- Levy is crushing the chess game on CZcams (and Twitch!). Check him out: / gothamchess
Levy learned so much from the last lesson he asked me to come back and teach him some opening lines that can generate creative and exciting attacks. We also play some Hand & Brain and swap stories from our youths playing chess tournaments in high school gymnasiums and hotel conference rooms. Check it out! - Hry
I can tell Levy is learning a lot from these lessons
its really nice of Northern to give him some lessons!
He's getting weird
This
I hope he becomes a regular
He’s learning about getting weird with arbitrage.
Please make the next chess vid "How to make attacking and defensive moves at the same time w/ former GM Ryan Letourneau"
Make it Ryan Gary Letourneau for the extra memeicity.
@@TheSniper9752 Ryan Gary "Northern" Letourneau AKA the karate chop
Me: "Man the holidays have really been getting me down this year.."
CZcams Algorithm: "May I offer you an egg in these trying times?"
An egg in these frying times*
This deserves a billion likes
Well ‘tis the season. 🥚
Really good joke, man.
You had me at gash.
Hearing Levy say "Get weird" every time gets me man
I hope when Levy becomes a GM he remembers the man who made him.
Unfortunately I don't think he'll become a GM, he's to scared to get weird
@@Mrcat-ue3ih I may be wrong but I think Levy said he doesnt want to put the extra time and effort in that it would take to become a gm, and he is happy enough just being at im level and teaching
@@ButtersStodge Yeah, he did, but I was just joking since the original comment was an obvious joke on nl being better than Levy
@@Mrcat-ue3ih joke? NL has reached GM unlike Levy.
@@nathanstewart4131 many times actually
Something about the way these two interact is so wholesome
LEVY SAID THE THING
FOUR AND A HALF MINUTES IN AND HE SAID LET'S GET WEIRD
ACTUAL MAXIMUM POG
Next episode Levy says: “I like to make attacking and defensive moves at the same time” and our lives will be complete
This kicks ass, they have such a natural chemistry
Levy on NLSS when?
Like Walter White and Jesse Pinkman
Glad to see a Grand Master like yourself help out a rookie like Levy, it's always great to encourage the new blood :)
I am fairly sure that Levy Rosman isn't a grandmaster. He is an IM though.
@@loganfinn2728 Well duh, cuz NL is the grandmaster
@@NeoBoneGirl Oh how foolish I am. My mistake and my apologies! I never meant to doubt World Champion Northern Lion's absolute dominance of the game
@@loganfinn2728 I think you're missing the point, NL literally WAS a grandmaster.
@@drvofoka7033 Was and is. NL is the greatest chess player of all time
"in every attack either the pawns go first, or in certain situations the pieces go first."--IM Levy
An eye opening quote
I can’t believe it even more pog from the pog duo of chess.
Levy: "We will win"
NL: Mouse-slips and blunders the queen.
Who knew you can get spoiled in a chess video 😂😂😂
Ahh man it would have been so cool if he did the right move, IDK why NL hesitates so much and ends up mouse slipping because of it, even when you have a master level player telling you to do it.
@@Napstablooky I think he was just waiting for Levy to finish talking before making the move
That was golden
oof oof oof oof
I want to see a 2 hour lesson of Isaac with Levy next
The crossover I never knew I needed
Lesson #1: Missing Tinted Rocks
can we acquiesce Levy for the NLSS
They have great chemistry together, I'd love to have Levy in an NLSS or something!
55:15 “I try to make attacking and defensive moves at the same time.”
Alternate title: Harry Potter and the Articulate Egg
Underrated comment
"I can't- what- what do you even- what- 'predilection'?"
He's filling in Dan's role nicely lol
I'm shocked you didnt show Levy Grobs Gambit, the only opening with 100% win rate
Can’t tell which one I like more, Dan-Egg or Goth-Egg.
I like them both, because we get to see Ryab trying to draw on tactics he heard from an IM, and then he gets to go teach someone who unironically knows his pieces by their Game of Thrones counterpart whenever he gets to play with Levy.
Imagine Goth-Dan
They’re on like opposite ends of the chess skill spectrum and nl is right in the middle
Imagine having all three in one video.
Levi: Queen F1 you embarrass them. They wonder, why is that not mate?
My 300 elo ass: Why is that not mate?
*notices white bishop*
Oh.
As Morpheus said, "He's beggining to get weird"
"I play so much bullet and then I play 10 minute and I make all my moves in like 3 seconds"
-NL, lying to an International master, 2020
I love levy calling out big words😂
Since the last sesh with Levy I've started watching videos from Levy, Hikaru, the botez sisters and more. I've also gotten back in to chess myself. Today 769 tomorrow 4000. Thanks for the company egg.
I’d recommend Daniel Naroditsky as well, especially his lessons with Cr1tikal are great!
56:01 I can hear Dan shout "YOU IDIOT!" again :D
Ryan, everything is so much better when you take your time. I like how Levy forces you to think things out first. This is great, wholesome content. 2020 was amazing, imagine what 2021 is going to be like. Luna will be saying her first word, you’ll hit 1 million subscribers and we might even get a trailer for that Isaac DLC. 👀
2/3
1:05:33 "I'm trying to get better about leaving stuff unresolved, so you can kind of use it as a pressure point later."
"Holy shit, that's a statement that can be said about relationships too". Lol
I love it when they just banter, Levy needs to come on as a guest on the NLSS or something for sure
I started watching Gotham literally a week before your first collab... and been watching NL for years. What a coincidence
Dude I'm so glad I'm not the only one in this predicament. These collabs came out of nowhere and I'm so into it.
Life is so HARD for me right now, but this EGG makes me happy even if it's just for a few minutes/hours.
Description is absolutely savage. Love it, old-head GMs spreading their knowledge on to the younger generations of player (:
Your personalities mesh so well together. I love it.
MORE.
(this alone seemed a lil too demanding, pls NL, these are gold mines for new chess players and all of us enjoy the chess collabs)
Hell yeah, glad the full VOD got uploaded, I didnt get to watch the stream
Levy would be fantastic on the NLSS, seems like such a personable dude.
I now want podcast of Levy and NL more than anything in the world.
Absolutely pogged to see another of these epis, I stumbled upon Levy separately after NL rekindled my interest in chess and already subbed so seeing more of this collab content is thrilling 😁
I'm glad that Levy came back to teach us some more! I love the dynamic you two have, and it's so cool to see all this.
These are so great NL. Thanks for the consistent and high quality content since the big life change, especially through the holiday season.
Absolutely pogged collab with Levy who has become one of my favorite CZcamsrs.
I love this chess series and the videos with Levy, please keep doing them! ❤️
Watched this live, time to watch it again for the VOD bois. Thank you for the content, Christmas egg!
Dude. This video and banter and next level chess conversation is not only hilarious but super entertaining. Love it.
this is by far the greatest content on this channel! extremely hyped for these lessons
I feel smorter every day I watch these gmaes.
I subbed to GothamChess because of your last collab. I love the dynamic and hope you guys keep doing this.
"noooooooooooo I miss clicked" is honestly the most heart dropping thing I hear almost every single video and it always brings a tear to my eye.
Love the collabs with Levy, great content as always. Thanks Egg
I’m so hype to see another lesson! I really enjoy Levy, and him with NL is so good dynamically. Make our egg daddy stronger Levy!
I’m subbing to Levy because if this btw.
2 hours of Levy and Daddy Egg? Oh lets go
This chess content has been everything I hoped it would be and more. I haven't been able to watch NL much recently because of life but catching up on his chess videos has been one of my favorite things to look forward to lately.
This is great. Hope you keep doing these collabs!
NL, you got me back into chess. Like you I also played it a bunch as a teenager. Unlike you, I still suck. :)
I have little to no knowledge about chess. As a matter of fact, I have no idea what that Netflix series is about (besides being about chess duh). Yet I enjoy these chess videos. I think they have the same appeal as the tactical or strategic fights we see in fiction all the time. Fast, narrated chess matches have a weird appeal and suspense. Your monstrous miss-clicks only add to the enjoyment: the suspense never ends, because egg can always misclick. And when he does, will he be able to stand and defeat his opponent nonetheless?
This is everything I live for.
Levy teaching chess and Ryan teaching memes and long words!
~1:27:50 "For the next lesson" Yess! The saga will continue PogChamp
I love these videos. The best chess and NL content out there.
Would love to see you do this with other IMs/GMs as well! Absolutely top tier content farm for both of you!
When Levy said he lived in New York I thought to myself "oh, I wonder if he knows Rob"
Egg : I dont see the appeal in average player gameplay.
Me , who has watched this single Egg play the same game for 8 years : And I took that personally.
Loving this series so much!
I love that both lessons rossman has been absolutely floored by NL’s vocabulary.
I have so been looking forward to another one of these collabs! UwU this is epically pogalicious :3
Loving the levy lesson videos, yes
I'm loving these collabs
This is so blessed
I dig these lessons and collabs.
I love this friendship developing between levy and esports legend northern
Levy sees an idea and is completely enthralled by it, then NL wakes him up with a sweet sweet blunder. Beautiful.
I’ve gotten into chess thanks to these videos. Thanks NL!
1:12:30 the appealing part is that your moves are easier to understand, than grandmaster's, but you're still very good. This makes the content approachable and educational.
Prepare an ark, for the pogs raining from the heavens will flood the entire world
When he said "we wanna get weird" That is when the like button got smashed!
I didn't think we'd get another crossover! Great content.
Part 2? I'm genuinely pogged
The last game in this video has a really cool vibe to it! Just two people hanging out, talking about life experiences, playing some chess. I'd definitely be down to watching some Ryan v Levy games with that format, maybe with Levy being a piece down or something. Edit: whoops, Levy, not Levi
"with c4 I have the ability to blow up in my opponents face"
I watched it live and wanted to upvote for the algorithm but that damn thumbnail deserves at least a comment. Keep up the great work, NL
"In every attack. Either the pawns have to go first, or the pieces have to go first." International Master level brain.
The Ng5 move was what I saw originally as well, it’s funny how the computer hates the move but it does not have the same thought behind it as a human does. It’s a very beatiful move as you explored in the analysis board. Great, helpful and insightful video!
hyper pogged for another long chess VOD
Northernlion, to avoid misclicks/releases (although they are hilarious), you can just click on a piece and click on the square you want to move it to.
that's what's causing the misclicks, he would be better of by only allowing drag pieces.
@@douglasquaid7550 It's true that what caused him to move is that click, but him dragging back and forth with the Queen at 55:52 had him eventually release his click when he thought he didn't have the Queen selected. Focusing on only clicking would prevent this, maybe hopefully.
@@andersonn I see what you are saying, but I have seen it in other videos aswell, and it is always that he clicks a piece and then clicks a square. Never seen him drag a piece wrong
Already watched live but algorithm
LOVE these videos
I cannot stress this enough boys, Lets Get Wierd
i love how this turned into a check the wire episode in the middle
This is the best duo ever. They are made for each other.
Dude levy is such a good teacher
If I take he takes is available you must capture.
East Coast/West Coast works better in Canada. There are only those handful of teams. From NY there are teams all around them and some are pretty close by
Really enjoying watching someone way better than me at chess learning to be even betterer
Even a year on, I still laugh uncontrollably at the title coupled with the blundered queen in the thumbnail.
with lessons like this, Levy but not the attack on titan levi might reach the status of northernloins grandmaster
52:40 levy becomes a synth, how does he make this noise
1:13:11 this is great it doubles as a podcast almost, that is great to learn
I feel like these two are developing the style of chess that I aspire to.
Fastest like i've ever clicked, these two together are next level
I love watching people play chess that are much much better than me because it's so confusing yet so interesting at the same time
Levy + NL vs Anna + Hafu hand and brain please.
I think the appeal of watching you play chess is your personality as well as watching you grow. We’ve watched you grow in so many games and chess is one with so much room for growth. You being “average” at chess let’s us watch and be able to understand, but also as you learn we are too. I’ve NEVER studied anything chess related, but watching you play I find myself really invested and actually sometimes being able to identify good moves. Then either you do it and I feel smart, or you don’t and I go check the analysis where we find out we were both idiots because your move was a mistake, but mine would have been a blunder.
