Ellen MOVED to a stolen island where poverty is SO bad and where NATIVE HAWAIIANS are 10% of the population due to extremely recent colonialism yet they are 42% of the homeless population
And she moved to their island to eat their food in abundance, to not work, to take acres of land from them, to walk by the native homeless and struggling day after day and not use her platform a SINGLE TIME to talk about the struggles of natives THAT SHE IS CHOOSING TO CONTRIBUTE TO.
She’s made multiple videos about how much she loves living in Hawaii and how GREAT her life is but she can’t even stop to say “I have this while other people don’t and I contribute to that”
And THEN she denies her excessive privilege and claims that no one is experiencing enough mental, physical, or financial hardship to decide not to be pregnant. Which is inherently invasive and dangerous and expensive.

This may be an unpopular opinion, but I'm pro choice for any situation. Even if the parents are in a long term monogamous relationship with plenty of money and resources I still believe in their right to terminate the pregnancy if that's what's right for them. No amount of legislation or guilt tripping should change that. you have a right to choose whether you expand your family or not regardless of how good or bad your situation may be. I guess I am pro abortion hahah

      @zankapfel4390 Před 4 lety +224

I don't think that is a very unpopular opinion, depending on where you are/who you are asking. In Western Europe, where I am from, people in these exact circumstances absolutely reserve the right to abort and people would mostly support or at least accept it. The stress on the body on the pregnant person is so underrepresented in this conversation. It is hard and dangerous and if you are at a tough physical spot right now, you should have the right and the option to not do it. My mum was a tiny woman and suffered the rest of her life from having me.

My native Hawaiian friends laugh at those type of comments, and some find that actually offensive. Native Hawaiians actually have MORE opportunity to success here- For example, only native Hawaiian are allowed to attend the high education/academic school, Kamehameha, and there are certain pristine areas of land that only native Hawaiians are allowed to purchase property on, at a very cheap price.

I'm one of those people who had a child very young, struggled, and now have made a solid choice to never have more kids. I only have one so I always get the "when is the sibling coming"? Or "are you sure you dont want more"? And the infamous "You'll change your mind" 😫 Its very frustrating because I genuinely don't want to bring more kids into the world I cant adequately take care of. My first wasnt planned, so what do I look like forcing ANOTHER child to deal with my shortcomings. I hold enough shame and guilt as it is!

My child wasn't quite planned, we got pregnant about a year earlier than anticipated. A pleasant surprise for us. My husband and I are both only children ourselves, and we planned to stop at 1. We can financially support one child very well, but wouldn't be able to do right financially by two children. It's the right choice for us and for our child.

@@singingbear8768 Except they don't... At least not in all vaccines. The mercury containing compound used in some vaccines is thimerosal. Thimerosal is mainly used is multi-dose vials of flu vaccines for conservation purposes (it keeps fungi and bacteria from growing in the vials). As per the CDC's statements, apart from flu vaccines, which not all children get, very few childhood vaccines contain thimerosal, and those which do (DTaP and DTaP-Hib combination vaccine) contain trace amounts. Also, it is important to note that there is a difference between thimerosal, which is broken down into ethylmercury in the body, and methylmercury, which is a mercury compound found in the environment, and known for its toxicity. Methylmercury is the compound associated with toxicity potential from dietary intake (mainly fish and other marine animals) and most other mercury related hazards.
As for fetal cells, vaccines themselves do not contain fetal cells. Cells are mostly used to multiply pathogens such as viruses and strict intracellular bacteria because they otherwise cannot grow in vitro. These pathogens need to be multiplied because they are (or more likely, their antigens) necessary for the production of the vaccine itself. If anything, vaccines contain bacterial cells or viruses, and not fetal cells. The cells are merely used as a medium to promote pathogen growth, in the same way you would use an agar plate to multiply regular bacteria. Furthermore, the cells used are not extracted from foetuses on the daily. The cells used in labs are grown in vitro, from what is known as immortalized cell lines - cells that can grow and divide through mitosis indefinitely. Most of the cell lines currently used have been used for several decades, and simply come from vials; there is no need to extract them from foetuses (which would actually be far more complicated anyway).
      Just saying ;)

I was in my final semester of the University when I found out I was pregnant. I did those last 3 months while violently ill. I lost 23 pounds in my first trimester due to severe morning sickness, all while doing final exams. When I left school I needed to get a job immediately so I could get the 600 hours I need to qualify for maternity leave (a privilege that is not available in all countries). My point is, it was INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT. It, at times, felt physically impossible. That is not something I would wish on anyone who didnt choose that for themself. To top it all off, my delivery was very complicated and I needed almost all of the interventions. When my daughter was born she had seizures and spent a week in the NICU. I am so grateful that I'm Canadian and that stay was covered by Healthcare but I can't even imagine how much that would cost in the states. I guarantee you we couldn't afford it. Privileged Ellen Fisher has lived too sheltered of a life to grasp the experiences of unprivileged, scared and desperate pregnant women.
I wonder what her response would be if I had the opportunity to tell her of my experience. It was 1983. I was 19, very low income, with my boyfriend for about a year when I became pregnant, living with my two older sisters. He didn’t want the baby. I didn’t want an abortion. My oldest sister was furious with me. My second oldest sister was unsupportive. A woman at work knew of a couple who were looking to adopt. Another co-worker’s parents were willing to take me in so that I could keep the baby. My oldest sister physically assaulted me when the prospective adoptive parents’ lawyer called me. My boyfriend threatened my life by saying that his dad’s friends would find me wherever I went. They would find me, hurt me, kill me, to spare the family the shame of an out-of-wedlock pregnancy.
I was terrified and blamed myself for causing upheaval in my family and my boyfriend’s family. I had no money to raise a child and didn’t know anything about public assistance. I was terrified of being killed by my boyfriend’s father’s mobster friends. I could’nt see how I would be able to take care of a child,
At 10 weeks of gestation, I went through with the abortion.
I immediately felt empty and lost. Neither my sisters nor my boyfriend offered comfort. I became depressed.
I resented my boyfriend and broke up with him a year later. I lost respect and trust for my sisters. Our relationship never recovered. My oldest sister chastised me for the abortion as if she had no part in it. I had guilt and nightmares for many years afterwards. I longed for that child although I had three live births.
I don’t think Ellen would believe that my family pressured me and even assaulted me. I don’t think that she would believe that my boyfriend was unsupportive and that his father threatened my life. I don’t think she would be able to comprehend my fears and why I felt that I had no other choices.
I don’t think she would believe that, although I went through with the abortion, I grieved for many years and still feel loss.
She has too limited of life experience, immature emotional intelligence,

Here's another concept: kids are OPTIONAL. In the states it can be very difficult to stay childfree because voluntary sterilization is rarely approved. It took me 10 doctors to find one who would finally sterilize me. It's okay to not have kids. It's okay to terminate an unwanted pregnancy. Babies are not all that - they are expensive, they are work, and they are not meant for everyone. People like Ellen make me so angry.

My dad gave me the hardest time about having kids when my sister got pregnant. Every phone call he’d ask when I was going to have one and every time I’d say I don’t want kids. Not listening to the last twenty times I said it. I also have reproductive issues and it’s very painful. I’ve asked for a parcial hysterectomy so many times, and my OBGYN was like “good luck getting that”. I already have a life partner and they’re sterilized so if my partner maybe wanting one in the future you already have the answer.

I had to take an ambulance to the hospital and was charged $6,500, mind you I declined the IV and had no medications in the ambulance. My hospital bill was over $10,000. Thankfully my insurance covered all of it, but it's insane to think that some women don't have insurance at all and would have to pay the full amount out of pocket or even people with good insurance would still have to pay 20% or more of those bills.
I wouldn't get an abortion myself unless it was medically necessary but it is not my place to tell other women that they can't and i don't even want to imagine the trauma the woman has to go through.

We called 911 and firefighters came to our house in a fire truck and helped us get her into the car. They said they could send an ambulance but it would be super expensive. Luckily, they were able

I am so privileged that when I found I was pregnant with my third son, only 6 weeks after the birth of my second, I didn't have to make a choice I didn't want to make. A choice that i really feel I would have struggled to heal from. I live in the UK; childbirth costs are non existent, financial support for childcare was available (less so now, I admit) and I had a loving husband and we were able for me to only work part time and still survive and a supportive family who were able to help with chilcare. Honestly, even with all of that, it was rough. Two babies and a five year old. No spare cash, no spare energy and complex pregnancies. I would not have been able to do it without all of the help I had.
I get, almost irrationally, angry with women in situations like mine, or better, that expend their energy telling women less privileged and less fortunate what they should be doing with their bodies or how they should cope with these things.
It's funny that the ones who want to end abortion are also never keen on taking steps to help women care for the babies when they arrive. Once they're here, bithe mother and baby are considered a drain.

Thanks for making this .. as someone who has had an abortion, seeing Ellen’s post was so hurtful to me. When I found out I was pregnant my world shattered. I saw the price of an abortion and had no idea how I would accumulate the money in time, and the price would still only increase every week I was pregnant. I tried starving myself to kill the baby but then read that this would sooner kill me than the baby. Eventually my angel best friend offered to pay for my abortion, but I knew I was so lucky for this... still the feeling of shame and stupidity and worthlessness followed me for months after my abortion. To think of Ellen in her comfortable home writing about the beauty of the unborn baby and a mother’s bond.... I don’t know why I was so shocked, based on her other uneducated stances. Her ignorance is stunning. It’s too bad she homeschools her children.

I had one 3 years ago and looking back I realize I was soooo lucky/privileged to have had the savings to cover mine as well as the time to take off work to travel 2 hours out of town to BOTH appointments. I also couldn't drive myself at the time and was fortunate to have someone drive me. I remember they tried to see if I could get financial assistance and I made too much even though I was technically 'lower class'/poor. If anything had fallen out of place- if I wasn't allowed to call off a specific day and time, if I was $100 short, if no one could have given me a ride- I'd have been screwed.

  • @Aerinn21

I'm a woman who does not want to have children, for several reasons, but the main one is I'm not fit to be a mother. Thank you for acknowledging that attitude and seeing the positive side of it. So many people have kids and treat them horribly. At 30 years old I know myself, I'm often lazy and selfish, I value my alone time and piece of mind above anything else, I have very little patience. It's foolish to assume that would magically change after giving birth.
Adoption isn't a magical cure either. It's often not an easy thing to do, legally speaking, as well as biologically! After giving birth the brain releases hormone(s) to make a woman feel the need to take care of the baby, watch over him/her, etc. Because of that it's really hard for the woman to part with her baby post-labor and might influence her ability to make an informed decision about keeping the baby. As the result that woman might not want to give the child for abortion after all and regret it later on.
Or what about all those cases where being pregnant is literally a threat to woman's life or health? What good will make bringing another person into this world when you - the mother - are severely disabled or dead as the result?
    Pro-choice all the way.

About the bit in which you talk about not wanting children when young,I've talked to 7 OBGYNs about wanting to prevent pregnancy permanently which I knew was gonna be hard since I was young and childless when I first started asking, but at this point is just ridiculous how "family centered" the medical system can be. I appealed to being sick in agony with two heredatory diseases since childhood (eugenics appealed called where I live) and I was not approved for the surgery. At this point,it's been years since I've had sex more than five times a year in fear the condom would break and I was put at risk of becoming pregnant. My body can not handle pregnancy, yet what I was told over and over is that I could be monitored during my pregnancy, hospitalized and cared for.... Why would I want to put myself through that? Risk my life and risking becoming crippled just so I don't regret not passing on my defective genes? I get "young" people make dumb choices sometimes, but holy shit, wish I could be granted some control over my life

Exotic fruit just falling off the trees in her backyard, plenty of money to afford the finest and freshest organic food…and of course she is gifted with the most amazing beauty, toned, tall, slim and tanned

She had hyperemesis from week 6 to 15. She was hospitalized at week 10 and the meds, feeding tube etc did not work and her kidneys started to shut down.
She was told terminating wouls really be in her best interest. Literally a choice between her own baby or her life. She had a 5 year old at home abd a husband who was devastated because this was a planned baby.
She terminated and was open about it and was shunned and ridiculed by people online who would declare that they would have died before killing their child.

I had my daughter as a single mother from the moment of conception. It was incredibly difficult in the following 4.5 years as I became mentally unwell, was financially unstable and lost both of my jobs and had to quit studying and my lifestyle in general. It took such a toll on me that I know I can confidently say there is no way I could have another child without very specific circumstances. The risk for postnatal depression relapse during secondary pregnancies is so high and that isn't good for mother, family, the first child or baby. People need choices so they can raise healthy and happy babies/children. I wish this was more recognised.

I am 39 and I've never wanted children. I LOVE children, I'm not some crazy child hater, I just never wanted a child for even a second of my entire life.
But I understand that I am not the norm and that having children is an aspiration for most people and a life changing experience for them when they do, if they are able to.
But I've always gotten quite a bit of flack for not wanting kids. But what I think about the most is my grandma.
When I was in my twenties I was talking about not wanting kids and how annoyed I was by people telling me that I was selfish or that I was going to change my mind. My grandma told me that if she were born when I was she would have never had children (she had two, my mom and my uncle). Although she loved and loves her children dearly, she never wanted them. She not only did not want them, she wasn't in a proper position to take care of them, emotionally or financially.
She lived in an era where abortion was out of the question, having children was a must and women were shamed for everything: having children, not having them, having a career, not having one, being divorced, etc.
Although I have been judged EXTREMELY for not wanting children, at least I have the choice. How many woman were or are like my grandma, who had children they never wanted out of pressure and shame? What person thinks it is morally better to shame and pressure a woman who doesn't want children and is unable to care for them to have them yet shun abortion?
Only psychopaths are pro abortion. It isn't a choice anyone wants to make.
