Toyota can’t get their SHIFT together… Serious Transmission Problems for the 2024 Tacoma!

- Toyota just can’t seem to get their shift together… the new 2024 Toyota Tacoma has been a big fail right from the start. Between the countless quality control issues with fit and finish, panels gaps, questionable powertrain and production location… it’s been a disappointment for many. But now we have yet another serious problem. Faulty transmissions! The 2024 Toyota Tacoma is experiencing some serious transmission problems, many having reported: howling transmission, harsh gear shifts, losing gears, inability to shift and full up transmission failure. This is happening on brand new Tacomas with less then 4000
Miles on them. Kind of crazy to see Toyota experience issues like this on their iconic pickup.
Some owners are pursuing a lemon law buy back for their 2024 Toyota Tacomas. Between this and the huge price tag, I think it’s safe to assume it’s best to wait a couple years before trying to buy one. Same goes for the Toyota Tundra.
What are your thoughts on this? Is this acceptable? Do you think Toyota will remedy the situation quick?
Thanks for watching as always. Be sure to Like and Subscribe if you haven’t already, thank you!

New 4 cylinder engine + New transmission + Mexican made = Piece of Junk
Transmission are not made in Mexico
They are junk. I traded my 24 SR5 4x4 for a lightly used 23 off-road premium. Lack of power, issues with the key not being detected and issues with the 4x4 engaging and disengaged . I saw the writing on the wall.
@@IzaguirreCtell me where your 2023 Tacoma is made in..
@@Felix-qh2uk issues were either the 24 not the 23. It’s made in Mexico, haven’t noticed a difference from my prior Texas made Tacoma
They are not made in Mexico the motor and transmission and most of the other parts are made in America they are just assembled in Mexico
Hard to believe Toyota has f’d up this bad.
Its hard to believe that people still are buying these new Tacomas and Tundras paying these ridiculous prices!
Fan boiz gonna fan.
Because there are a lot of stupid people in the world.

There used to be 3 guarantees in life. Death, Taxes, and Reliable Toyotas. Now we're left with Death and Taxes.
And my trusty 37 year old Nissan
That's why the saying always mentioned just death and taxes.
Just stick with old Toyotas... I'm living in a 2000 Sienna minivan
@@Network126 Have no intentions of getting rid of my old Toyota. Best vehicle I've ever owned.
I love my 20 Tundra
Geez man Toyota is making Ford look more appealing
Nah, now it just makes you sad because now there isn't anyone that's good now.
Nissan must be loving this. If I was in the Tacoma market, I would definitely buy the Frontier over the new Tacoma.
Same, by a mile. Even if you had the money to splurge for a new Tacoma, screw that, do you know how much cool aftermarket shiz you could do to your Frontier for the price difference!?
Frontier and titan (last year) are the go to trucks currently since Toyota dropped the ball hard on both the Tundra and Tacoma. Frontier is also a true V6 NA.
@@SliderFury1 Totally agree!
@@IzaguirreC Exactly. Can't beat the NA V6.
Frontier is said to consumer reports to have transmission issues as well. It’s down there amongst the least reliable vehicles (for at least 2023/4)
Looks like i made the right call buying a new 5 th gen 4runner.
Mine is payed off and I’ll never sell it. It starts every time and has never let me down
My cousin has a 1996 that still runs great
5th gen 4Runner is the move and will retain its value
1gr fe and 5 speed are bullet proof
Just bought one...😅😂 I've sat in 2024 Tacos and the new Landcruisers and it's just not for me. Gen 5 4Runner is the way to go!
Keep making these videos man, Toyota needs to hear from its biggest fans that they are not going in the right direction.
The rise of the Nissan Frontier
Frontier has always been a better truck. Toyota dick riders fail to realize that
Toyota isn't the company they used to be, but a lot of people will have to learn that the hard way. Same with Honda for that matter.
Toyota USA, Japan uses different drive train
This generation of Toyota trucks are designed in the US. Americans f'ing up things again.
I hope nobody is planning to do heavy towing with this truck
Its amazing how we predicted all this, even though it is happening faster than could be imagined.
Do you have any evidence of people predicting transmission issues?
I'm still driving my 2003 Tacoma (bought in 04), haven't had a payment in more than 17 years. I do want to upgrade. Maybe an 05 Tacoma, LOL.
I still have my 2004 Tacoma reg cab 4x4 auto with 108,000 miles and will keep even if I get another newer truck....Thinking about a Nissan
How Toyota treats their customers with the Tundra and Tacoma will determine if I ever buy a truck from them in the future.
So far, it doesn't look good. They didn't recall the hybrid Tundras because the electric motor can limp the truck to the shoulder if the engine fails.
Awesome comment. I've not seen anybody express this before.
Aint good buddy better to buy the old reliable bullets.
Company went from making reliable trucks to expensive paper weights/lawn ornaments for your driveway. They will probably have to give lifetime warranties and free rentals to move these (so you have something to drive during the transmission/engine replacements and other repairs).
How the hell do you screw up a manual transmission?
Really bad quality bro. Bad design causes the overheating and wear on it.
The engineers know best! Just put some 0w 8 oil and a turbo 4 banger.
That’s all you need!
That's what I was thinking. A manual is basic technology that has been around for decades. Nothing complicated. That tells me they cut corners and costs big time and used extremely cheap parts.
@@CarShopping10137 year old original trans in my Nissan D21. 428,000 miles. Never out of the frame. We've had this technology over 40 years now. No excuses big T.
Ask Mazda. Manual transmission in current-gen Miata is self-destructing within 20K miles. No fix. Just a replacement transmission with the same defect.
Toyota had better get their 💩 together, the board should start with the new CEO, it seems that their problems started when he was appointed a few years back.
The shareholders wanted this lol people are still buying 😂
@@patgarrett9454Not their trucks.

You're one of the best advocates against what Toyota is doing, which includes price gouging and cutting corners on quality and reliability. Thanks for continuing to shed light on their bad business practices and the reliability of the new Tacoma. Strongly considering buying a brand new Chevrolet Colorado Trail Boss for $36,500 pre tax. Can't even get a 2wd SR5 for that price, it's nuts.
You go right ahead & good luck to you with that GM junk. Untamed is a bitter CZcamsr that profits off of Toyota problems now, it’s his new niche…just bitching from Toyota lots. TOYOTA WTF starts building junk and overpriced 4-cylinder trucks.
It didn't just start. They came up with this overpriced turkey as a replacement for the third generation that drove like junk.
I’ll never get rid of by 2021 LC 200 HE! Toyota needs to bring back the old engines and transmissions.
And factory lockers too right… at least in your case. Lol

Same here! I also have a 2021 LC200 and never selling it. I also have a 2023 GX460 and not selling that. I’ve thought about the LX600, but just can’t take the risk. We have old school reliability and amazing engineering, hard to get better than the LC200!
Sure wish I had purchased one
New Frontier all day! Ik someone with a moving business and all his trucks have been frontiers since 2008. He has new 2022’s and 2024 frontiers with zero issues.
2022 pro4x with 59k miles so far, been a great truck. I taken it from Texas to Miami round trips and it never gave problems.
Nissan had a transmission recall done this year already so out of luck their too lol
Nissan did have a recall for the parking pawl on some first year 2022 Frontiers. A necessary but minor fix that's been long taken care of. Great trucks .
My frontier has been a mess lol
I just got a 2024 frontier pro4x. Great work truck. My previous Nissan was a 2011 Infiniti QX56 which I purchased brand new. Solid SUV I put 270k miles in it before getting something newer.

I would buy the Nissan frontier plus it looks way better my opinion. Hope you’re well. God bless you and your family. Thanks for the video. Keep up the great work. We appreciate you.🙏🫡
sadly Toyota went from king of the hill of quality, build and reliability to Ford status in no time flat.
One ah shit wipes out ten attaboys. not sure how toyota is going to redeem themselves with all these fiascos.
not sure why they don"t more thoroughly test their new engineering/technology or is this a case of poor quality control.
I heard they detuned the engine with the manual transmission because they “couldn’t control your right foot” and the conclusion the car guy made was that these trucks aren’t overbuilt as they used to be…
Yup, light duty design to save money.
Detuned to limit torque Cheap transmission? Dodge did that to their automatic Cummins trucks at first.
@@jeanclaude7018- Rule #1 for building reliable vehicles is to find out what Chrysler does and do the exact opposite.
@@jeanclaude7018 I smell ToyoFanBoy. They have never done it in the previous Toyota manual transmission.
Check the power of the new engine, just not in the manual
I love my new Frontier 4x4 SV. Got a great deal on it also.
Same.
Bring back coolers and dip sticks! Make transmissions easily serviceable again.
What a total disaster. Would not go near a Tacoma or tundra
We still have our 2019 tundra TRD crew cab with 5.7 and we use it to pull the camper mostly and absolutely love the truck, so far never been in the shop for nothing, just oil changes and tire rotations.
At any point when a company replaces car enthusiasts/engineers with bean counters & share holders this will ultimately be the result. The ‘24 4Runner is truly the last Samurai with its bulletproof 1GRFE and 5spd auto. 😢
And 12 mpg
@@misterrobert6799 more like 17mpg but it’s not like these new engines are more fuel efficient. They’re built for emissions BS that’s it.
Bought a new 22 TRD OR with manual 2 years ago. Pull a small camper on long trips to the Smokies & Blue Ridge mountain areas several times a year out of Tampa and have no problems. Is this trans problem specific just with the 24 model?
Toyota PR round table - "debris" left in the transmission after the machining process. Oops, already used that one. What else can we say?
Rubber band broke...lol
I have NEVER heard of a manual transmission failure. They typically last the life of the car. I understand they detuned the manual Taco engine to keep drivers from tearing out the driveline. ??? That's an indirect way of saying they cut corners on the components. Dodge did this with some of their challengers. They were having rear ends give out, so instead of putting in stronger gears, they derated the 5.7 hemi from 395hp to 350hp, and said "Cool, problem solved". Typical for Chrysler, but I've never heard of it with Toyota. Their new CEO needs to be sent down the road. It's also possible they screwed up the heat treatment of the trans gears. They're all powdered metal gears which are absurdly strong, but if not heat treated correctly, it's asking for failure.
If using previous transmission with increased torque and additional weight, why else would Toyota limit power?
@@ryandoyle4344 They said it was in case customers dump the clutch. I don't know if it's the same trans and rear end. Their making a mistake of updating power without updating drivetrain strength. It reduces longevity.
Wool socks to bed = most vivid dreams possible🟡🟣
Toyota should never have shutdown the Tacoma manufacturering plant in San Antonio, Tx., only to build two manufacturing plants for the Tacoma in Mexico.
Another thing, a four cylinder turbo doesn't cut it. Improving the 3.5 V6 to be in the 300 hp range for the TRD and overall better quality would have been selling a lot of units, unlike what Toyota is currently experiencing.
do these dealers you visit know you're trash talking their product? ...i'm surprised they still let you film there.
I had a 13 Tacoma...the only issue was drum brakes seizing in muddy off road driving. They would realease after some back and forth. Powertrain was bullet proof.
I can confirm this heard from two people here in Oklahoma. Shifting issues
Why would you buy this car, in its first year of production?
TLFs 60k Tacoma’s axle broke going up a mild trail that a minivan can clear with all 4 tires on snow and ice no less broke an axle….😂 then the next time they took it up a hill the tranny overheated and they got check engine codes… then Tundra’s new engines grenades itself randomly…. Then the Highlander has a stop sale on it due to faulty airbag programming… I just saw TFL said they would be getting rid of the Tacoma LOL I thought they were going to do a long term ownership review like they did with the Frontier ?! Nahh I guess Toyota said to get it out of the screen and stop reporting on it LOL but I’m sure next year Toyota will raise the price again ! 😂 the fanboys will still defend and buy 😂
Uhhh I think they paid around 46k for theirs. They traded it back in with 7k miles and got 40k or 41k if I remember correctly.
hilarious
I saw this.
to be fair it was a base OR, around 45-47k.
Minivan? bro, the were on a steep incline off Roading and they had full throttle with the wheels spinning like crazy in four-wheel-drive.
The ticker symbol for Toyota is TM it has already dropped from an April high of 255 to the current price of 193 you can probably short the stock down to 166 which is long term support if your so inclined. Once it breaks that level it's anyone's guest how low it will go.
I’m a tundra guy , just hit 95k / miles on my 2015 1794 , never getting rid of it. If I do switch truck brands I would go with the new 2024 f150 platinum plus , they are beautiful and the interior are luxurious.
I have a 2024 Tacoma TRD Sport here in Florida 57,000$ and I put 11,000 miles on it and i haven’t had any problems… I just hate the price
I noticed some reviews casually mentioning the taco transmission overheating under load. I had seen something similar with the tundra, overheating under load and going limp. I didn’t have any issues with mine and it shifted very well, but still disappointing. Seems like there’s no long term reliable options in the truck segment now, and that to me drops Toyota to last because there’s always been little sacrifices with design that you just accept bc Toyotas should last, but now they’re at the bottom of the heap in design and seemingly reliability.
How do you say NO options when Nissan has been pumping out the reliable new Frontier 3 years now? Give me a break. You just gotta have that big fanboy T on the grille?
@@jeanclaude7018 think I was aiming my comment on the full size segment, where the titan is going away (and also not the bastion of reliability a lot of people like to pretend they are). Follow a few Titan groups and you’ll see, lots of cheap materials and engine/trans issues even in the latest iteration.
Years to make a solid reputation, seconds to destroy. Sad to see the new generation of USA Toyotas.
Thanks !
Just another thing that confirms that I made the right choice when I bought my new 2023 Limited a few months ago.
How does Toyota screw up the Manual transmission? Toyota has failed us.
It's why a lot of people state to never buy the first year of a new generation.
100% this
I am surprised myself since 8 speed thought was same from Lexus RWD models. The 2.4 been out a in other cars has normal waste gate, no electric shit, the innercooler is air to air not air to water like Tundra. The Tundra's engine was dogshit in the Lexus LS so that was predicted. I don't know if tundra 10 speed has issues, but 2026 tacoma with 10 speed....
Toyota is in free fall. Even '24 model Tundra are having same issues as '22 so it's not the first-year gen issue but a Toyota management issue which is taking Toyota a different direction
First year Nissan trucks have no real history of issues. But people call them bad names while struggling with their brand x trucks and problems. Makes no sense at all.
I have a first year Hardbody. They were dead reliable right out of the gate. Mine is still on the job 37 years later.
New Frontier has had very few issues from the first year.
Why does everyone ignore tbe one that gets it right, and complain about the un trustworthy brands they insist on buying?
Cheaper in quality and costs, but not cheaper in price, actually the opposite.
Toyota quality has been going down for sometime 2014 Toyota Camry two years later tork converter issue and engine burning a lot oil.
Somehow not surprised. I priced out a Frontier the day before yesterday. I'll be shopping at Nissan soon.

I wonder why couldn't toyota put the 10 speed from the tundra in the tacoma instead of the current 8 speed?
Nissan dealers have quickly noticed the extra attention in the Frontier, and the discounts on Frontiers are drying up. Some dealers who are finding themselves with low inventory of Frontiers are starting up with the BS markups again

You only need a transmission cooler on a big truck when you're pulling heavy load behind the truck like a fifth wheel trailer or something, other than that you don't need a cooler I have honed Ford Dodge never had any transmission problems with any of them worked flawlessly had them for many years high mileage also and now I have my Honda no overheating problems transmission shifts perfectly no issues that's the difference between making something good and Macon garbage. I could understand if Toyota always make crappy cars and Transmissions but they haven't before they've always been relatively reliable so now they're going backwards which tells me they have to be doing this on purpose not an accident at all. They have always made garbage I can understand them having these problems it's something you would be expecting, so their quality is going backwards so the customer should be turning around and walking away and buying something else don't support this garbage!!!!
