So here's a little clarification on the story, because I think you misinterpreted a few things:
The Nomai themselves never found the Eye, their technology did. They built the Ash Twin Project, the Sun Station, the Black Hole Forge, the High Energy Lab, the Orbital Probe Cannon, everything... only for it all to fail because the Sun Station didn't succeed in causing a supernova. But then the Interloper came by and killed them all when it exploded, flooding the entire solar system with ghost matter. The Hearthians were an aquatic species at the time, and were shielded from ghost matter because it has no effect underwater. So all of their tech, all of their projects, were ready and working, they just didn't function because the Ash Twin Project lacked an adequate power source.
So now the sun, nearing the end of its lifecycle, goes supernova, triggering the previously dormant but now newly-powered Ash Twin Project to send the command to fire the Orbital Probe Cannon back in time 22 minutes, thus beginning the time loop. Over 9 million loops later, the probe does in fact find the Eye, sending its coordinates back to the Probe Tracking Module (at the core of Giant's Deep).
This is where the game actually begins.
When the Probe Tracking Module receives the coordinates (a few minutes after the player opens their eyes for the first time in-game), the memory statue in the museum opens its eyes, and binds to the player (the first entity to happen to walk nearby), making them aware of the time loop. Then you play the game, solving mysteries about the Nomai, and finding your way to the Eye. There you condense the infinite possibilities of the Eye down into a single one, allowing it to become real. Thus, your actions caused the birth of a new universe.
You should fully explore the Quantum Moon (and when you do, go finish the game again after), then do the DLC!

While there are many interpretations of the ending, you can say that is its the acceptance of the inevitable. The end that has to always come, when the lights go out and death comes... but not just the end, the beginning of something new. As I watched your play through, I learned my aunt has cancer, and she has lost the battle with it. She has just a few days left, and I will cherish all the time we had. She introduced me to video games, the bang at the start of my journey... but all stars must go out. Hold every memory dear Butch, and venture into the Outer Wilds.

at the very end, that was YOUR scout that you shot into the eye and lost communication with earlier! Through some quantum shenanigans it survived the death of the universe, the birth of a new one and floated around in space for 14 bilion years ! Love that detail

Since you are playing the DLC too eventually, the Quantum Moon can be part of that next step, and you'll still ultimately get to experience the payoff there too. 🎉

I started a new game. There is no going back if you do that. Bummer but doesnt not ruin it.
The quantum moon IS NOT an ending. You will be dissapointed if you don't complete that mystery... trust me!
Also... another cool easter egg is to fly as far away from the solar system as far you can in 22 minutes and turn around and use your signal scope. You can hear everyone playing in unison and listen to them end as the sun explodes :;(
also also... I forgot to add that if you haven't done quantum moon before the ending you actually miss a big part of the end so once you've done it you should do the DLC and then do the ending again to get all the goodies. A tip for the future... you can add a waypoint for the vessel in your ship log so you can skip having to find the distress beacon and you can also pass time at fires to skip having to wait for the sand on Ash Twin.
Butch if you plan on completing the quantum moon and dlc, know that both of them change something about the main ending so you have to reach the eye again after fully completing them
We get around not having it end by watching guys like you experience it for the first time.
The universe holds many secrets. What you do before the end, that's up to you. The eye awaits, as it always has. Calling out to be found, to be observed. To offer another chance, another universe, another beginning. A new story, yet to be told. While the end may approach you, another may just be approaching their beginning.
The end will come for us all eventually.
Try as we might, we cannot hide from reality, only dream.
But a dream is just a half-life, a vague imatation of that which was and traps new beginnings behind it's veil.
After all, when the end is here, what truly matters is the friends we made along the way.
The last song around the campfire, a celebration of all that has been, and a welcome to all that has yet to be.
From the ashes of our fire, rises the spark of something new.
All it needs to start is to be heard. Once heard, it can be found. Once found, it can be seen.
So, enjoy life. Make the world a better place. For your mind shapes the possibilities of the future, provides the seed on which the flower grows.
The light is ready to shine.
So, play your song, sing your story.
Then, step forward, and observe.

I watched another guy playing this game in German and he always read "There is nothing more to discover." (When he saw the orange letters he thought, that he found everything there.) Imagine... being once to the hanging city and seeing some stuff and then falling into the black hole and find the white hole station and later die in the super nova and then read the ship log to see... there is nothing more to discover at the hanging city. But there actually IS !!!!! It was soooo tilting!!! But I didn't wanna spoil him. hahahaa
Ok so first I'm going to suggest you make one more episode checking out a couple big and small points of interest (although if you're hellbent on not exploring anything you missed, that's your prerogative):
Big: The Quantum Moon, what you find there, at the Sixth Location changes the end of the game.
Small (mostly flavor text, maybe fleshing out a bit of the lore): The Travelers (all the Hearthians you've run into around the galaxy, the ones playing music on your signal scope) all have little things to say about stuff you find if it pertains to their character, Feldspar congratulates you on exploring certain places, or if you have info on the Anglers (I think you got most feldspar's dialogue already, so I think you can skip Dark Bramble on your tour of the system), Chert talks about the Hourglass Twins and the stars (and uniquely has different things to say depending on how far you are in a loop (right at the start, 5 mintues in, halfway through, etc.)), Gabbro talks about the time loop and anything pertaining to it (as well as their ship, which you can ask them about, go and find, and get a little line from them), and last (but not least) Riebeck who cheifly talks about all things Nomai (as well as the terrors of space). Rieback also has one of my favorite interactions about what you find on The Quantum Moon.
Wait! I forgot Esker! just kidding, the only dialogue they don't have when you meet them is a line they get about a "civilian" Hearthian, that unlocks after talking to said Hearthian in the Village, Marl, if you care. but this is particularly flavor text, so I know most people aren't terribly interested in it.
There's a Hearthian named Tuff mining near the zero g cave who has some funny lines, but that's all it is.
There's a small bit of Nomai text in those caves you found on Timber Hearth that has a little bit of lore.
Finally, there's something funny you can do. Head to the ATP near-ish the end of the loop (you can rest at campfires to make time go a little faster). when the thing happens jump (you'll know when it happens). on the next loop check you map, there might be something funny happening. I recommend checking out the strange thing happening on the map
I would also love to explain any confusion with the lore, I've near enough drowned myself in it, so I like to think I have a pretty good grasp on it.
I've been watching a lot of new Ark content lately and I keep seeing CZcamsrs and commenters mentioning your name and how much they loved your playthrough of The Island and how much they adore your video style. The Ark community really misses you...we all hope to see your Scorched Earth playthrough sometime soon ❤❤❤
I waited about almost a year before I played the DLC. Firstly for the same reason as you, procrastinating another 'first'. But also because I didn't think the story could get any better. Only one of those reasons was fair.
You completed Outer Wilds for the first AND last time. (Well, until the DLC of course)
But i assure you, the game will stick in your head like a dark bramble thorn.
You'll think about the game and be both happy and sad that you finished it, happy that you got to experience it, but sad that you wont be able to get that experience directly again.
Best way to somewhat relive that feeling again is by watching other's blind playthroughs.

The quantum moon isn't an ending though. It's just a very cool part of the game he's missed.

Also why does nobody who plays this game realise that that alarm means that your ship is either critically damaged, or is about to blow up because the reactor got damaged.
Congratulations on experiencing this game as blind as possible! If anyone tries to shame you for not doing the Quantum Moon first before pulling the warp core, don't let them. You explained your logic perfectly: based on the knowledge you had, either choice could plausibly have led to a point of no return, and you had to pick one.
No one is shaming him, people are just telling him he should go there. Personally I've never seen anyone skip the moon but Ig some people don't really care that much for the lore.

The game actually answers every question you could have, albeit some more obscured than others. Outer wilds rewards you with knowledge if you take your time and try to fully grasp what the writings say! The dlc gives you another great opportunity to fully grasp what happens :)
The timing of this playthrough was insane. I just started playing Outer Wilds like a week before your first episode and have finished in the last few days right before the finale of yours!

Bro you NEED to explore the Quantum Moon and then play the DLC. The Quantum Moon isn't an alternate ending. It just has a bunch of lore and a very special interaction. It was a HUGE mistake that you missed out on that
EDIT: after you finish exploring the quantum moon, you should look up a lore video for the base game before playing the dlc. This game hits way harder when you understand everything

the ending changes with the DLC, whether or not you have explored the quantum moon, and whether you lose your scout while on the Eye of the Universe. you saw what losing the scout on the quantum moon does to the ending. cannot wait for you to see what the DLC and quantum moon does to the ending.

You hit the nail on the head when you talked about how replayability of this game must be hard, because it is, because the whole game is based on knowledge. That's why the community is so tight-lipped about spoilers. And it's also why a lot of us are here. It's why I'm here, living vicariously through you playing this game for the first time. Since I finished this game I've scoured youtube for playthroughs just to get an inkling of the feeling I felt the first time I played it. And I have to say, yours is one of, if not the best playthrough I've ever watched. Thank you for taking us along on the ride.

I strongly urge you to figure out the quantum moon. Maybe do it as part of your DLC playthrough. I don't think it's a spoiler at this point to say that it doesn't actually end the game.

I found your channel because I watch different people play through Outer Wilds, because it might be my favorite game of all time. I think because Outer Worlds came out at the same time, whenever I mentioned Outer Wilds people think I mean Outer Worlds and the reviews of that were kind of mixed.

I would highly, HIGHLY recommend that you go back and figure out the Quantum Moon. Like you, I finished the game without having done that. I went back and figured that part out, and it was 10000% worth it. Please be sure to do that.
And little tip for next time: You can mark the vessel's location from your ship's computer as a target destination.

Third. do the ending again.

Sad you didn't explore the moon but hey you ended up with a unique playthrough so that's cool! My experience was similar in the way that I didnt fully grasp everything even by the end. But the most important thing is you seem to still have enjoyed it immensely. Strong recommendation to explore the moon, the dlc (which I personally liked even more than the main game) and maybe check out a lore video 🎉
Huh, I've never seen someone figure out the Ash Twin Project and use the Vessel without actually going to the Quantum Moon at the sixth location.
Hope you do an epilogue solving the quantum moon! It's well worth its own episode.

Only thing I will add about the DLC: Alot of people mistakenly believe that there is forced stealth. It's not true (aside from forest, but nobody walks in to the forest) as you can do some puzzle shannanagins to bypass them. Or just brute force by doing stealth, but good luck hahahahaha

I don't know if you already know this but the scorched turf and also the Center map in ark survival ascended just came out a Long time ago and i think you should start playing at least One of them to get started because by the time you beat One of them another One might come out that's all I'm saying don't know if you already know and also i Love your videos very good and entertaining i am 12 years Old and i have enjoyed my your videos and certain Times of depression i Love them and sometimes they even cheer me up❤

just for the next video, i recommend that you open the warp core casing at the Ash twins project and instead of taking the warp core wait next to it near the end of a cycle and float next to it something will happen
