Here I show the draft plans for a steampunk touring carriage in the diorama. The diorama takes place in the Lovecraft town of Innsmouth and is melded with steampunk themes.

I just got into dioramas and this is so awesome. Mike you are such an inspiration! Thank you!!!
Thank you. That means a lot to me.
Regarding your last two videos, I watched them both. I found them both interesting for different reasons. I liked the idea of doing two versions.
For the inn, you could allude to it by having a roadsign maybe to show the way to the inn without having the actual building.
Ooh. A sign... That's really interesting. I'm writing that down right now.
Thanks for the plug!
Well deserved. :)
Still Tuesday here on the west coast, count it! This really inspires me to plan more, and paper is such a smart mockup medium. Nice stuff Mike, really excited to see this build progress.
Thank you for that. :)
That's awsome!
Thanks. :)
I like the partial arc canopy idea
I think it's likely to reach the final version.
The maquette is an essential tool for working in 3 dimensional design development. That said, the maquette you have done totally helps me to visualize the over-all direction you are headed. Great job! The water feature will definitely add a lot to the Dio. Keep on in the direction you're headed. It's really beginning to take shape. Regards, Solomon
Thanks. I'm finding I want to do more and more planning with every project. I definitely missed some things in the Orc Display Board so more planning this time. ;) Oh, and thanks for reminding me that it's called a maquette.
very cool looking sir
Thanks.
If possible, and if you do take a look at this video again, please, just don’t forget to give the carriage’s wheels spokes. It just makes it all the better for realism and immersion’s sake. At this point, I assure you they have a means of making spoked wheels. I don’t want for it to ultimately be a hassle, but it is something you might want to consider.
I agree on ditching the water section. It looks good on theory, but it's too...wholesome(?).
I like the idea of a partial cover over the riders in the back. Make it leather so it's protecting them from the smoke/steam. For the elevator, why not make it one long platform on one track that elevates both the driver seat and a passenger lift?
The long platform is an interesting idea. I'll keep that in the back of my mind. Need to do some tweaking on the charrabanc so that might be a good solution. In the story, our protagonist sits behind the driver and studies his distorted visage in detail. Maybe moving up the driver is an option then.
Noooooo! The underwater is a must. You can do it. You're the best. Rawr! It's worth the extra weeks/months! Please reconsider.
I think it just adds to much to the piece, and not just work wise. I think it will make it too busy. But it is something I would very much like to do at some point so I'll be looking to work something like that into some future project. :)
Wondering if you are considering using (real) brass for the carriage's chassis and trim pieces (soldering where needed) vice achieving the desired metal effects via paints? I'm possibly jumping the gun, but I visualize a mostly black/or dark-toned carriage with brass or copper metal effects; potentially with the steam-engine components being made of copper and the expensive metal bits, baubles and trims being made of brass. Curious is all, I'm excited that you are excited to get building.
I haven't ruled out some soldering and metal work but I'll avoid it if I can. My soldering skills, while much improved over the past few years, are not finely skilled.
I picked up a book years ago which might be handy if you can track a copy down. 'Carriages' (Pleasures and Treasures) by Jacques Damase pub. by Weiderfeld & Nicolson. 1968.
Thanks for the suggestion.
An funny omni-bus, driver plus an engineer up back they can communicate via a ships link( tube with two brass cones).
I thought about an engineer in the back but decided against it. I think I have my hands full as it is. :)
How does the tour bus make a sharp turn? Does it lift the middle wheels, are they dragged sideways or are the front wheel and the middle wheels placed on a separate bogey? (They look like they are too big to be placed on a bogey.)
I'm not sure really... :) Others have this same question... I'll give this more thought.
you forgot the link to the "resin cast" video
Thank you for pointing that out. I just added it.
driver could have a latter like on farm equipment
That might be a good way to go.
well arkham to bads not a bat mas seen you do the in back ground arkham asylum and how did do the barels ? and no boozzz this time ok to me the steet does not look wide enuf or the boxes and barles are in whay
The charrabanc is likely to get more narrow so that should help with the having space on the road.
Bummed about no deep ones...
Well, I'm thinking that if I expand the water a little bit -- needed just for aesthetic reasons -- I might be able to slip one in. :) I found a great mini I would love to get into the piece if I can. But no promises.
