That day in the school yard my friend was telling me all about the legendary game 'World of Warcraft'. He was describing its various races, the Dwarves, the Gnomes, the Tauren, the Orcs. For some reason he hit a cord in me when he said you can start your adventure off as Dwarf with a musket.
The more and more he talked, the more and more I was interested in this mysterious, yet well known game. I had only heard of how 'nerdy' it was, as they so depict it in popular media.
That night when I got home, I started the download of the game, and begun the free trial (however long it lasted in those days). After hours of waiting, It was finally done and I logged into this strange world. I was met with a server selection, a vast sea of letters, red, orange and green. Words I did not understand and letters that made no sense. I called my friends house, and asked for him (there was no texting at the time and the only form of messaging him through social media was through MSN, and he wasn't online.)
Finally when I was talking to him I asked him what to do on the screen, and he told me to make a character on the realm he was on, the Roleplaying server of 'Wyrmrest Accord' a server made for new players at the time.
When met with the character creation screen, I was amazed at the options before me, I could play as a mighty green skin, and slash my enemies to pieces. Or I could play a human 'mage' and throw balls of fire.
But for some reason, this short, bearded man with a musket drew my attention like you could never believe. I made his hair jet black, and his skin pale white like the snowy land of his home. Having been a fan of LOTR I tried to name him Gimli, at the time I spelt it 'Gimly', but alas it was taken. So I conjured up the name Gubly, and I logged in for the very first time.
Que 2:00. A great white world was before me, stranger Dwarves, looking much like myself were running around, firing off their loud rifles. Gnomes of various colours waddled under foot.
I instantly took foot, not knowing what a quest was or having any care to learn. I shot at what I wanted and as much as I wanted and soon my character exploded in vibrant gold colours, I had leveled up for the very first time.
The bottom corner of my screen was flashing pink, accompanied by a tinking noise, and I soon came to realize my friend was messaging me. We eventually met up at the Wendigo cave, and we camped there for hours, firing at the damned beasts until it was no challenge at all.
Gubly and Aermoss had many adventures from that point on. I can still remember leaving the other end of the Deeprun Tram and seeing a city with a visible sky! I was baffled at the sheer size of the world before me!
Hours, Days, Years have past, and now I sit ontop of an account with 4+ lvl 100s. Gubly has been race changed so many times, I forget he was my pride and joy once. The game has become numbers for me, numbers and expectations. There is no spirit for me, no mystery, no wonder. But that time we had, shall have an impact on my life longer than anything else I have yet lived through.
(( I wanted to write more but I doubt anybody has read this far, also I am tearing up wayyy too much.))

Wubchok yeah, that feeling of a new adventure is absolutely wonderful. The misteries of Undercity, the relaxing music of Mulgore, the raids, that friendship feeling that u get in those long stances from Vanilla... Oh, and how epic it was to go PVP with your friends!
I remember when my real life friends were with me in arathi, we had just killed the giant and we were just sitting around a bonfire while talking about nothing important...
      Good ol' times, m8 :')

Wubchok Yup, that´s how I feel aswell although I had an undead priest, coming from the WC3 game which are just as awesome, I roleplayed on as the survivor of Tirisfal Glades. So when Arthas disappeared from the game, I no longer felt like I belonged there and with the new expansions the population is dropping. Every good party has to die sometime, I just wished that this one didn´t. It´s one of the most if I may say so, close to magical experience I ever had with a game. Logging on today is something entirely but those days were one of the best, and I know there will never be anything like it.

Ahri man Going to be late and waking up early to do something in the world, and back then it actually felt like you were doing something, like you were going on a magnificent quest across the world of Azeroth, and the people you met would stick with you for the rest of your days, going on more adventures than you could ever dream of. But no, those days are done, the people have gone, and the quests have become calculated outcomes.

One night, when taking a flight path to a destination I don't remember, I passed over Dun Morogh at night and those beautiful piano notes started to play as I looked down to the virtual world below, seeing no one, only the snow illuminated by blue light and the moon. It was such a simple moment, yet so incredible.

I think all of us here created an emotional bond to their music and beautiful speechless scenery, knowing that in the end of the day you could just log in and feel at home and safe.. oh gosh i miss it. However a reality check eventually hits us, and it makes us realize that this unrealistic world of characters and friends is not real, and then we stop playing, but forever have our memories and stories lingering in our subconscious as real emotions. Long Live World of Warcraft and their amazing team for creating such an amazing piece of work

Vilix Kazzak Although, I wouldn't go as far as saying that the "Unrealistic world of Characters and Friends aren't real."
Friends are probably one of the strongest bonds that I could create through this game. And if anything, it is not "Fake".
I love this game with a passion, still do. And this world has become a part of my life. Not the opposite hehe.

A cousin and I found a tree next to a Path in Loch Modan, way back when you couldn't fly anywhere except Outland. If you went behind this tree and jumped well enough towards the mountain, you would actually get on the wall and be able to climb the mountain. You could then follow the path through those unattainable mountains in the Burning Steppes, all the way to the very top of Ironforge. You could visit the tiny airport behind the peak, and see trappers sledding down the peak. We were the only people we ever knew, or saw, who knew this. This music kicking in when you finally reach Ironforge, it's burned into my memory.
Needless to say I was kind of disappointed when you could finally fly in Azeroth. No more exclusive path or knowledge necessary.

I haven't played since Warlords was released but revisiting the music is always a joy. Someone once said that this wasn't a game they once played but rather a place they once visited. That still resonates with me. The detail of the zones, the immersion that the music brings. It felt almost real. I miss it.

I'll always remember bringing my level 6 dwarf paladin for the first time into Kharanos talking to all the different class trainers to see their different dialogues, going into the forge if i remember correctly and looking at the armor on NPCs... I'd ask myself "how did they get that? Man i wish I could at least wear shoulderpads". And the inn, ahhh the inn. So peacefull. Nothing like coming inside a safe place and resting before a warm hearth with soft soothing music in the background after hours of farming in the snow. I get onto my family’s pc to see the game fully installed, ready to play. i launch, log in and go to the character screen. i had made so many characters to see what was my favorite, but dwarf felt so right. it might have been because it was snowy outside and the very room I stood in was extremely cold, or the mix of the melancholic music with the cold atmosphere in my home as well as the snow topped world of Dun Morogh. either way, i was hooked; and there was no way this game was letting me go any time soon.

This reminds me of my little hunter. A female dwarf, ugly as all get out, named something horrible I can't remember now. I tamed that rare white bear (Bjarn was his name, I had to look it up lol). I loved that bear. /sigh I miss that bear.

Ok sure ive only just started in MoP and my friend has told me what is 'around every corner', but that doesnt change the fact that i have had the same reaction as everyone else. My first character was a gnome frost mage(i still have the lvl 20), and as soon as i had been through the introduction of the gnomes and what they stand for i was thrown into this city overrun by leper gnomes... for those first 20mins alone, before my friend found me, i was at complete peace running around Dun Morogh. :)

It's weird in a sense that this ost is nostalgic, I mean it was 10 years ago, 2005. It doesn't feel too old but then you realize you were 12 years old as well. The days, Blizzard knew how to make you feel at home. They still do but 1998-2005 were the golden era I think...

First ever character was a tauren warrior but I stopped playing it within 5 minutes because buzzards killed me. So it doesn't count. The first real character I ever played was my dwarf hunter. Man, it was awesome. Was a noob back then. Didn't know what a talent tree was or that I had one until level 30.

man my first charac was a tauren warrior, 2 friends talked to me about WoW, i built him up to lvl 8-9 then i rerolled nightelf to join one of these friends, the other was a tauren on Arak-Arahm. so much memories. 5 years after i reconnected to this character i still did not delete (the tauren lvl 8, and i played on private servers a lot). He was still there, waitin for me in the same place i left him 5 years ago in vanilla.

You we're supposed to kill trolls in a cave around lvl 8. I died and I died and I died and I died but it didnt matter cause it was so fun. I sure miss those times ='(

I know what you mean I've been long gone from WoW since 2010. I remember starting when the game came out in 2004, at the time I didn't know what I was really getting myself into. I almost quit the game right then and there UNTIL another rogue came up and said "hey want to help me with this quest and I'll help you with yours. To be honest I'm glad i said the hell with it and went along with him. We still talk to this day, I can say I have a bestfriend in New Zealand.

Now everyone doesnt really talk to you or help like they used to, everyone knows the game and just does it themselves, I remember there was a Rare spawn back when rare spawns were "Rare" . it was a bear named Iceclaw i believe. Me and the group of friends tried to kill it for the longest time kept dieing it was a pain but it was probably the most fun laughing and having fun, Cant go back
