Portal 2 - Final boss fight + credits

- Subtitled for those who have difficulty understanding English, but are willing to learn ;)
In-game subtitles occupy a rather large portion of the screen, so I decided to make a decent subtitle.
The Turret Opera part is not subtitled yet, due to a lack of official lyrics.
Recorded with Fraps, only because a freaking texture issue in the game:
while recording a demo the Moon's texture disappears, leaving the Moon entirely black, plus there's a problem with the patch of conversion gel under Wheatley. - Hry
I love how GLaDOS is flexing by leaving the elevator doors open and showing you all the turrets she had prepared to execute you, but spares you anyway
I personally think that the little song they did was a final gift left by Caroline before she got deleted
@@iamtheroponian7731 good theory
Knowing Chell she would probablly just kick the turrets or something. It's pretty notorius that she's somehow inmortal just as Freeman.
Ok, so the real reason for the song is that it's cut content, iirc, you were supposed to marry a turret, with the blessings of King Turret, but it was cut from the game. Valve chose to keep it as a song tho

More likely valve did, so players won't come back.
If you know Greek mythology, then chell is presumably dead, because in Greek mythology heaven is a wheat field, and you are accompanied by your best friend (the companion cube) and when you ascend to heaven, you hear singing. The turrets sing, right? Meaning they shot you, and sang to you as you went to heaven
I just love how glados's voice is much more emotional and human before she deletes caroline as compared to how cold and robotic it is after
She didnt actually delete her, if you listen she never actually fully finished the delete process
@Royal Enigma How
Royal Enigma yea may I ask what do you mean :o like what part did you see that she didn’t delete Caroline completely, as I can only see “Caroline Deleted” as the only line referring to that
it's implied in the ending song- which glados allegedly sings to chell after she leaves- that caroline is still somewhere in glados, as she states 'now little caroline is here too'. we dunno fully though!

I legit cried when that credits song played, the fact that Glados wasn't really evil.
Rhythm Bot the main unit (where glados/wheatley was put) was the one damaging to the core attached itself.
So whenever a new core is attached to that unit, the core changes its attitude and classifies Chell as a "fat person, etc".

Good news is that there's an apparent likelyhood that Glados didn't actually follow through with that and faked it to save face if we take some of the things Glados said after that. The turret lullaby, the parts of I want you gone that have Glados showing human emotions, the entire bird situation of hers in the co-op ending and her HAL 9000 interaction if we consider Lego dimensions canon. It's possible and hasn't been debunked at all so I personally think she just faked it to not show weakness to her least favorite person ever who just saved her entire facility.

I like how Wheatly says "GRAB ME GRAB ME GRAB ME! GRAB MEEEEEE!!" when he already was like 5 metters away.
Why is nobody talking about “maybe when I delete you I’ll stop feeling so bad” in the end song. It’s like she genuinely cares but tries to hide it with redacted. She pretends she still hates you but she’s softened up. She saved you from space, she said oh thank god you’re okay and she said letting you go is this easiest option when you were unconscious she could’ve killed you easily. Man glados is great
GLaDOS has developed very significantly as a character through Portal 2 - when she first wakes up, all she can think of is her hatred of Chell, and she tries to pay back Chell with her passive-aggressive behavior and treatment.
This hatred persists up to Chapter 5, but abruptly ends the moment GLaDOS is transferred in the potato battery. Now POTATOS, she’s still snarky toward Chell, but not as savagely as she was before. Having been rendered powerless, she decides its better to work with Chell than die in Wheatley’s fiery explosion.
The two travel together, and it’s during this trip through Old Aperture that POTATOS learns who she truly is, and as she starts putting the pieces together, she largely stops picking on Chell, even encouraging her once!
When they confront Wheatley in the first test, GLaDOS strategizes with Chell about how to defeat him, showing she trusts Chell enough now to be a team player by working together and collaborating on a plan!
The two work together to defeat Wheatley, the pair unstoppable together...but calamity strikes - Chell is sucked out into space with Wheatley!! The two are in mortal danger of being lost forever! This was GLaDOS’s moment - she was handed the perfect opportunity on a silver platter to kill Chell and Wheatley and take her facility back! She would have everything she wanted - she’d would’ve gotten revenge on Chell, retaken her facility from Wheatley, and finally be free of the potato battery. Everything she ever wanted was in her grasp.
Almost everything.
Now, something strange was happening to GLaDOS - having travelled with Chell, working together with her, *trusting* Chell with her *life*, GLaDOS actually didn’t want to kill Chell anymore. She realized she actually liked Chell now! So, she banished Wheatley - but saved Chell. She cared for Chell until she awoke, and was so relieved her new friend was alright!
Though she put on a tough act after rescuing Chell, GLaDOS’s heart was softened for the first time since being Caroline all those years ago. Perhaps as a final parting gift, she even returned Chell’s Companion Cube that was supposed destroyed many years ago - a final act of kindness from GLaDOS.
GLaDOS metamorphesized from a burned, vengeful AI to a compassionate, kind being. The road to redemption had many twists and turns, but it was a story that couldn’t have been told better with shortcuts off the redemptive road.
A poetic synopsis of GLaDOS’s character development (imho) 😁👍

@King Ghidorah 2025 we can get a prequel tho where you play as someone else but we got portal stories : MEL
I just want to solve more tests with portals
You can easily continue the series in a new direction. We just don't need to follow the sake formula. We can get rid of Chell and focus on something else entirely. At the end of the day, all you really need is a gameplay concept that would be fun to play with when working with portals, much like Portal 2's gels.
One idea could be a mechanic that utilizes light and shadows. Or perhaps something simpler like knocking things over with projectiles or adjusting the weight of objects. Maybe Zero Gravity test chambers. You could also possibly even completely abandon the concept of puzzle solving in the traditional sense and turn it into some sort of metroidvania adventure game or something. There's all sorts of directions you could take the series from here.
Portal 2 is a perfect end, yes, but it can also be just as perfect of a bridge. That said, I'd there are no ideas from the official team, forcing a Portal 2 into existence is unnecessary. That's one thing I can really respect VALVe for! They won't just mindlessly spit out sequels left and right.

It's just sad that Glados had to delete Caroline just so she could let Chell go. Glados couldn't kill her anymore because she was growing attached to her test subject. She couldn't let go of her either so she must delete whatever it is that makes her so sentimental.
wait thats the reason she deleted caroline?
@@Spacebugg probably also because finding out you have a separated mind located in your artificial brain could be unsettling to say the least
For me strangely Portal 2 has the same fell as Bioshock 2 at least to me.
it may look similiar to some bcz in both games we hv to escape from a weird place .....although fr me i loved portal series much more than bioshock .....so not same fr me
Bye bye moments:
8:35: Turrets shoot you after a moment they move their arms and not kill you
9:11: Turret opera house
10:07: Empty field
it’s so wierd seeing the game like this because when you see it now the lightning and everything looks so much better
Rewatching this just reminded me how much I love Glad0s :))
*8:23** You can hear how it cuts from the game into the music clip.*
I remember actually shedding a tear during the turret opera, just sitting there, realizing how much fun I had with this game (it was one of those games that I didn't want to start playing for a long time and on one day I just wanted to get it off my list) and then it suddenly hit me that it's over now
Back then in 2013 or 2014 when I was still living with my family and was sitting in my own room way past my bedtime with school on the other day, chatting with a friend on Steam in between the levels
I havent played or seen much gameplay and this ending still makes me smile.
