Am I the only one who noticed he put the magnesium stick into the lite fire moving it around? Couldn't it catch on fire just like the shavings?
It would take a helluva fire in that state. I remember my auto tech teacher telling me they would put engine blocks from vw beetles in the fire to have a light show. They were partly made with magnesium.

This would seem like something that wouldn't entertain me, but it does.
That ax is good for cutting off the magnesium as long as you use the back part to shave it off. Never use the blade side of your knife or ax to start a fire with because you are dulling your tools. I love the water bottle from Wal-Mart and I would use it with my survival pack and it is compact too.

The water bottle is good. BTW, turns out a buddy lived in Raleigh for 6 years, and I didn't know it until he recognized NC on a CRH video. Very cool!

Dryer lint is an excellent fire starter and it's free. Gallon zip lock bags are great for water bags and they are very compact and cheap.
