  • Was a little slow for me at first, but managed to beat the skunk. We fished around the Long Beach Harbor hitting up the oil islands. I caught my first fish on a 3.8-inch keitech on a 1/2oz viking head weed guard jig. Didn't have much luck afterwards until I switched over to the red hookup bait and started to land some good size sand bass.

Nice set up man! I like your boat! I’m going to be setting up mine soon as well. What type of mat material are you using to cover the floor, if you don’t mind sharing?

Thanks man! I recommend checking out oside kayak guy or fishing with sosa on Instagram. They might have some discount codes for the Scout Inflatables. It’s just a non slip bath mat with suction cups underneath. I’m not too sure what the material is though

Those inflatable boats are bad ass I’ve seen some at Costco but without the motor instead you have to paddle would you say those would work good to use around their and maybe at lakes also ?

Hmm I’m not too sure about those cheaper ones. Some of the higher end inflatables have thicker PVC materials or multiple air chambers so they’re usually a bit more pricier, but more worth it. I’d say you can paddle around the harbor and lakes too

I've never seen hookup baits fished the way you do it. You just lift your rod and let it fall and let it sit there? or do you slowly reel it back? I'm normally hopping it off the bottom, faster than how you fish it.

Yeah I pretty much lift my rod up, let it fall, and let is sit there. I’ve had the most luck that way. I think most of the action of the hookup bait comes from the way it falls zig zag onto the ground. I get a lot of my bites mid-fall or right when it hits the bottom. I also let it sit there for about 5-10seconds to give the fish some time to come check it out or to eat it. This is something that’s worked for me, but I’m sure there’s other ways to fish it. Do you have a lot of luck with your method?

@@CatchFishNotFeelingsYT That makes sense. My way works but obviously it’s a faster way of fishing it. i will have to try your slower retrieve. thanks!
