    If niacin/NR/NMN (to boost NAD+) helps, I'd expect that other mitochondrial boosters such as CoQ10 and red/near-infrared light would also help. It seems like a ton of problems get better when mitochondrial health improves. Everything that increases ATP production enhances cellular repair ability.

    I take exception to the notion that patient safety in this instance is maximized by not recommending B3 to glaucoma patients - there is widespread use of NR/NMN and other B3 precursors or variants and numerous studies showing it is quite safe in high doses. Why isn’t patient safety here better served by recommending B3 to glaucoma patients and possibly limiting their retinal degradation (with little to no risk) rather than being “cautious” about a natural vitamin essential to NAD production? I just don’t get this - vision is hugely important to people and in this instance it seems to me the harm over being cautious doesn’t balance out with the risks.

I do not like the idea of having my eyeball cut on. I've seen the video's, and its not something I'm ready to do right now. I'm using a couple different combination eye supplements, Neuroptene and Eye Vision Guard (Piping Rock). I ordered the Nicotinamide capsules and will start taking those as well. Anything to avoid eye surgery. I also use castor oil, in and on the eyes at bedtime. I was using Lantanaprost drops Rx, but my goodness, the side effects were making my vision worse. The flashy zig zag in my vision, leading me to headaches, also light sensitivity was terrible, I couldn't stand being out in the sun, or lights in the grocery store, dry eye. SMH. Praying and hoping these supplements work together.

    Interesting. I don't have glaucoma, but my dermatologist has some patients take Niacinamide - a version of B3 shown in studies to reduce the chance of a NM skin cancer in those who have already had one. The research was specific to Niacinimide and not Niacin. It would be interesting to see if a particular version of B3 is better than another for glaucoma patients. Thanks for the interesting video.

      Bet you don’t want to try 1000 mg of niacin! You would pick the flush less niacinimide.

    • @DanildFlamme
      @DanildFlamme Před 6 měsíci +6

      @@lucyvaughan7757 If you take the flush-version of Niacin, after a while you " appear" to gradually build up a bit of "resistance" to the flush-effect. So if you build up the dose over time, it is possible to do it... Maybe start with 30 mg, and build up slowly. As long as you don't mind a bit of flushing (I honestly kind of semi-like the flush effect now, as long as it is not too strong). And yes, I have tried taking over 1000 mg of niacin before, so it IS possible.
      Of course, if it doesn't matter which type of B3, then it would be easier with a no-flush version. But even if it does matter, it is still managable.

    Your videos are very informative, and I like the way you keep up-to-date on current trends and research. As for vitamin B3/niacin, it appears that it is not recommended that people take supplemental B3 due to its many side effects, eg it can also also raise IOL in those with Glaucoma. I have moderate glaucoma, which is being controlled by my glaucoma specialist, and of course, I will ask him if he has heard about the niacin connection; however, I will definitely ask him if he is aware of the new studies in the cataract lenses this, it is amazing news for me as I await cataract surgery next year. Very good info - especially the background of optic nerve, energy, mitochondria, and the from there, B3. Rather than just "take this twice a day".
    My question is - while this talk is on glaucoma, yet how B3 works to help mitochondria is surely more generic in benefits? So B3 + pyruvate would be helpful even to non-glaucoma folks? Could it be that industrial production and refining of foods, is stripping us of these, whereas caveman would have more nutrients by eating raw foods? Or perhaps artificial lighting, stress, toxins, high carb high sugar, etc, is causing depletion.
    A related question is - those doses look high, but is for trying to arrest or reverse damage. What about those without macular degeneration? Can we make do with, say, half that dose? I ask this because at 3g, there will be lots of flushing and itching. Or maybe split into 3 x 1g per day, rather than a big hit.

      Don't be overly afraid of cataract surgery. I've had it done in both eyes. It's more like a light show than anything else. It's painless and you can see clearly right after it, which is wonderful. Most people get cataracts. They operate after the cataract has a chance to ripen or develop to the point where it must be easier to remove. Then they insert a fake lens, which is all painless. It was nothing compared to glaucoma surgery.

      Most side effects can be avoided by only using pure niacin (Nicotinic Acid) Avoid all slow release and nicotinamide. The flush is not dangerous and some think it could be beneficial. Taking in the evening right before bed seems to make the flush less intense for some reason.

    would the B3 form nicotinic acid be as effective over b3 nicotinamide? I prefer using nicotinac acid because of the flushing and redness of skin that it causes, this way I know that this form is working when it has the effect of relaxing the blood vessels allowing better blood flow.

      Nicotinic acid is the ONLY form of niacin you should take. Humans cannot convert the other forms to NAD+ due to the pries handler pathway (we are not made like rodents in this respect so studies are incorrect). I take upto 4grams every day, it’s incredible stuff and will keep you fit, strong and healthy for many many years to come.

    I was told the retina once damaged can't repair itself. Are you telling me that in some patients taking B3 has repaired some damaged areas of the retina?
    The reason I'm asking is I take an a bunch of different supplements. And my eye doctor is smiling telling me to not change what ever om doing. Is it possible that B3 could be playing factor in helping my Glaucoma ?

      You never know, it may have been a lot worse if you hadn't been taking it. The good news is that if you have glaucoma in its early stages, you are able to keep your optic nerve intact. Even if it has experienced some minor damage, it does not impede your frontal vision, so you are fully protected if you regularly use prescribed eye drops to maintain your eye pressure under control and keep your optic nerve safe from any further damage. Simply pick a reputable/competent opthamologist and continue to get regular eye exams, and you will be fine.

    • @poornimawagh9315
      @poornimawagh9315 Před 23 dny +1

      Yolks are high in vitamin D (which is a steroidal hormone NOT a vitamin). Vitamin D is also a POTENT tissue remodeler (all connective tissue which includes nerves). This is why it might make sense to eat egg yolks as vitamin D3 might be what is causing the tissue remodeling and regeneration of the optic nerve???

      Yes, I heard of it before covid and now nothing. I think high eye pressure is diabetes of the eye but they don't want to tell us that. How can it be so different from diabeticneuropathy which is damage to the blood vessels of the retina which are right there close to the optic nerves? Isn't that caused by high blood sugar spikes? Funny I see a relationship there that doctors don't want us to figure out. Imagine all the business they'd lose if we controlled our blood sugar and eye damage through diet, vitamins and minerals!

    What is the difference between Niacinamide and this?

    • @roxyiconoclast
      @roxyiconoclast Před 7 měsíci +1

      Niacinamide is a form of vitamin B3 that has fewer side effects, such as flushing.

    • @darcyyoung1462
      @darcyyoung1462 Před 6 měsíci +2

      Because of "flushing" (red face, itch), Niacinamide and "slow release" Niacin were created. But specific to lowering triglycerides and cholesterol, they also didn't work, while Niacin worked. Worse, slow release was found to potentially cause liver problems. Solve one problem, create another.
      The way to overcome the "flushing" effect is to go slow. Start small, build tolerance, then increase. It may take 6 weeks of such gradual increase. Going by memory (rusty) I think 2g is when it shows effects on triglycerides. I didn't go to that level, because another way to control trigylcerides is low carb / paleo.
