My favorite thing about this movie is how much they had to downplay Desmond Doss' heroics. From what I understand, the production team weren't sure the audience would believe the unbelievable amount of absolute
Hugo Weaving's performance in this movie is on a whole other level.
The Japanese aren't really using that many older weapon except their main battle rifles. Japanese weapon designs of the 1930's and 40's were just... weird. It's kind of a side-effect of the fact that much of Japanese industry still operating on a quasi-industrial cottage-style system and that older weapons designs had been sufficient against the Chinese. Other than using bolt action rifles the only real drawback in small arms the Japanese had was a lack of machine guns. Their primary HMG used a weird clip ammunition but had a reputation for being deadly accurate. Their squad LMGs were arguably better than what the US had, but they couldn't produce a ton of them.
Thinking about how many full grown men he had carried or pulled to safety, consider this: due to his religious beliefs, he didn't eat meat, so he didn't eat most of the K rations that they were given. He ate the crackers and that was about it. In order to get more calories, he had to eat coconuts that he could find on the island. However, the coconuts that had fallen off the trees would give him diarrhea, so he had to climb trees to get the green coconuts all while the Japanese snipers would be shooting at him. He was malnourished pretty much all the time.
when he said "I cant hear you..." it gave me chills. Like he was at his absolute limit but found the will to keep saving people. If you read his biography its surprising to know HOW much more crazy stuff he did in the military. he is a real hero through and through
Hacksaw Ridge is arguably the greatest WW2 movie ever made.
I love how you guys react together; the no-look high five and the synchronized hand clap. Made me smile.
It might interest you to know that Desmond Doss had tuberculosis at the time of hacksaw ridge so he had to stiffle his coughing so as not to give away his location while finding injured soldiers he was diagnosed while in the V.A hospital and lost a lung to it. It took nearly 9hours to find his bible and his brothers in arms would not rest till they found it other battalions joined in the search because of what he did for them all. He was also twice decorated with the bronze star for lives he saved in previous battles in the Pacific because by the time of the ridge he was in previous battles there too. In his military career he saved around 300 men. I highly recommend his autobiography as its truly incredible, Mel Gibson said if he had put everything else in nobody would believe a word of any of it.
One of the MANY memorable quotes from this movie is the war horror in his dad's eyes when they are in the cemetery standing by the graves of the men from home who died and he looks at his son and says, "I don't want to visit my son's here."
"True faith is not violent"
This is the most wholesome reaction I have ever seen. Thank you!
RIP and long live Desmond Doss (February 7, 1919 - March 23, 2006), aged 87
I watch a lot of reaction videos and so far with you and your father I love the genuine reaction excited for any future movies!! The quick handshake does it for me đđ.
Greatest medal of honor winner ever in my opinion! Because he did all that without a gun! đ€Ż
I LOVE this movie and ya'll have a very unique & authentic reaction!
True story. He was the first Conscientious Objector to win the Congressional Congressional Medal of Honor.
The part where Desmond heard the call for medic and the explosions from the Battleshipâs Shells are everywhere, and he understands and he starts walking towards his call. I cried and that reminds me of Psalm 23:4
It's impossible not to get emotional at some points during this movie, I've only watched it twice myself; but every time someone is reacting to it I gotta watch. There's always certain points where my eyes water.
