People often ask about what they can do to better take care of their eyes. In this video, Dr. Allen shares 3 health tips to improve your eyes and prevent health conditions from progressing. If you value your eye health and eyesight, then incorporating these health tips should be helpful.
After a routine eye exam, these are the top 3 tips I like to discuss so that people can take better care of their eyes and prevent vision loss. The first thing is to eat healthy. The retina in the back of the eye is the most highly metabolic tissue in the body and requires a lot of antioxidants to protect itself from oxidative damage and inflammation. Green leafy vegetables are rich in Lutein which has been found to be great for your eyes.

Wearing sunglasses and protecting the eyelids from sunlight damage by wearing a wide brimmed hat can also help reduce eye strain as well as prevent future eye disease from UV light exposure.

I also encourage people to clean their eyelashes on a daily basis. That is because a lot of people neglect to clean their eyelids and eyelashes and it is common to see inflammation of the eyelids and dry eye as a result.

Which part of this video did you find the most helpful? What other videos would you like to see?
I found all of it very useful!! Have a question , can you take the supplements like lutein to avoid getting any diseases of the eye . Along with leafy greens of course!
Found it all super useful. Would be really keen to see more of the nutrition stuff and also a video on how to really gradually phase off from steroid drops as it seems like just as soon as I come off mine (I’m only on a very mild 0.5%) all my redness and irritation come straight back
Any glasses review comin?
Maybe how to adjust your eyes quicker to the dark when you need to get up in the middle of the night without turning any lights on? (eg: toilet or strange noises?)
Or...why when it's dark, you can see objects better by looking left or right?
Looking forward to a future video on myopia control
Very interesting. When I changed my diet after a mild heart attack, my annual eye exams continuously showed improvement requiring a new script. Kiddingly, I told my ophthalmologist that it must be the carrots, and he said it was more likely the spinach. Thanks for this great information!
Never knew eyelashes did anything except shade our eyes. They have a much more important job than that.
Love this Doc. I'll be sharing. This is what I tell my patients, each and every one. Great advice for all.
Thanks Dr for all your advice. The entire video was very helpful. I do clean my eyelids everyday and this has helped me a lot.
I already cleanse my lids and lashes and wear sunglasses so I loved your tip for eating more leafy greens! I’ve been a little slack in making my green smoothies in my Vitamix blender. Time to start blending again!🤗
Thanks for your educational videos, they are loaded with great information and they are short and to the point ❤
I like the fact that dark green leafy vegetables are good for the eyes. I love salads and all vegetables. So that is a plus since I eat plenty of them. Found the sunlight protection helpful as well as keeping my eyelids clean, which I do. Thanks for the great videos and handsome smiles. 😎
Thanks for making this video doc
All 3 tips are helpful. Thank you for sharing.
Great video doc, very interesting thank you for this topic and tips 💙
Love these tips especially #3!!
Good to know! Thanks so much!
Thanks for sharing these tips Dr. Allen. Sub'd!
Thanks for sharing g the proactive tips for eye care
Thanks for putting in the bit about food, and various supplements. I'll be looking forward to hearing more about that in the future! :)
Thank you for this, because I was never told by my eye drs or specialists to Eat the leafy greens--they push the pills instead of healthy diets. Thank you for your honesty. I love my leafy greens & control my health by diet thankfully ❤
Since watching your channel I've already started wearing sunglasses more often and doing a warm compression almost every night (I have dry eyes). I might be imagining things but my eyes do feel better and safer. So thank you for that!
I would definitely like to see a video on nutrition for eye health.
That's great, Sophia! Glad to hear they're feeling a bit better :)
Thanks very much GOD Bless
Great tips! Cleaning eye lid is a surprise for me and will improve my eye hygiene alert a lot on those eyelashes dirt. Thanks, you are very good eye 👀 specialist! Learn a lot from your channel than other scary one.
Always love your tips tools and smile my friend kept up the great work
Thanks 👍 I appreciate that.
im really thankful for this
Thanks doctor for free advice, best explained video....
Thanks Doc! Nice tips, I have never cleaned my eyes other than washing my face. I do once in a while put aloe over most of my face including my eyes.
I got freaked out when you were cleaning your eyes. Generally, because I have mutated mucous membranes I tend to brush my teeth carefully, but enjoyably, avoiding another oral cancer scare. It took me a while to get used to it. Using that device with the brush on the end on your eye reminded me of teeth-brushing, so I just want to say I think you definitely need to only clean your eye slowly, and enjoyably if possible. That's my theory for not accidentally hurting myself further anyhow. Also, more nutritional science will be much appreciated in future, thanks Dr. Allen!
I'm using a eyelid wash that that the eye doctor recommended and you confirmed. I have puffy eye bags all of the sudden which I was told is inflammation from a sinus infection. I was told the inflammation stays in the body longer than the infection itself. But it seems to be really hanging in there and my vision is compromised. I will revisit some of your videos to see if this was addressed. Thank you for your kind service.
Thank you so much🙏🙏
thank you doctor!
Very interesting and informative. Love you.
I am looking forward to your food and eye health series.
Thanks for this. Like the tip about the greens best. Easy to make a smoothie. What specifically do you recommend cleaning the eyelids?
I cannot wait to see your video regarding eye vitamins.
Excellent info as always!
Glad you think so! Thank you!
Thanks so much for your wonderful tips....I always appreciate your valuable information on eyes.
You are so welcome! Thanks Parvin!
Thanks doc for this interesting tips.. Good day doc...
I did not know about the cleaning part! 😬
Thanks a lot!
You’re welcome 😊
Awesome information doc!!
Glad it was helpful!
Very helpful I find it very beneficial to my eye health needs
All of it was very informative
I am nearsighted and I recently saw an ad that popped up about a eye vision supplement. In the follow up video you mentioned can you please review the product Sight Care, its ingredients and if products like these are really too good to be true. Thanks in advance for being so informative.
ALL to the tips in this video were helpful to me. I learned more in this 5 minute video than I've learned from going to the eye doctor for the past 20 years! Something's wrong with that picture.
I really like the Myboclean Brush and gel to keep my eyelashes clean. I wake up sometimes with crusty eyelashes and if I don't clean them in the morning, I'll get irritation all day. The brush just cleans it all away within seconds and the gel is so soothing.
Glad you're liking it! I use this as well and like it so far.
Hi, thank you for the great tips as always! I have a quick question about contact lenses. I have been using a standard hydrogel lens for years, and recently tried upgrading, so I decided to try Biotrue and Precision 1. I find that both, with the same prescription aren't quite as sharp as my old contacts for things far away. When I put one of each lens in my eyes I also find that my eyes switch between which one looks sharper from left to right eye when Biotrue and Precision 1 are in each eye. My question is, do eyes need time to adjust to the optical properties of new lenses? Or is it to to do with the size of the optical zone being bigger on my old lens maybe? I noticed I had this issue last year when trying a different brand of SiHy lenses Vs my old ones, but after three days of wearing the SiHy lenses my vision started to get sharper, but I always seem to find my old lenses are the sharpest. Main reason I wanted to upgrade is for end of day dryness which leads to blurred vision at night with my old lenses.
What are your views on palming to relax the eyes? More about supplements and which ones are the best. Great video.
Having a regular daily eyelid hygiene is very important! After PRK i got Blepharitis and since then i always have wipes for cleaning my eyelids.
Thank you God bless you
Very good situations need your reminder thanks
Thanks and welcome! Please let me know how else I can help!
Love the tips!
Glad you like them!
I really enjoy salads and green beans etc. I lived close to the ocean in Southern California and learned about the value of sunglasses at all times. What I hadn’t appreciated was even with removing my eye makeup I need to do a better job of it. Thank you Doctor 👍
You're welcome! Thanks, Susan. I'm glad you're taking care of your eyes. Here's a video I did on washing the eyelashes that you might find helpful: czcams.com/video/Aa5pQFJCMY8/video.html
Tnx a lot
Thank u Doctor
Looking forward to the eye supplement video. I've wondered if it's an investment or a waste
Great video Doc. I had always believed that carrots are really good for your eye health until now. Never thought about the leafy greens though. And with number 3, even though I do wash my eyes regularly just with water throughout the day because I don't like getting dust or stuff in them, I didn't think about the other methods you spoke about. I'll keep an eye out for them! Cheers.
Carrots still are good but they are not as "amazing" for the eyes as people often believe.
@@DoctorEyeHealth I have higher myopia with cylindrical number.
What would be your suggestion for me.
Should I take Vitamin A supplement ?
And any other exercises
@@jatinsharma5024 what's your cylindrical power
Carrots are better than junk food 4 sure. I use baby wipes. Kale and spinach in all I cook, if its green its going in, I even have been known to eat a bag of spinach like crisps/chips.
Your videos have helped my eye health get through dry eyes and pass lasik as well👆👍☝🙏
That's amazing! Thanks for sharing Hector.
Thnx Doc..I like much eating green, leafy veggie & Fruits too.
Very good
Can you talk about neuropathic eye pain and it’s relation to dry eyes?
I didn’t realize how crappy my eyes were feeling in the mornings until I started cleaning them every night and noticing how good they felt in the mornings! I had never woken up without puffiness/itching until then and just didn’t know they could feel any different 😬
How did you clean them?
@@Dina-ux8sm baby shampoo is normally recommended.. but let's see what she uses
What do you clean with
I followed a lot of his recommendations… but I used wipes (a few different kinds) and then switched mainly to the Myboclean for the past 6 months or so and I LOVE it!
@@ChicagoIL50 I think baby shampoo is an outdated rec now
hello dec nice video.
i wanna ask, what do you think about VDM prohect cure eye floaters ?
Can you show us part 2?
I mean going through all this with a patient then compare before and after!
I, 59 had dry eyes for years. After cleaning the eyelashes on a daily basis, my dryeye syndorm vanished. Save a lot of money now.
Cool. Really sunglasses helps
I always clean my eye lashes, so it's really cool to hear how important that is to do. I'll keep an eye on it.
Great to hear!
Any advice for palonopsia? Or light and after images that stay in your vision?
Hello, this video was very good, I would like to see your video on eye vitamins.😀
Coming soon!
I bought the eye lid cleaning tool already. I have an issue where my vision is blurred. The dr told me it was a film on my eye itself. Would using the machine help with cleaning this film as well? Or is there something else I can use to clean that part of my eye?
So i wear specs and when I see my room without specs it is kind of scary for me. I searched for exercises for the eyes and started doing them recently. But after going through your videos, I realised that i need to change my diet as well.
Thanks for the help.
Very nice and informative
Thanks!
Please make a video on how sinuses affect eye health and how to treat it…
Thanks 👍👍👍👍👍👍
No problem 👍 thanks for watching
thanks doc

I really want to improve my eyesight. Specs are making it only worse, i thought specs will improve but it's not. So I'm gonna yse these tips from now on and wait to remove my glasses completely. Thanks a lot Doctor.
I'm gonna keep you as my personal eye doctor🥰
@doctoreyehealth whats that green light you put on your eyes to clean your lashes and where can I purchase it?
We need the detailed nutrition video! Coming from a dude in his 20s with serious retina prpblems!
Yes! Several videos coming up over the summer.
Has there been a video done on double vision? I have double vision and reading glasses prescribed by my doctor does not correct my double vision. Would appreciate your views on this if possible.
Super sir
Hey doc! Tips about keratoconos
My eyes have been hurting for last 7 months. At one point they were throbbing and felt really bruised. I have had an overnight huge increase in floaters, like a storm.
No info on anterior floaters online. I know they're not vitreous floaters bc optometrist and dr. looked at them.
It seems to just be the front half of my eyes, also when they hurt, they become very bloodshot and floaters become more pronounced.
My sinuses right behind my nose hurts or feels inflamed in correlation to the eye pain. No mucus, no infection.
Optometrist and Dr. Thought I was healthy, didn't see anything wrong with me. On the days I saw the Dr's, my eyes felt really good though.
I've been putting off seeing the ophthalmologist bc I feel like he will not see anything wrong.
Had a question. Since having retina detachment surgery do you recommend any thing I could do to help my sight ? Eye Vitamins ? I eat many salads (greens) and take Zinc, which I read is good for your eyes. My sight has not come back much yet. Very blurry. Its 3 weeks since surgery. I have 3 more weeks until I get my check up. Ive been so paranoid and have so many questions.
Awesome
How I can recovery my retina of my right eye? I had chorioretinitis and because of it I have pain, membrane detached in corpus vitreous and hyperpigmentation in my right eye
Doctor can you help me out with a situation. I wore glasses that were having low prescription from that prescribed by my doctor for a year. After that I had an eye check up and started wearing the glasses prescribed by the doctor but I was having headache, unable to focus even after wearing it for 8 months. What is happening I am unable to understand?
Hi have you looked into the endmyopia method, if so what do you think bout it
Dr. Allen, can you do a video on Macular Degeneration? I have it as do my 2 sisters. They have been told it's non-treatable but the Retina Specialist I'm seeing is treating mine with monthly injections. Apparently there are 2 kinds? Judging from how packed the waiting room is, it must be pretty common. Some clarity from you would be much appreciated.
Yes! Hope this helps. czcams.com/video/USIG_KjlvNs/video.html
My Question is - I'm a daily contact wearer person having uv filters in it( acuvue vita for astigmatism) .
So do I have to wear a separate sunglasses while going outside.
Hello Doctor,I'm 15 and started wearing glasses two weeks ago.I wear 100.25 or 1.25 idk and I'm farsighted. After wearing glasses all day the things I usually see clearly became blurry. What should I do doctor? And do I have to wear it all the time?the doctor said I can only stop wearing glasses when I do eye surgery at age 20.Is there anything I can do to stop wearing glasses?

everyone can't eat lots of green leaf veggies due to blood disorder and taking Coumadin. any other foods that help in similar manner? also what is the name of the instrument you use in this video for cleaning eyes in particular the lashes. thanks
I never knew that I should be cleaning my eyelids and eyelashes. WhT should I use.?
Can eye strain mimic droopy eyelids? Can I get temp droopy eyelids from excessive screen usage ?
Good
Doesn't showering daily and cleaning your eye lids keep them clean? Another question, I had open heart surgery 20 days ago and my vision is now more blurry. Any ideas? I do have some cataracks. Could they have been made worse from the surgery?
Doctor, is there any kind of imaging used in the eye to see the possible cause of eye discomfort? I’m 21 years old and my post COVID infection eyes so extremely dry now. My eye dilation exam looks unremarkable, but is there imaging I could request that would be even better?
Dilation would do nothing to check for eye discomfort related to dry eyes. Some other types of testing could reveal severe dry eyes. For example, your doctor may "stain" your eyes with a certain eye drop and look at your cornea with the microscope to check for damage to your cornea. Also, other tests (Schirmer's strips) will reveal if you produce enough tears.
I like leafy greens it helps with glaucoma
Is castor oil good for dry eyes plz?
I have myopia and cylinder eye glass , when I look phone text with eye glass these text are seeing double in my right eye . I wear it 6 months.Still seeing double phone text in darkmode . How do you think of my glasses. May be wrong myopia degree?
Hi doc lam 70 year's old I use eye drops for right eye persure is under control Iwant to if I can use tadalafl for eration and dose it harmful for my eye if any advise from you thanks
I wish you were my eye doc! Where are you located? I had the meanest eye doc yesterday in southern cali. He basically yelled at me for thinking something was wrong with my eye when there wasn’t. I have lattice degeneration and my right eye retina detached so I’m healing from that. Of course I’m worried about my good eye. Do you have any tips for lattice degeneration? Or healing tips for detached retina with pneumatic retinopexy. Thanks for your time!!
Wow thanks Heather. Sorry to hear you had a less than desirable experience with your last exam. I practice at the PineCone Vision Center in Sartell, MN. I wish I had something to recommend for lattice or healing after pneumatic retinopexy, but I really don't have much. What did your retina doctor say?
Sir any treatment of RP diseases

Nice one sir ...
Btw Whats the best way to maintain eye health when u do lots of work mostly from ur smartphone device online ?
Frequent breaks from your desk/work. Getting good movement and looking into the distance through a window or going for a walk is a good habit. For some people at high risk of eye diseases I have talked about blue light filtering glasses as a possible defense (evidence is mixed at this time). Monitoring for dry eye/MGD signs and symptoms are also important as many people don't blink enough when on digital devices.
@@DoctorEyeHealth thanks for the info ... will practice it
