Neil deGrasse Tyson discusses the history of the refrigerator and how the ozone was being eaten away by CFC molecules. What fascinated you most about this video?
@National Geographic Where can i buy it ?
When will this be available on disney plus
that DuPont is again involved in major health issues
Climate change pandemic 😂
Awesome way of explanation...👌. and the fact that every comfort comes along with its own disadvantages...
"You set out to solve one problem and you happen on a completely, unexpected phenomena"
Truer words have never been spoken.
Nice moustache
Your domain includes natgeo too
And that's exactly why we can;t innovate our way out of trouble. Every solution will create new problems, and the number problems are finite. By implication, so are the solutions. Sustainability is a myth.
I wish this video was longer because there is a lot more to tell.
Well, that will make you loose your interested when this aired
It's only about a five and a half minute video. This video can be about 18 minutes, which is the length of a TED talk.
Watch entire episode of cosmos
This is just a small part of the full episode of cosmos which is about 45 minutes.
I can't, I don't have nat geo
I love "Cosmos," and the way it uses different styles of animation together.
Thankfully science saved us from the Ozone hole and can save us from global warming too. Thanks Dr. Tyson and National Geographic.
science can glue together the pieces what we broke but if we brake the same spot over and over you cannot finish the rest
Quantum Droid well said
Jack Bongo true, 100% agree, and if we don’t act on issues such as global warming, it will lead to our demise. It’s selfishness, yes it’s human nature but as long as we are about our own happiness, we won’t make it to end of this century if we don’t listen to the scientist and the issues there addressing. It’s nice to have these things like steak and phones, but we also we need to at the same time, not destroy our planet.
Jack Bongo
Agree cheers from America 👍🏼
@@SammyxSweetheart.02 the problem with nuclear energy is it needs to be maintained closely and could cause a Cheryl-noble type event. It can be good but solar, wind, hydro, geo-thermal are better, I like nuclear energy but it not should be the only source.
Mario Molina!! He was one of my childhood heroes, I'm glad this new season of cosmos gave life sciences and geologists a more central role :') great job Anne Druyan and Neil de Grasse Tyson 👏
They should make Cosmos compulsory to watch in classrooms!
Totally agree.....really wished that.
And in parliaments.
NO they absolutely should not! It has great information then they throw in a bunch of pseudoscience and unprovable claims such as "microscopic life movingly embrace one another" Neil is NOT a scientist!
@@leftistfactchecker7672 bruh, neil is a scientist, he has phd and he is astrophysicist

Even though I am frm mechanical engineering background. I know how refrigerators and air-conditionier works. But the beautiful part in video is the history you covered with science and engineering !! I never know CFC is human engineered one. ❤️ National Geographic. Where can I get full video
Disney Hotstar plus
Best step to open the eyes of mankind please bring more that gives explanation of things around us instead of fictional hero movies
The most interesting thing was a negative point that Ozone is being harmed by us . But thanks to the National Geographic team for this brilliant video . It made people know what harm the small things like spray cans can cause .
In my first apartment, stored in the basement of the building, was an old wooden ice box. It had a metal pan in the bottom that had a drainpipe and tap for the water that came from the melting ice. It seemed well made and appeared to still be functional, but the World had changed and refrigeration reduced the labor required to keep ones food cold and that is presumably what caused this piece to be relegated to the basement.
Thanks so much, Nat Geo.. For this great docu... Stay safe everyone...
Appreciate the support! Stay curious.
Just loved it hope to more videos in this format

Very good , congratulations Natgeo
I love these Cosmos shows. Neil deGrasse Tyson is such a good narrator with a smooth flow which makes him very easy to listen to.
No hes not. Hes hard to look at and listen to.
Please add reference to Montreal protocol and current status of ozone layer. Thanks for excellent video.
Superb episode...👍👍👍
Mr. Neil de grysse is indeed one of the most negotiable story tellers
This video definitely sparks the interest 💜✨👀
Fantastic video
Oh my g! I had no idea!.. it seems everything human kind makes is just hurting the earth... Even if it's no meant to..
And the thing that humanity is creating that is most harmful is to many other humans. So if you want to make an impact that is best course of action, pull out.

We now use safer refrigerants, and in the US we are going to start using hydrocarbons (propane and butane). Very safe for the environment but.... A little volitile... Pretty sure they're already in use in Europe.
But they are causing global warming
Awesome
when am I going to able to stream the episodes online and on what platform?
This show needs to be recognized by the library of Congress ✍️✍️
When I learned about this as a child at the turn of the millennium, there were no exoplanets, no hint of other worlds to escape. There was no other option but to save the world that we have.
I like national geographic 😍😍

Just think about the things we take for granted today. Nice animation btw🤗
Still waiting to be able to purchase the full season on Amazon/Google Play :/
This video is even more interesting in animation.....the animation are very cool
Any one knows the classical melody in 3:04? I would appreciate it because i am struggling to find...
Nowadays we use HFCs which are safer as compare to CFCs.
Make this the most subscribed channel on youtube with zero videos
Thanks all country who come together to make an agreement regarding no use of CFCs and to save ozone for us
pls bring season 3
how heavy are chlorine molecules? do they settle and float down?
Question : from which place did they get the ice blocks and were these blocks still ice without melting after travelling for a long time in the desert ?
Why does the thinning only happens near the poles?
i wonder why dupont is not held accountable for stripping the ozone layer? they certainly benefited the most from cfcs.
I think the humans that didn't have to deal with pools of water or poison gas leaks, were the ones that benefited most from this.
And then they all died.
The end.
S'il vous plait donner nous souvent la version française
Is this cosmos ver.2?
Find an alternate for CFC will be very difficult .it seems like almost impossible.😞
When the weather is hot, ice is very nice! 😉
Add sub titels also please in the video
Is this come after coenzoic?

Cool animation
Reminds me of the verse:
And when it is said to them, "Do not cause corruption on the earth," they say, "We are but reformers." Unquestionably, it is they who are the corrupters, but they perceive [it] not. (Quran 2: 11-12)
They thought they are creating good things while in fact they are destroying the earth.
Wow! That's a very different perspective to look at this verse from; quite different from the context it was revealed in. Doesn't it talk about the disbelievers?
@@kanwalmemon8672 Yes. It's amazing how the verse accurately describes how human perceive their actions and what their actions actually do to the planet.
Good luck for you if you aren't using refrigerator
@@wisdomkyando5165 fridges manufactured after 1995 commonly no longer use CFC.
RIP Mario Molina. The world has an enormous debt with him.
Ya, nobody ever talks about the effect of rocket exhaust on our environment. I asked NASA once about this. They cut out all further communication with me.
Yea, what about the hole in the ozone over the north pole?
It's healed vry recently
I saw Sherwood Rowland speak once and he had slides from newspaper cartoons that the industry helped coordinate to make him look like a nut. Sound familiar?
And now waste food after keep them in the freezer for one month.
Can we watch cosmos : possible worlds in hindi language?
Neil is a good narrator
👎
DO NOT bother the cat.
I am willing to bet that if we didn't discover CFCs as harmful to the ozone in time to save the ozone, we probably would have found a way to shield the earth from UV radiation by some artificial means. Humans are very inventive and creative. I will take the Ozone over something alternative any day, but I trust in humanity's adaptability and ingenuity.
We aren't that advanced yet. Plus whatever we have achieved is pretty fragile, as current times show us.
I just watched the 3M Dupont documentary on Netflix yesterday. Ugh
Christy Mccullough good for you
So how about mars can wait. Save this planet first
Is our ozone layer healing up? Since this virus started?
it recovered since we stopped with cfcs... the ozone is created naturally in the atmosphere oxygen contact with cosmic rays

"Everything has good and bad effects"
That's called the tree of knowledge of good and evil. But people walk around with knowledge and no life.. which is more important? Tree of life, or knowledge?
John 3:16
Life is a gift, Jesus Christ is life eternal
@Nicholas Olesen science has become a religion. There is deeper meanings beyond the natural, until you understand that you think only of the temporal things, Jesus is eternal, when you look at Him you see eternity.
John 3:16
Some people actually do appreciate what I'm saying so don't lie.
@Nicholas Olesen the universe has a beginning making it limited to time and space. God who is out of eternity is constantly reaching out to His creation. I'm not a debater but a herald of another kingdom not of this world or galaxy.. The good news of hope, rather than the hopeless news of an end. For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life. I understand but Pan is a devil, and He bows to Jesus. And ALL belongs to God..
@@criminaltotheworld3154 I understand your views, but this is a Science channel, more logical than religion
