  • How To Fix The Flashing 4X4 Light On Your 2002 And Up Ford Explorer.
If you continue to have a problem then you will need to replace the 4x4 control module which is located behind the glove box. make sure to get an exact part number replacement as they made many that will fit but will short out if not the correct part number. for this Explorer the Part # was 2C5Z-7E453-A

Thanks for the video, I have this problem on my 2004 explorer and now I have something to look at. It's funny I have a rattling lately and sounds like a shield and maybe something happened under there like the one you shown.

Great video! Your description was very clear and concise. The 4x4 Low on my '02 Explorer works fine but the 4x4 High does not. My 4x4 High light flashes 10 times when I start the vehicle but I can't shift into High. I assume that since I can shift into Low, the electronic control module is working and if I'm in Low, I can shift out of Low by pressing either the Auto or High button so I assume the buttons are fine. I'm leaning toward changing the shift motor. Any thoughts?

+Mike Tankosich I would also try the shift motor. you may be able to test it by removing and seeing how far it turns when you put it in 4 wheel low. But it may be hard to tell how far it is supposed to turn.

DID this issue also keep your 20002 explorer from revving over 2000 RPM? THat is what is going on with mine. I have no engine codes coming up. Can you advise?

+Raymond Montoya No it drove fine just had the flashing. I did also replace the 4x4 control module.

Will it work if you buy just the sensor and no wires?

+Darryl Shamble The sensors have molded in wires like solid state.

hey on my truck only the 4x4 high light flashes does that mean that only one of the sensors is bad

Not Sure but I think i would try replacing the control module behind the glovebox first.
