- Here's a complete run-down of the new Fortress Ultra-Quiet 6 gallon air compressor from Harbor Freight. Check out the whole video for specifics - but overall it's a fantastic machine. It's insanely quiet - I was blown away. It has similar performance to the McGraw 6-gallon, but incredibly quiet.
Thank you for watching!

You guys (and gals) are awesome. Thanks for making it possible for me to do this stuff. Horns up. \m/ - Jak na to + styl
Just purchased this item yesterday after watching your video you convinced me that I brought a pretty decent unit your video was very informative thanks for the feedback , keep up the good work👍
I appreciate that! Thank you for the feedback and thank you for watching and commenting. 🇺🇸🤘
Jimmy - thanks for the review. Was on the fence and this solidified my decision. Keep up the good work brother.
Hey thank you for watching! It’s a great machine. It’s a game changer - very quiet!
Very small nit. I was hoping you would fill a pretty much flat pickup tire. Thanks for the demo! I bought one today - $229.99 ($230) regular, member price $179.99 ($180) plus $28 for membership. So, basically I saved $50 not including the noobie membership charge. I bought it mostly for airing tires and blowing out dirt in the engine compartment. Thanks for the video - cleared up a couple of questions I had. 6-7-2024
I ended up buying this very compressor based on much research including this video. (It is quieter than the Makita 2 Gallon I had to return cause the nailer that came with it had issues). This is a great tool. It's my first compressor. Im glad I didn't chicken out and go smaller.
It’s a nice machine - and easy on the ears for sure! Thank you for watching 🇺🇸🤘
Thank you for this video!! I completely missed the break-in period instructions and caught this video (showing that break in procedure) just before using the first time. Also showing how to properly setup cables with the connectors might be useful.
Oh, awesome. Glad this could help. Congrats on your new machine! You’re going to love it.
Good video, always new stuff with you !
I think this was the longest video I've seen you do, and that is a good thing :-)))
I appreciate that man! I’m starting to lengthen things a bit. Don’t want to leave out useful info. Thanks for always being supportive 🇺🇸🤘
:-)))
This might be perfect for my airbrush and painting needs.
Should do the job!
Just got mine you answered all my questions thanks
Awesome. Thank you for watching 🇺🇸🤘
I just opened my email as of today 03/24/24 Sunday, it’s on sale in Harbor Freight for $199. I got the Kobalt 4.3 gallon ultra quiet air compressor with wheels. Sounds like this is a little bit quiet than my Kobalt. The good thing of this is 6 gallons vs my 4.3 gallons. I just wish they made this in 8 gallons. The other good thing of this is, portability just a perfect size to put in the car trunk for emergency air tires. Thanks for the review
Harbor Freight has gone a long way especially with the new line, new selections of Tools !!!
This machine is legit. It’s not as powerful as the standard Fortress 6-gallon, but boy is it quiet! Thank you for watching 🇺🇸🤘
I went into the rabbit hole with the silent compressors and ur testing is pretty spot on from my experience, the only thing about the silent ones is that ones it reaches to about 80 psi till full the sound gets a little louder but still a lot quieter than the standard ones, not sure if u noticed or tested it but its worth the info if u havent. And with these compressors 1hp is should be a good start up that can do alot of things or move up right onto a 2 hp and up silent which is the sweet spot for a diy person
You know, I’m just blown away with how quiet it really is. I can carry a conversation while it’s running, and actually hear myself think! Takes away so much aggravation from hearing a motor’s blistering sound. This will be used for small stuff, as I have a 5SCFM machine for bigger jobs. Such a breath of fresh air! Thank you for watching and commenting 🇺🇸🤘
I couldn't agree more bradah, i have sensitive hearing and anything higher than 80 decibels gives me headaches hence i searched and opted for quiet compressors, im saving up for a rotary one, you should to companies and do adeep dive on them as well, im sure they would happy to get their stuff tested out.@@jimmysgarage9068
The Iron maiden poster made this Video Awesome !!!!
You know it!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Saw Maiden many many times in Concert.

One of the best product reviews I've seen. When you turned it on at first it was at 72db was that just a mistake on the part of the db app you were using?
Thank you for the kind review! It could have been the iPad’s fault. This machine is whisper quiet - I ran it inside the house to blow up an air mattress and nobody in the next room even noticed. Super cool. Thank you for watching! 🇺🇸🤘
I've had the 2 gallon Fortress ultra quiet for a few years now, and I just purchased this new 6 gallon ultra quiet model (haven't yet opened yet). Now don't get me wrong, at 60 dBA the 2 gallon model is REALLY quiet compared to 80+ dBA traditional models, but it's not silent by any means (not that anyone is claiming that's the case). I'm stating all this because I really liked your video, and you're the first to release a video on this new model. However, from a viewer's perspective who was really interested in seeing how truly loud/quiet this new model at 66 dBA is, I think the fact that you're wearing a microphone is skewing our perspective on sound feedback. I mean, when I see you turn the unit on, it's incredibly silent, even more so than what I know the 60 dBA two gallon model to be, which I know can't be correct since this new model is rated at 66 dBA. I had to watch the video a few times to conclude that it's because you have a mic on your collar. This allows us to hear YOU really well, but as alluded to earlier, skews our feedback as to the sound level of the compressor itself. I apologize if I sound as if I'm nitpicking, but I feel one of the principle elements of this review should be to allow us to get as good a grasp as possible of the sound level of the compressor. Maybe a follow up where the mic is coming from the camera, and then we hear you speaking along side the compressor in tandem would really help in the sound comparison. Again, loved the video! Hope you take this as positive feedback. Thanks!
Thank you so much for that feedback! I’ll plan on doing a comparison video between this one and standard fortress 6-gallon. I’ll film without the microphone so viewers can understand just how quiet it is.
Your feedback is very much appreciated. I don’t know how to get better unless viewers like you let me know what you’d like to see! Thanks man 🇺🇸🤘
I wish you could open the 6 gallon use it and give useful feedback.
Which do you like better? I see the 6 gallon is $40 more right now
This is the exact same as the 2 gallon except it’s sitting on a 6 gallon tank.
I own both, and they are quiet enough to having running beside you indoors while you watch tv and talk on the phone.
I have a 20 gallon husky compressor that that I use 100 foot ext cord on to get it as far away from the house/garage as possible and it’s still louder 100 feet away than either of these.
which hose did you use to connect to the air compressor?
Very good video, thank you! Will you plumb this for removing water?
Thank you sir! I was not planning on that.
Sweet. just bought one for my nailers. my old compressor is probably the loudest compressor in the world.
You’ll love it. I’m going to sell my (better) Fortress because this is just so quiet. Thanks for watching John 🇺🇸🤘
My Porter Cable pancake was disturbingly loud. Last night it started surging, struggling, the smoking. I was so glad. Harbor freight has $50 off today for ITC members (which (I already was). Just finished break-in. So nice! Pray it lasts.
Great video. I need something to clean mud, dust and water of of RC cars really well. Do you think this has enough power to do the job? Thanks!
For sure, you’ll love it. Thank you for watching! 🤘🏻🇺🇸
I like the Iron maiden poster 🤟🤟
You know it! 🇺🇸🤘
Curious how it would perform with the blow gun for car detailing such as cleaning out carpets, etc? Is 6 gallons sufficient?
I have the 2 gallon model and use it for the same reason…I get about 20 seconds of continuous use and then it has to refill. It’s powerful enough, but I wish it lasted at least 30 seconds before refill. I’m guessing the 6gal model will last much longer. Powerful no doubt. Run time…left to be desired
Portability would be good to know. I see from the specs that it's a little heavier than the DeWalt pancake.
It’s about 40lbs. Not super light, but still portable.
I bought mine today and I feel clueless because I have never used a air compressor before
Would (in your option) this be able to be hung on a wall or would you go with something else? Thanks.
Hung on a wall while you use? I wouldn’t hang it. If you have a shelf that can handle the weight and vibration, I’d put it there & secure it to the shelf so it doesn’t walk off. Just be sure to position the drain valve so it can drain out after each use. I hope that helps.
would you say it's worth getting if i want to paint the plastic panels/fairings on my bikes??
Ray - I’ve never used an HVLP gun - but I do know that they use a good bit of air. You’ll want to get a higher SCFM machine to handle painting. Now if you are ONLY painting and using it with short bursts - this may do the trick. Again I’m no paint expert. 🤘
@@jimmysgarage9068 Thanks for the response, yeah I'd be doing two body parts at a time no rush..lol. just not trying to spend a whole lot when I'll be painting once or twice every 1000 years lol
I have the same compressor & the my 0 to 150 is 3:28 & 120 to 150 is 56 seconds. Is something wrong with my compressor? Maybe the higher altitude I live in ?
Did you break it in correctly?
@@jimmysgarage9068I hope I did it correctly but does it mean I broke my air compressor?
I’ll stick with my Aluminum Fortress 2 gallon (37 lbs / 57 dbA)+ 7 gallon aluminum auxiliary (7 lbs) … more flexibility vs the Aluminum pancake (51 lbs / 66 db). 9 dbA difference means it's almost 2x as loud, so not exactly silent anymore. Pancake does deliver higher CFM (2.7 vs 2.1), but is it really depends on your application.
👍
Nice video, Home Depot is running a sale on a ridged 6 gal 150 psi compressor with 18 ga Brad nailer and 16 ga finish nailer all with lifetime service agreement for $199.00 the tools alone are worth the price. Not taking anything away from harbor freight but they need to do better
Just my 2 cents worth
Thank you! I always see those deals too - and it would be nice for HF to have a package like that. Thank you for watching and commenting 🇺🇸🤘
Bro! Thanks so much! My Los Angeles Home Depot has Rigid $189 6 Gal. Portable Electric Pancake Air Compressor w/ 18GA Brad Nailer, 16GA Straight Finish Nailer, & 18GA Finish Stapler. I was about to go to Harbour Freight. Edit: The Rigid is LOUD 😕
HF currently has a promotion on these for $230 with a brad nailer. I'm strongly considering this myself and returning my CAT quiet compressor which only puts out 120psi... extremely quiet though.
@@Dnasty1 This one is whisper quiet. So cool. I’ll do a long term review once I’ve owned and used a bunch, but so far it’s pretty great. 🇺🇸🤘
Can I use it to drain my sprinkler system?
I’ve never worked with sprinklers - what do you typically use?
I just bought this compressor, right after breaking it in, it took almost 5 minutes to fill up to 150 psi...
That’s weird… do you have a hose connected to it when filling? Some air tools have poor fittings & can leak air while filling.
@@jimmysgarage9068 I don't have anything attached to it. I'll give it another look and try it again.
had one of these compressor and burn up in three months
Oh no!
@@jimmysgarage9068can this unit power a plasma cutter?
@@berryruffin871 For short bursts, yes - but not for continuous work. I’d definitely recommend something with at least 20 gallons if you’re going to use a plasma. I used my 21-gal 175 PSI machine and it ran out of pressure pretty quickly.
Just "broke it in" and was disappointed comparing his time. It took mine 3:00 to get to 100psi. Not so good I guess.
Maiden🤘
You know it 🤘
What makes it quiet?
Magic.
@jimmysgarage9068 I don't believe in magic, cults, or religions.
Stop lying , those excuses are for the ignorant...
They use a noise suppressor, obviously, Jimmy .
A friend at a local tire store told me it had a "screw" mechanism that's why it's so quiet. NO, I don't know what that means.
@@yuuwhoo oh! It's a screw type compressor! Thanks for the info, screw compressors are cool ! 😎
At the 5:31 video mark, you toss up the devil horns hand sign. Go satan! satan rocks!
I have bigger Fortress it’s so quiet
I want that one. Need a reason to buy it.
