it Michael. The ultimate choice is up to the individual but the choice is clear for me as to which one works better. Thanks for tuning in this week.
Great video, I've never used that type of thing before, I use a woodburner, but I may try one of those one day.
The marker work well but take a little practice to get the hang of. I guess that's the same with anything. Thanks for tuning in Mark.
Ken like you said you get what you pay for, this has nothing to do with the Markers a few years ago I was on a Chinese website and saw a set of router bits the 15 bit set was $19.95 USD I figured what the heck I didn't need another set would buy them for a friend, I ordered them 30 days later I received the set as I was looking at each bit I noticed some of the carbide tips some were loose found 2 floating in the case some were not even sharpen, I called the company so I can return them never heard from them, it goes to show you buy Cheap you get cheap
Your story is a great illustration of "you get what you pay for" Alan. It isn't always the case but I have found that more often than not, I am more pleased with a product that I paid a little extra for instead of the ones that I tried to save a few bucks. Thanks for tuning in to the show this week and for chiming in with your story.
Very interesting comparison test. Thanks for sharing. I think I missed the first video on burning markers, but your explanation was very good in this video so I understood exactly what they are for.
You can always do a search on my channel for any show that you wish to watch Hans. Thanks for tuning in this week.
Enjoyed your comment about some obscure woodworking channel that had great content. It does.
You're too kind. Thanks for tuning in.
Kenny, interesting comparison. For this test it pretty much looks like you get what you pay for. Hard to believe the difference on the walnut sample.
The walnut was a shock to me Paul as I never thought for an instant that the species would make a difference. Thanks for tuning in this week. It's very much appreciated.
Great video!
What do you think about comparing the Scorch Marker vs using Scorch paste? You get much more volume per dollar with the paste, but the Marker is much or convenient to use. What is the point at which a large surface area being scorched makes more sense to use paste instead of the marker?
Just some thoughts.
The paste does work well but as you pointed out, it's better suited for larger areas. Once you find yourself colouring larger areas with the marker, it might be a good time to apply the paste. I hope this helps. Thanks for tuning in and for chiming in with your thoughts.
Hi Keny, on your first line you were not consistent, on the scorcher you used the dryer up and down the line, on the generic one you went side to side. This could be why the extra bleeding was on the second line, I am not suggesting that you did this on purpose, but it is clearly shown in the first line.
That one movement of the heat gun does not make the test inconsistent in my opinion John as it is the heat that causes the chemical to react. Even if that one test was to be considered inconsistent, the amount of testing that I did in one day doesn't reflect 1/2 of what this video shows and the results were always the same. Thanks for tuning in and for chiming in with your thoughts. I always appreciate your contributions to the conversation.
In your first video, you found if you were lighter on applying the Scorch Marker, it didn’t bleed as much. And you did that here, by dabbing the markers. In the Scorch maker, the other tip, that you unscrewed and applied the liquid like a dabber. That would seem to apply a lot, correct? How would you use the dabber?
The foam brush is more for the stencils Scott and you can use light strokes instead of a heavy hand to release a little of the liquid instead of compressing the foam and releasing a lot of it. I hope this helps. Thanks for tuning in to the show.
I looked at that other website you mentioned, I hate to tell you but he's copying you exactly ... the cheek of the guy!!
With regards not performing the test in a scientific way, how many of us would be doing it that way ... your testing is perfect with regards how the average user would use it, absolutely nothing wrong with it 👍
I can't believe the nerve of that "other" guy. LOL. Thanks for tuning in Barry and for the kind words on the show. It's very much appreciated.
on the dark wood the generic wood burning marker was shiny where the scorch was not
That could be part of the reason. Either way, the Scorch markers definitely were much better than the generic. Thanks for tuning in to the show.
Is the bleeding preventable by adding something with thicker consistency? Such as MOTOR OIL. 🤣🤣
It might help but I'm thinking it might mess up the chemical balance of the scorching liquid. LOL. Thanks for tuning in.
This is why I have a laser engraver! 😃🛫 I have been looking for the guys CZcams channel that you mentioned I can’t find it!
Don't be concerned about that other CZcams guy. He's a hack. LOL. Thanks for tuning in.
