It’s ridiculously rare to hear a channel like this mention earth system science.
It’s unfortunate that so many activists know little about the most recent scientific fields which systematically explore the relationships between the natural systems of the planet.

This is great, just as good as the last video ! Your skepticism towards power structures fueling your hope for humanistic solutions is what makes the channel's perspective stand out in a flood of culture-war tinged debunks, pick-and-choose philosophy, and political essentialism. It is, dare I say, academic foremost. Really the kind of standard social/science CZcams content should reach for.
Edit: If no one else, I also appreciated your shoutout to spinozist monism at the end of the last video. Real ones for sure.

@@deanmccrorie3461 "typically always Indigenous people" I didn't say always. Plus my statement still stands. Very few countries actually consider the Earth as a living being, and deserving of rights like humans.
Secondly I'm speaking about the western hemisphere specifically, (hence the western hemisphere earth emoji)
And these religions also have roots in Indigenous culture.
In America (North and South), Indigenous people are always fighting against the state and corporations in the justice system and physically. Pretty sure this statement will apply to people in other regions, such as Indigenous people in Australia.

@@deanmccrorie3461 They said typically, it's not to say all indigenous people care for the planet and humanity in this way either, besides they didn't pity anyone just pointed out that the majority of people who care about the planet are minorities who can not really do anything about it.
To me (I don't want to put words in their mouth) his point might also suggest that people in industrialised countries have become blind to the unsuccessful struggle for the wrong goals when compared indigenous people due to a weirdly normalised greed for money and self gain or a desire that these things are crucial or normal for humanity and themselves.
Personally im all for expansion but only in the pursuit of adventure, better wellbeing, sustainability and intellect for our species and as individuals, but it should be done carefully with genuine sustainability with human and environmental concern in mind.
One of the major flaws of most political ideologies is the greed of humans whether it be prejudice, lack of motivation to progress or selfishness regarding others and future generations, things that don't tend to occur as much in indigenous tribes so why can't their lifestyles be built upon in a larger worldwide scale where we share don't treat poorer folk like babies and as lesser but make genuine kind strifes to improve their lives, I'm not saying return to monke but to use our technologies and possesions collaboratively and communicate our successes and failures.

23:10 slight nitpick : in aviation and many other fields of engineering there is a concept known as redundancy , according to wich putting as many fail safe on somenthing will decrease the possibilities of this device to fail ,
it's the reason why fly by wire systems have 3-5 computers that could fly the whole thing by themselves alone , because when they fail the other 2-4 computers will vote against them , and keep the plane level ,
so the only situation in wich a fly by wire system fails is in the apocaliptic scenario in wich 2-3 computers make the same mistake and that passes , wich is low ...
but yeah in general ecosystems can be interpreted as machines , biomachines , and it also explains why islands are so frail

The debate about how to view the relationship between the Earth and humans is one that comes up a lot in Gundam and an especially important point is that space colonization is not some amazing solution because the Earth is simply so much more habitable, the point isn't that space colonization is bad but simply that it won't solve the issues on Earth on it's own. The view that generally wins out in Gundam is that the Earth and it's biosphere is in some way sacred and that humans must carefully protect it because it's the only place in the universe with life and is a sort of garden of eden in a universe that is otherwise incredibly hostile to human life. Also that we need to work together as an entire humanity to do this.

"a lesson of humility on a mythological scale". Well said. I think my favorite part was the implication that, whether the Ayn Rand fans like it or not, we''ll probably adapt to a less stable world by becoming more community-oriented (communal? communised?) and less individualist _because we are fundamentally social animals_. I found that reassuring, because I feel like the Mad Max future is the one that was coming and it would be miserable.
I laughed out loud several times (hora hora! butt plug easter egg!) and I like that you combine real depth with humour. Overall I feel.. better after watching this, so thank you.

This is some next level existential-dread-trigger type of content! Jokes aside (and in every joke, there is a little bit of joke!:'D), I am so happy that I've stumbled upon creators that are not from the first world countries. I love diversifying my sources and beating stupid YT algorithms.
Cannot wait for your next video. Keep on rocking S&P!

    Haha, I'm like the scriptwriter.
I read every single comment in the comment section. I like almost every comment as I read them as a way to keep track, and I think it shows that I listen.
I think the comment section is a tool for understanding the whole video: sometimes it's as important & useful as watching the video a second time.

Another amazing video! I have one question though; you repeat that our current economic system is 'unstable' and therefore cannot support indefinite growth while remaining environmentally friendly, which is something I generally agree with. That being said, I'm curious why you think the current system is unstable? Thanks!

    • @jakubnowacki231
      @jakubnowacki231 Pƙed 2 lety +13

Well, it's mostly because the current economics require growth, no matter the cost of the growth, however, the economy is not detached from reality and can not grow without raw materials, electricity, and work done by a man. The economy can only grow within the earth's boundaries, that's why we simply can't face the Anthropocene without changing our meaning of the economy.

Here (czcams.com/video/y0mpWL4zw6E/video.html) is another climate video that has a focus on growth’s instability, especially with regards to “green growth.” TL;DW, growth as *the* driving factor of current-society means that no amount of pollution-reducing or more efficient energy will reduce emissions and resource extraction (thus pollution) in the long term, because never ending growth eventually results in reaching a point where the negative impact become as bad as they were beforehand (because growth requires energy).
