- Nintendo has now shutdown the Wii U & 3DS servers for online play, but right as it was happening a surprise announcement was made. Sony could be sizing up an old franchise for a return based on a recently discovered listing.

Good time to remind people that the pokemon bank and transfer apps still work on the 3DS, if you want to bring them into home better start doing so, they've been vague on how long that service will stay up.
Shame my Switch is broken and doesn't connect to the internet or my controllers wirelessly :(

Sad to see the 3DS/Wii U online servers gone for good. Maybe someday I’ll look into modding my 3DS so I can use Pretendo’s servers to play online again. But for right now, it’s the end of an era.
I love my homebrew new 3ds xl ❤ the 3d thing is mind blowing 😊 makes the picture look even better and immersive.
Why not mod the 3DS? Like there are legitimately so many benefits to softmodding it. You don't need a whole lot of time or skill, it's at best a 30 minute procedure and it's all just fiddling with digital files, no hardmodding required. After that, you can install now unavailable games, homebrew apps, Pretendo, themes, browse files directly from your 3DS, watch feature films on your 3DS, create your own Virtual Console titles, use emulators, etc. etc. all for the low, low price of free. At this point your making yourself suffer for literally no reason, it's not like softmods change the hardware or OS, the system still looks 1st party. I'd also do the same with the Wii U, though I don't own one and have no intentions of ever owning one, and absolutely mod the original Wii if you have one that is probably the best console to mod to date.

Nintendo ended the service at 1am in my timezone.
As I was in the lobby, I could still play a loooooong time before my ISP's MODEMs auto-reconnect kicked in which is every 24h.
Played Splatoon 1 Ranked until 3:30am and it was a blast.
I am also on Pretendo for a while now but I wanted to take the experience of those final moments of the official servers with me.
I was happily surprised when the “Final Rotation” ended and Callie & Marie popped up for one last news update. Played Urchin Underpass to death.

Spider-Man 2 was bundled like crazy with PS5 consoles too, something that you forgot to mention, so the fact that Helldivers 2 is outpacing it despite of that is really impressive

Persona 6 is going to be an absolutely massive release for Atlus. I think it says a lot that a tweet saying what color scheme the game will have got 10s of thousands of likes in a matter of just a few hours.

Should be - they stick to their guns pretty hard. Granted, from a story perspective, I didn’t like that they removed pieces of P3 from Reload. The Female protagonist and some interactions were seen as not fitting for the modern day (which is absurd). Hopefully they tell the story they want without influence from the outside.
My dream game has always been a Persona game with the open world aspects and mini games from the Yakuza franchise. For example in Persona 4 Golden when going to daily soccer practice they will show you cutscenes, instead you would have a full soccer mini game in there, where you play games against other schools. Same way in Persona 3 Reload when you do Karaoke it is just a cutscene instead it would be cool to have full-blown karaoke mini game

As a huge fan of SOCOM 1&2 Sony's biggest challenge with a new one would be trying to modernize the game while not completely alienating the SOCOM fanbase that still exists. This is the issue they ran into with SOCOM 4, where they attempted to modernize the formula for a new audience that didn't care about SOCOM, and letdown the fanbase in the process - resulting in a game that didn't appeal to anyone. If Sony just gives us a SOCOM 2 remaster before the new one hits then everyone can be happy.

@@randubs1206 CoD and SOCOM are so completely different. I played CoD too (and Halo), as did many of my SOCOM friends, but it didn’t at all fill the void that SOCOM left. We’d all come back for a real SOCOM, or at least a remaster of 2.
The SOCOM fan base from the originals is so small it wouldn’t matter if you alienated them. They should just focus on making a great game for modern gamers with more mass appeal to grow the franchise.
Problem with a remaster would be that the controlles are so outdated. Not sure it would help, might turn people even away from buying a new one. I played Socom 2 again in 2023 and as much as I loved that game back on ps2, the controlles really don't hold up anymore
I still pray to the video game gods for a Resistance remake or reboot. I loved those games on ps3.

I would actually rather play smaller $40 games that are fun that aren't 20 hours long with graphics that the ps5 can barely run. Just make a decent looking fun game and sell it for $40

Loved Socom 2. Funny enough my first game for PS1 was Syphon Fliter and I loved that game and now feel that it was ahead of its time, same with Socom 2. I loved the ability to customize loadouts for me and the team, run with different spec ops, make calls on the field like overwatch, and the multiple ways to complete missions. I am hoping they keep the third person view.
I always felt like Rainbow Six was superior in those features and did it first. Was never a fan of the series but with Microsoft’s future hold on CoD, Sony needs something; so I’m all for it.

My dad bought pitfall harry for ps2 at walmart for 10 cents like 20 years ago, it still remains as one of his greatest moments.
SOCOM would be nice to bring back but my heart still cries out for a new Killzone game. Shit, I'd even settle for a remastered collection of the first three games.

As someone who just played SOCCOM 2 just the other day on my PS2 , I can say the controls don't need any changes, but the computer A.I. teammates could use some buffs as they are fairly useless in single-player . A remaster of this title would be fantastic to see .

Never played SOCOM online but I played one of its PSP games back then. Honestly make a COD without the MTX hell and that alone would be worth trying.
Imo Sony should buy Blacklight Retribution and give it a fresh coat of paint because its a great unique game that only lives on PS now, it was titanfall before titanfall and its customization still IMO beats other fps games.
Blacklight was a f2p shooter that had nothing to do with ps now, besides maybe hardcore fans of that game I'm pretty sure it's a mostly dead game that's still available to download
@@Darklord_tK I meant its now only on PS, specifically its store as the PC version is gone. Its a game not many know of in general but like Helldivers which didnt have a big fanbase either, a fresh coat of paint and pure simple fun can do wonders, the potential is there. Do the refresh right, bringing it back to PC like Helldivers 2 did and you can definitely make a lot of people annoyed with other fps games move over.
Socom Combined Assault was my first and only game played in that franchise and it was my jam, p.s it's really good, one of the best things about it was the intro.

Amazon is weird and crap sometimes. I've not had them cancel a game that I've ordered, but they have cancelled orders I've placed in the past because they decided they weren't charging enough money for those items.
I also placed an order through them that hadn't shipped for nearly 3 months until I found out the order went through on my account, but not at Amazon themselves. They had stock of the item, but their response was to tell me to cancel the order I'd placed and buy it again, even though the item had nearly doubled in price since.

I find it interesting that the original MediEvil is going to be released. One of the coolest things about the remake is that, once you collect the soul collectibles in the remake, you get the ability to play the original. It was a nice surprise, and I wish more remakes did that.
Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2, Starcraft and Warcraft were my introduction to PC games and RTS.
SOCOM sounds like the beginning of a deez nuts joke
the first 2 socom games were basically a third person version of counter strike in that every game mode was round based and you couldn't respawn once you died you had to wait for the next round to start and once you died you couldn't talk to the people that were a live but with party chat and discord that is one part that would be hard to pull off.
You can see what Pitfall would be like in 3D. I thinnk the last one released in 2009 on the Wii, although that was a port from the Gamecube/Xbox/PS2 version that came out in 2004.

I’d love to see a Chakan The Forever Man reboot where the potion mixing is close to stratagems and the combat is like Sekiro the map building of dark souls 3 and having specific weapons that can do specific color type damage to enemies where if you’re facing a boss with different color auras that can swap out different weapons mid fight to change with enemy color auras in a fast paced way to create unique combos.

Rebooting SOCOM with the vision of it being a semi-hardcore third person shooter (even an FPS take would be awesome) with an emphasis on squad-based tactics would be sick! Especially if they can make that work for both single and multiplayer!
We're long overdue for a new Jet Moto game! I remember it being a challenging yet fun experience back on the PSX.

People have been throwing out the idea that Persona 6 will have a green theme for a while now. I remember watching a video around the time og Persona 5 dropped where a guy stated his hope that it would be the first mainline Persona game to officially have a female protagonist and that he hoped the color would be green and that it would focus around different types of illnesses (mental, physical, etc). Would be wild if that turns out to be the direction it goes in all these years later though, even if only in part.
The Pitfall series could be awesome, just keep it 2D. The visuals could still be cutting edge.
There is a living community that still play Socom. Socom 2, 3, CA and Confrontation, on the PS3, are still played today on revived servers.
I hacked my Wii U with my friends hours before the service shut down so I could download all my NNID data (not 100% sure if it was necessary but I wanted to make sure). I then spent the rest of the time the servers were up playing Splatoon and I had an absolute blast, as my favorite weapon is only available in the first game. I've tried to connect to Pretendo since then but it doesn't seem like public matchmaking is working atm, or it might be me trying from Cemu rather than my Wii U. I'm not too worried though, I'm sure I'll figure it out.
Only the Scenario writer is left for Dragon Quest...It was always the three...Sugiyama, and Toriyama...
I could see some sort of release for DQXII materialising when the Switch 2 is announced.

Socom for Sony makes sense as there isn't much competition now from the modern franchises (compared to the older versions)
Double A games are definitely a good idea, we could also do with Double D games (yeah, I think that's a good way to describe them lol) in the cheaper end.
Less cost to make means better profits, provided you don't get greedy and charge AAA prices for a AA grade game.
Concerning Dragon Quest, I'm more worried they won't make another Dragon Quest Builders game... I LOVE those games, have hundreds of hours in both of them.
I hope the success of Helldivers II on the PC gives them faith in a solid multi platform Twisted Metal release. They may see new viability in an online multiplayer IP with wacky combat and characters/factions.
Socom II online was so goated. Man I hope they revive it well. Socom Confrontation on ps3 was just a multi-player only Socom that revamped all the maps from the first and second one.

Pretendo will probably be very active early on because the servers just shut down and it is getting a lot of attention. The next month it will be like 100 people on mario kart and splatoon will have like 50 on turf war and ranked will be dead.
3 is the one I'm in love now.
4 is the one I thought "not for me" for the longest time until I finally "got it" and loved it.
But 5 is the one that STOLE MY HEART and started it all for me. Yeah, the metaphor (ReFantazio?) goes beyond 5's narrative.

Xenoblade Chronicles X had unused online content go live hours before the shutdown. Some of the missions weren't even able to be completed due to not having an objective to complete.
I feel like any PS3/360 game has been re-released so much because companies wanted to make actual HD versions of their games that run better or so they could sell us them again. Persona 5, GTA5, Resident Evil 6, and The Last of Us, just to name the big name ones.

The only game Amazon flat out cancelled on me was Daemon Ex Machina. Its not uncommon for 1st party Nintendo games to have delayed shipping on there for me though. By comparison Prime 4 is still up. Bayo 3 was well but that came out at least.

I was one of the die-hard PSP Monster Hunter players, and the main reason I got the Wii was to play Monster Hunter Tri. If Pretendo allowed you to play Tri Ultimate and go online on the Wii U, I'd look into that. Loved that game.
Yet my Metroid Prime 4 pre-order is still in my open order history on Amazon.
Pitfall can come back as a 2D Metroidvania and I'd be perfectly fine.

But love News Wave, it's an easy way for me to keep up with gaming-news. Not everything is relevant for me but the chapters make it easy to skip stuff (as a non-playstion owner PSplus doesn't interest me for example).

As a child I played Pitfall the lost expedition on the GC and always found the humor charming. I can't believe It sold as bad as it did, even when re-releasing it for the wii. Saddly I can't picture them making any other pitfall anytime soon
This is why I never pre-order anything from Amazon. My Luigi's mansion 2 HD pre-order is still available via gamestop, and my Nintendo switch and Playstation 5 pre-orders for Disney Epic Mickey Rebrushed is still available. That is why I've trusted my local gamestop for 20 years.

A New Socom Game would be brilliant, 3-5hrs Single Player Campaign, Full on Online Multiplayer and at the same time on PC and Sony will be onto a Winner. I would like too see the Resistance making a Comeback, whether it's Remaster Collection, Remake, Reboot or a Sequel.
Helldivers 2 is doing way better than anyone thought it would do, including Sony themselves. The Price Tag makes it an attractive Pickup and on PC aswell as PS5 really helps also. Sony should but all their Multiplayer/Live Service Games on PC Day One.
The Dragon Quest Producer Stepping Down isn't good News but hopefully DQ12 will be Available on the PS6 at Launch.

Nintendo sold over a 1.2 billion units on Switch. Being a Steam Deck owner I’d love to see Nintendo games come to Steam. I’m just not sure how motivated Nintendo would be to do that since business is great and they pocket all the profit.

Andre Segers of GameXplain played Mario Kart 8 for awhile in a live-stream even after the online went away but then he checked once he completely got offline he didn't get to get back on so I think it was because I was still playing online and the WiiU didn't stop people from playing as long as they was still online.
happy to hear of a new socom game but not happy to hear it might be a live service game. Also didn't know there was new Dragon Quest in the works can't wait to see what its like.
