My name is Christian Swenson. I'm a 29-year old autistic man with interests in philosophy, art history, and all sorts of things. I made this channel to talk about the experience of autism from an autistic perspective. Autistic consciousness isn't normal consciousness. The autistic world isn't the normal world. I want to explore that world with you.
I love Kandinsky! I was drawn to one of his paintings that was used as a cover on a book of music, though I didn't realise he had synesthesia and made those connections between art and music.
Very surprised to hear that line at 8:20, because I recognize it. The DCI group Boston Crusaders used this text in their 2004 show "The Composition of Color", you can probably find it on CZcams. I was always a fan of Kandinsky, and I happen to be in that DCI group for a couple of years, and had no clue of the connection. 😮
Perfect timing for this video. For some reason the connection between synesthesia and autism had been on a loop in my head this past week and was curious of your thoughts on the topic.
So glad I found this. Had no idea Kandinsky even existed, never seen his art before. I have Synesthesia and to some degree ASD. For me sound triggers sensations of motion which lets me see the shape of sound, as in the patterns and fluid motion of it's geometry in three dimensional space, and secondarily I map that out with colour. Music, and jazz especially, create the most intricate tapestry of forms, colour, and patterns. When you lifted up that Kandinsky painting it felt like I could hear it. Never experienced that with other artists before, not that I really know too many or have studied anyone's work, but that was really fascinating. Will be diving deeper into kandinsky. thank you for this video!
