- On the Indonesian island of Sulawesi, the Torajan people believe that a person is not truly dead until water buffalo have been sacrificed at their funeral, serving as the vehicle to the afterlife. Until that time, the bodies are may be kept at the family's home for weeks, months or years and are fed and cared for as if they were alive. Some Torajans continue their relationship with the dead through a ma'nene' ceremony, a type of "second funeral" in which families bring out their ancestors every few years and change their clothes and clean their bodies and crypts.

One needs to simply grieve and then move on.

there’s no such thing as “moving on” when it comes to a loved one dying
@@afonsoegonu3364 Yeah there is. You can't be sad forever
I lost my uncle couple weeks back. He lives 5000 miles away from me, but whenever I was there to see him, we always loved and enjoyed each others company. We rarely spoke on phone as we had an unwritten code that we would really talk on phone as it will remind us of eachother then we will feel sad, so in order not to feel sad we rarely talked on phone.
Now he is gone and its still unreal to me. But at the same time I know it was his time. So I havnt properly cried yet or anything. As I'm talking about this now I feel sad but at same time, what can I do? I can't bring him back and crying will not bring him back.

Fascinating how well preserved they are, especially in the beginning of the video. Is there a process they're doing to halt decomposition, or is it the climate? I wouldn't anticipate it to be very hot or dry there so I'm curious how they mummify.
It's quite close to the equator and seeing they're surrounded by forests I'd hazard a guess that it's very hot and humid. Australia's hottest states which have only wet and dry season are in the north and are hot enough for tropical fruit to grow, and these people live further north than Australia, closer still to the equator

Actually, dead bodies are generally not hazardous at all to living people (all over the world, not just in indonesia!), unless the person died from something like the black plague, where pathogens may still remain on the body.
