    That makes so much sense. Would be interested to find out how writing a Linkedin profile differs from writing a CV, what to write/not to write/examples etc. (For those that noticed I do use the term CV deliberately as I am in UK.) Would also be interested in more info on writing a contractors CV and contractor job hunting tips as opposed to a perm role... sorry I know it went a bit off topic.

    I have never got a job via any job hunters. I remember only 2-3 times to submit my resume.
    My best way is via social networking.
    I believe that most of jobs in my area not real; they are fake or just posted for some legal or traditional ways but already the position already reserved for some one else.
    2 of jobs I joined in the last 10 yrs there were no one occupied this position between 6 - 12 months & sure they need to be filled.

    Hi Andy. LinkedIn certainly is a wonderful tool for building networks. I devoted the entire weekend to sending out invitations to connect. I suppose this is where LinkedIn really gets tricky. I received a notification that I am a "power user" and was subsequently cut off from viewing further potential connections (laughing as I'm writing this). Since it is the beginning of the month, I will now have to wait at least 3 weeks before starting the process again, OR pay close to $50/month for unlimited searches as a Premium user. Just wanted to share this. Thanks for tirelessly posting your great videos!

    Hi Andy, John Schmit here. Thanks for the suggestions here but regarding your ideas for the 'dynamic side', I'm a little bit dubious about the amount of time required to create original content on LinkedIn. With the sort of things that I have expertise in, I could not create anything worthwhile in 30 minutes. I've read some posts by people who are slapping things up on LinkedIn, presumably to generate more traffic for their profile. Regarding most of these articles, I have found them to be so vacuous that it caused me to have a negative view of the author which obviously is not conducive to a future business or employment opportunity. None the less, thanks for the video.

    • @andylacivita
      @andylacivita  Před 5 lety +2

      John, Interesting perspective. I think you can do several things to accommodate and put out a quality piece. There is absolutely nothing wrong with putting out a 5 part piece. Break it down into little pieces. Generate the content. Write one piece a week for month and so forth. They don't need to be long, but they should be valuable. Also, I would suggest spending an hour or longer if you need to!

    Andy. How did you finally get Linkedin to live stream you? If I'm following a # do i get notified if something is posted? If I use a # will my posted automatic add to that # location?

    Wouldn't writing articles when you are trying to change careers alert your current employer/coworkers you are trying to move. Especially of the articles are in a space you dont work in but are trying to go into?

    Great advice! How many connections should a person target 50, 100, 200, 500? I can feel that the answer will be depends. But Andrew you probably have a feel as to what should be typical for a experienced professional looking for a new position.

      George, that's a wonderful question. Actually, it's not THE NUMBER, but having the right people in your network. It's honestly only take ONE to help get you to the right job. I would say focus on quality over quantity. Also, I am holding a 4-part live series and one of the sessions is on job search networking. I really hope you can attend or catch the replay. I wanted to say thank you for making this video. I plan to push even harder to make some connections in my new home town. I moved here for a promotion as a general manager and realized after a few months the job wasn't what I expected. I've been looking to find another job, but as I said I'm still pretty unfamiliar with my town, and I've always been kind of an introvert. I'm hoping by using your advice I can break out of that, at least enough to get my foot in the door and meet some great new people.

    Hey Andrew, great video. Been watching your channel recently, what a great wealth of information!
    I just noticed somebody copied quite a bit of my LinkedIn profile. I did put in a lot of effort refining it and didn't like it being copied. My LinkedIn profile mirrors my resume.
    What would you suggest I do?

      @Amith Jagota I'm a professional recruiter and have been using LinkedIn since 2010 so I've seen it all! Unfortunately, this happens on the platform and there isn't really a way to enforce people not to copy other profiles. I wouldn't worry about it! Focus on you and building your network :)
