Here's a compilation of a couple of railfanning days on the Lakeland - Vitis - Plant City Triangle. To purchase my DVDs please go to www.railfandanny.com. Connect with me on Twitter: @DannyHarmonRail
Watching this with my grandson. Hes staying with granpa till sun. His mom and dad are on a much needed break from life. Were going railfanning tomorrow.
What i like about this is you gicve us the locations of where you are catching trains at which is good for anybody whose never been to the area or is a rookie ;)
Really enjoy the maps you have added! I always tried to find the spots on Google maps (helps get the big picture feel), but this makes it easier. What is the situation with the "crossing gates to nowhere"? Looks like land that someone would want to develop in the past 18 years.
Excellent video as always Danny! K974 runs from Miami to Jacksonville. What day was that taken? I was waiting for the longest time for one to finally leave, but never saw it.
that was nice with the 3 Dash8's on that CSX, and nice an SD40 on O822 i think, and just once again, great video, you need tio go railfanning more often, and what type of editiing do you usefor your vids, WMM, or something else. And one mor ething, what type of scanner do you have and antenna, i have just gotten a new scaneer, but the antenna is crap. Happy Railfanning
I thought there was a supermarket warehouse on the Coronet spur that CSX was delivering cars to....that must've been some time ago though. No chance of that warehouse ever getting rail service if CSX takes the spur out. Always sad to see the last train movement on any line.
Danny, this kind of stuff is what I love...so do you know why the road has never been opened to traffic in Lakeland??? That is an awful lot of money for crossing equipment that basically serves no purpose...not CSX's fault but still...and next time you're at Vitis see if you can find that old wye track that once existed there...well, I read somewhere that one once existed there, not sure Eugene
I love this video! A lot of good information- nice locations as well...I can't help but think what it was like back in the 70's! Or before the merger!!! Great video! Rich Hill
In later years, O821 and O822 ran at night and the loads ran thru Winston enroute Central, the empties ran thru Plant City south on the Welcome Sub. Sadly, Mosaic closed Central and a new customer should be getting wet rock again.
AWESOME VIDEO, Danny! May I ask what day you caught K974? I live 3 miles from the FL Rock Plant in Tamiami and the sunlight looks like you caught it recently. Great catches of the other trains too! Faved!
Both 974 and the Coronet move were just dumb luck. Coronet happened on May 9th and several of us were out for "National Train Day". The job caught my attention when they came around the Lake Wales Jct. going south. We chased them down to the Coronet storage track and watched the whole movement. DH
Simply awesome! Not only the camerawork, but also the commentary. It's invaluable to someone like me planning a move (or a least to spend the winters) to FL within the next year or so. Mike from Maine
Experience, my friend. Many hours of sitting and waiting, writing down train numbers, times and locations. Plus some help from company timetables and sometimes...yes, ATCS. Ooooooooohhhhhhh!! :-)) DH
Great job, Danny. Nice catch of the very rare K974 that somehow flew under the radar of both Tim and me, and of the usual suspects and my personal favorites, Q452 & Q453. That spot in the parking lot of First Choice looks really good. Five stars and Fav'd... I gotta know --- Did you plan your outing to coincide with the final move out of Coronet or did you just get lucky that day? ;-)
Ugh, scrapping scrapping scrapping. Why not store them in Baldwin, I mean, that's what they use Baldwin for now, lol. But that's just my opinion. Cool video, as alwayz ;)
Trainmaster told me that's what they were doing with them. The line into Coronet is still there? I understood they were pulling that up pretty quickly in Nov 09. Hmmmm..
that line is still there & it is still used for car storage how do you know those were heading to get scrapped many of them still look good for operation
Lakeland City Center Road. That crossing is not even worth upgrading to those cheap GS Bells or LED's....They should take it up because the road never lead anywhere and it has never opened. It doesn't make any sense. I wonder if that street went anywhere.
Awesome Video Danny! Why didn't they ever open that crossing? I noticed at 2:50, you caught a Conrail engine? Was that the Conrail Heritage unit, or just some old conrail engine that didn't get painted over yet?
This was the old Lakeland ACL Yard. It was planned as an office/industrial park, but somewhere along the line it was designated an EPA Hazardous site due to years of coal and oil and grease washed into the ground. No one wanted to build there, so it still sits empty. Yes, that Conrail leading 453 is an authentic Conrail Dash-8. There were no Heritage units in 2009. :-))
+Distant Signal Sooo, if that's the case Danny, wouldn't it make sense to deactivate the crossing, and remove the gates. No need to have them activated if the road will never see an automobile, or person on foot to cross the line.
Watching this with my grandson. Hes staying with granpa till sun. His mom and dad are on a much needed break from life. Were going railfanning tomorrow.
very nice stuff thanks.
It is very unusal to have a set of crossing lights at a permanently block street. Awesome video
6897 and 6898 are GP-60-2's nice catch very rare!
Great as usual Danny. Looking forward to the Folkston Swamp Fest Video, if you went. 5 ******'s
What i like about this is you gicve us the locations of where you are catching trains at which is good for anybody whose never been to the area or is a rookie ;)
Waycross is a city in south Georgia, with a HUGE CSX yard that services and overhauls mainly GE locos.
Another Job Well Done Mr.Harmon..
6898 and 6897 are GP-60's very rare there consecutive and theres only 3 on the roster! very nice.
Thanks!
Great Video, as usual.
Really enjoy the maps you have added! I always tried to find the spots on Google maps (helps get the big picture feel), but this makes it easier.

Another GREAT video *****
i love that conrail engine
Excellent video as always Danny! K974 runs from Miami to Jacksonville. What day was that taken? I was waiting for the longest time for one to finally leave, but never saw it.
6898 and it's sister 6897 are GP60's. CSX owns three of them.
Most DD's will announce an ID when the first axle rolls over. Then, when the train has fully passed they report.
At least this is how it is ON CSX.
DH

why was the crossing closed for at 47 secs keep the great videos coming
Great as always danny!
No kidding on the gates! That's alot of money to invest for no reason!
I thought there was a supermarket warehouse on the Coronet spur that CSX was delivering cars to....that must've been some time ago though. No chance of that warehouse ever getting rail service if CSX takes the spur out. Always sad to see the last train movement on any line.

The new operator has closed in May of this year.
Sadly First Choice in Plant City closed in April last year.
Awesome video as always Danny!
Alex
i was suprised with conrail
AWESOME VIDEO, Danny! May I ask what day you caught K974? I live 3 miles from the FL Rock Plant in Tamiami and the sunlight looks like you caught it recently. Great catches of the other trains too! Faved!
That old industry is still there and never got pulled up
So these tracks we see in the last couple of minutes are still there today, 11 years on?
@@2themoon863 yes
@@2themoon863 still there in 2024 just extremely overgrown now
Did the defect detector at Kathleen go off as soon as the train hit it? I thought they went off as soon as the train passed over it.
Wow a spirit engine and wats with no ditch light flashing?
For the many years I lived in Lakeland, that crossing at Kathleen Rd always amused me.
Did that crossing ever open and when?
@@2themoon863 if I recall, the gates and lights have been pulled up. Still isn't being used to my knowledge.
Thanks! I appreciate your videos. Very informative.

U work for Herron Rail Video's right?
Danny, you put on some great raill videos, your knowledge of the territory you railfan is excellent and very interesting
Thank you so much!!
when you say waycross is that a city? i think you said it was but cant remember
Why is the 1st crossing never open to traffic??? better yet, why is it even there?
All Your Video’s Are Great Danny thank you Stay Safe
k thanks
why scrap those cars @ the end?!?!?!

at Kathleen
What is your new project?

The Lakeland City Center Road is now a crossbuck.
I think they leave it in because it's the only access to that piece of property. The city and the EPA have to go in there regularly . Just guessing.
What does the Q stand for? CM in Louisiana
An Excellent Catch with CSX's Spirit Of Tampa.
Ugh, scrapping scrapping scrapping. Why not store them in Baldwin, I mean, that's what they use Baldwin for now, lol. But that's just my opinion. Cool video, as alwayz ;)
Great video as always Danny.
Fantastic quality video and narration!
Another fine production Danny!
Exellent Vid, Excellent Narration, Great Job! 5 Stars & Fav!
Trainmaster told me that's what they were doing with them. The line into Coronet is still there? I understood they were pulling that up pretty quickly in Nov 09. Hmmmm..
did you notice that 6898 was an ALCO
K974 is Conrad Yelvington or Florida Rock Industries. I really like your videos. you're my second favorite guy on CZcams!!!
that line is still there & it is still used for car storage how do you know those were heading to get scrapped many of them still look good for operation

We have a pointless crossing that I like to go to. Only good for hi-railers. God bless!
will it ever get a real road?
Awesome Video Danny!
Why didn't they ever open that crossing?

Yes, that Conrail leading 453 is an authentic Conrail Dash-8. There were no Heritage units in 2009. :-))
Distant Signal thanks for the info. I've been wanting to catch a Conrail engine for a while now, but all i can catch is the Heritage unit.
+Distant Signal Sooo, if that's the case Danny, wouldn't it make sense to deactivate the crossing, and remove the gates. No need to have them activated if the road will never see an automobile, or person on foot to cross the line.
Back then it was still common to see Conrail engines, but after 2013 this is no longer the case and it is very hard to find one of these units
What happened to Tampa Trains by Land and Air? I went to watch it from my favorites and it said "Video Unavailable"
holy geez a conrail.. :) 5 stars... oh wait no morestars ok then 2 thumbs up :)
I think I have a man crush on you. LMAO! Don't tell my wife!
