"worst, best game ever" this is the best explanation of EDF ever
it took me 4 years to get all achievements to the one on edf 2017. I hate this game. When is the next one coming out? These are amazing.
People who say this nonsense are so goddamn insecure. American created some of the best monster movies out there (we wouldn't even have Godzilla without The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms), and now people in the same country act like you're only allowed to enjoy that stuff with a huge layer of "yes, I know it's objectively garbage, BUT I'm only enjoying it to laugh at how stupid it is and NOT because monsters are cool" condescension. God Hand also has silly self-parodying execution, but that doesn't mean it thinks its influences old martial arts films, Fist of the North Star, whatever, are all bad. Similarly it's obvious the EDF devs fucking love stuff like Godzilla and the old War of the Worlds film that so much of the alien technology is clearly inspired by. Only modern post-MST3K Americans need to apologize for liking that stuff and pretend it's not earnestly fun.
In reality, this game is just good.

Basically a team of up to four Sly Marbos.
Honestly if someone made a mod or got the license to make a 40k game I can see fencer being the #1 class Speuce Muarine

Some call EDF, the Imperial Guard Simulator. I think that is a bad analogy.
The Imperial guard would die in greater droves than the EDF, and the EDF have a greater technological disadvantage. Calling it a "hero unit imperial guard simulator" might be a better analogy. I mean how many imperial guards shoot down space ships with a lasrifle?

What people need to know, is that the weapons (at least in previous games) were insane. Once you completed the game once (this is the type of game you run MULTIPLE times through, for fresh insane loot each time), you start getting some truly insane weapons. How about a handheld Tactical Nuke MLRS? Or a Gatling Gun firing explosive nuke-tipped shells?
Also, this makes me want a Warhammer 40k game with Imperial Guard / Space Marines vs Orks and Tyranids.
2017 and Insect Armageddon had the most extreme examples, with the Genocide Gun and Pesticide Guns respectively. The latter caused massive explosions that flattened several in-game city blocks and killed just about any enemy with a single shot. The former could kill just about anything too, but instead of an explosion that blew up several city blocks, this thing lit the entire horizon up.

Fun fact for those who didn't watch the stream: Shack picke stuff that only worked outdoors, when they would only be fighting indoors ;)
And when fighting Erginus, he picked attacks that relied on credits, obtained by killing stuff which is in short supply on that level, instead of having a timed reload such as the gunship attacks. This meant he'd have to rely on the NPC's entirely to damage it, though thankfully the game does give you a lot of them in this level.

Fencer is the fastest class in the game, by chaining boosts and blast spear combos you can fly around like a gundam raining hell onto the battlefield

I heard they removed that from 5. But i never played with any fencers in 5, so take it with a grain of salt.
I know this is late, but for the benefit of anyone reading this convo now, the Fencer in 5 is still the fastest class in the game, by quite a margin, it's just that the dash-cancel has been replaced with dash-jumping. If anything, this has made Fencers *faster*, and certainly deadlier since you can actually aim and shoot while chaining dash jumps. Though you can only chain them with support equipment. Also, with high level support equipment you can practically fly. But because it's the Fencer, this is all very unwieldy and kinda difficult to get used to and good at, that's the class tagline after all. "Veteran players only".

I remember playing fencer solo for a while and never being able to use it but one day I convinced my friend to get the game and I will never forget the moment that I locked on and watched a missile bigger than me ascend to space, only to come back down and decimate the entire population of easy-mode ants.
This can hold me over until the Gantz game we all need comes out

Definitely, so many gamers are totally oblivious to how good this game is when you start getting above level 30 weapons and it's hands down one of the most fun multiplayer games I swear.

I thought the heavy lancer was most maneuverable out of all the classes since you can time the jumps up and forward together to get a full street langth bound.
I love almost all of the changes they made to EDF 5. One change I don't like is the song. I really do prefer the one in 4.1. I hope someone makes a simple mod that adds it back in.
EDF needs to be more well known, it's really good and you can have some really epic moments, like ending up the only surviver in a situation you should die in yet fight your way out, or take out an insane amount of enemies in one go

Please note that the weapon list is just as extensive as in previous games, and that the new upgrade system only supplements it, rather than replacing it. The upgrade system is mostly positive with a comparatively minor negative. It is entirely possible to have a weapon that, while lower level, is more effective than a weapon found later. This potentially takes away from fun finding a new weapon, at least until you realize that that new weapon still has a higher ceiling. The upsides are that this only happens with very bad luck on drops, since it takes quite a few upgrades to get this result, and that your character actually still becomes more powerful despite RNG not playing nice.
I'll add a bit more to your comments on the weapon list. It seems like they may have shortened the weapon list only a little bit, because you still get A, B, and C versions of weapons, you just get to upgrade them. This does have the unfortunate downside of you often getting a B version of a weapon that is weaker than the A version you currently have, due to it being upgraded. The B version will be vastly superior once you upgrade it of course, but that just means you got to grind for duplicates. I kinda like this change. They managed to lower the frequency of weapon unlocks, while increasing the incentive to have you go back and replay levels to get better weapon. I've often found myself stopping mid game and replaying a level over and over to upgrade a new weapon, before moving on with the game.TBH, I'm overjoyed with the changes to the fencer class, and I wish you had gone into more detail. They removed the shield cancel dash, and instead give you pieces of equipment that give you more consecutive dashes and jumps. I got one now that gives me three dashes and another one that gives three jumps. The fencer is far more versatile now. being able to jump down from a building into a group of enemies with hand gatlings in full spin is a blast!
Oh yeah, that needs extra detail and footage in a review. Fencers were actually very fast with the cancel dash.
You can also chain a dash into a blast spear attack & repeat that, useful early on when jump & dash support equips aren't that great yet (and with that I mean plentiful goodness twirling you through the skies) xD
The fencer overwhelmed by enemies!?!? Think you need to put more time into that class... Suggest having two configs, one must be CC with a melee and some sort of gun and the other can be pretty much whatever you might like for range.
The imperial guard has a battle chant now, that's neat.
To sum up all the classes in a few words
Ranger: may not have the fanciest kit but will carry your team to end game with a assault rifle and rocket launcher
Air Raider: Overkill? What a stupid idea
Wing Diver: The ground is lava and you are all dead
Fencer: Float like a butterfly, hit like a main battle tank
I think of the Fencer more as a bumblebee. He's trying Really Hard, and it's working, but it's not exactly graceful.
@@CaelonGmail You might want to rethink your definition of graceful if you think that animation canceling across the map while destroying your ears with a goddamn artillery cannon isn't the most beautiful thing you've ever seen.

The Fencer is truely terrifying once fully upgrade, the ability to fly across the battle field while laying waste with the firepower of an army is a sight to behold

i bough a old edf on xbox 360 at a book store when i was younger and it was honestestly amazing and really weird. I didn't understand anything i just played the same mission over and over. i want another edf to see if i still like it, this is a nice vid, thx

I never got into this series. I played an E.D.F. on the SNES a side scrolling space shooter, where you had a shuttle looking fighter with two escorting drones. I loved that one and the ground combat version never interested me as much.
@thexpgamers I picked it up as soon as i was able to on 7/12. I finally completed the offline campaign on normal with total time played of 29h 57m 47s thats with failing missions 14 times overall and restarting with different kit 10 times other than those failures. I do have to say this does feel like the best so far for EDF some of the changes I do not like like the air raider losing some vehicles like the railgun to the soldier but overall it feels really good. I plan to watch you play on twitch if im able to or at the very least watch the vods.

you forgot one of the most important mechanics of air raider, some weapons "reload" through your team earning points and knowing that can be the difference between winning and losing, otherwise, great video

@@ZZMonkeysUncleZZ Not sure about that, dash cancelling was one hell of a drug because it had less downtime than the WD jets. However, it caused massive hand pains.
Depends how far into the game you are, by end-game it sure is the fastest by quite a substantial bit.

Eath defense force was actually released on the SNES btw. It was a side sliding spaceship shooter.
if I were to blur my vision, splatter some blood, add more screams, then I see a cross mix of starship troopers and the imperial guards but I stopped at the half naked jet pack lady and soldiers still willing to sing after getting their shit rocked
Insect Armageddon is a more... western take on the series. Lest sophisticated as its an older game.
Hell of a lot cheaper though.

Can you still do the old Fencer javelin dash cancelling so you can become one speedy boi?
No, but you can combine the forward boost with the boost jump to essentially fly, especially once you get equipment that lets you boost multiple times before needing to cool off. This means you aren't forced to use a shield/javelin for cancelling.

As a long standing fan having first played the games with insect armageddon I love this series and agree I love the air raider but it great for multiplayer especially with fencer

In the hands of new player
-wing driver and air raider (in non mech vehicles) : fastest
-ranger because sprint
-fencer (if basic understanding of dash)
-Air raider roll
-Fencer with no dashes : slowest
At least that is my experience
But if a fencer is full equipped with dashes and has 100% mastered then nobody can out due fencers yeeting themselves everywhere
