I Try to Save Your Saves (with Tom)

- TomFM visited New York and I had a wonderful list of saves that were submitted to be saved. I figured we could sit down and debate them for hours, or, we could see who can save these saves the fastest. Under a time crunch. Under pressure to deliver top-notch Football Manager knowledge.
We each get two minutes to try to save each save. It is one of the harder things I’ve ever done and even as I write this I have no idea how Tom has done with the 2 minute requirement either. The tactics, the transfers, the budget on FM can take hours to digest, but 2 minutes? There can only be one GOAT of SYS, and they have those 2 minutes to prove it.

I like the concept of having two different responses to save a save but the time limit, for me, adds an unnecessary stress, rush and distraction - think it would work better without the time limit?

100%. But you have to understand, content creators don't "create" so much as they "paint by numbers." It's all extremely formulaic. They just go with percentages and algorithm analytics. The time length of a video is a huge deal. The thumbnail is *vital* and the title is too. This is why pretty much every video you see on CZcams looks the same, has the same type of headline, has a similar length based on the material. It's all just a formula and they're plugging and playing. They stream instead for long form stuff. This "genre" of video will always be just under 20 minutes. Like how those little comedy sketches wind up under 3 minutes. Documentary style is always around a half hour. It's all just a formula that everyone's following.
i agree but as the other commenter says, time limits are algorithm friendly but also i think having unlimited time, youll have very similar answers if they have time to check everything, the time limit is a gimmick but does let get a greater idea of where they see the most important things, ie. one might go to tactics, another to dynamics first and the time limit does kinda help with that i guess
No. You give your answers without a time limit, comprehensive answers that help us understand what to improve. If things overlap or are repeated they can be edited out, keeping the duration of the video tolerable. That's the editor's job. There's no need to artificially limit yourself like that, the quality of the content and the help they give us suffer as a result.
This is just a bad decision by them. I disliked the video and moved on
@@thelastmanonearth2631 you can still edit a video to be a certain length and try to keep answerers relatively succinct without adding a strict time limit which forces the responses to feel rushed

Very nice collab, too bad you guys limited yourselves to such a short time. Clearly Tom has a higher pace and delivers more information, but both of you mostly pulled in the same direction

Cool concept but I don't like the speedrun thing. For instance, cause of the 2 minute rule, Z missed that the 1st guy had a 19 finishing elite striker as a IF on support... Not much can be observed let alone fixed in 2 mins imo.

Even though this was a fun watch, I would say that sys is not the place to use a time limit. If my save was one of the ones you picked for this episode, I'd feel a bit disadvantaged compared to the quality and quantity of feedback others have gotten.

SYS is my favorite thing on your channel, Z, and I know you wanted to take advantage of Tom visiting you in NYC to make some content together but I'm not sure this was the best way to do it. Giving you both a few minutes to look through the save before beginning the timer, giving 3 minutes instead of 2, something feels like it should have been done differently to be more helpful to those whose saves were being saved this month.
I think if you guys want to do this again because it's a great idea either a: increase the time limit, duh. Or B: which I think is better is look around the save first before you save it. With Zealand in particular you're spending probably a good 40 or so seconds each video just gathering information yourself and I think it's fine if you look through the staff, the data etc before you actually start speaking
Interesting that the big common theme of these saves are the defensive problems. I think being defensively solid on this year's FM (particularly after the recent update) has definitely been a lot harder to achieve than before. I'm tending to have to play more attacking to outscore teams rather than try to be cautious. Parking the bus feels basically suicidal on FM23.

amazing collab idea. timer ruined it, was a detriment to the advice you guys could have given. would have been better with both you guys there together providing the advice and bouncing off each other than the weird 2 minute solo timer stuff.

Kinda feel both should have had (say) a minute to silently look at the side before having 2 minutes to comment about it. That way they would know where they need to show there might be issues rather than discovering them as the timer run out

Let's appreciate Tom did manage to save some saves even against the clock though.
I have no skin in this game but if I was someone whose save was picked up, I'd be gutted. You make it onto SYS and then you get a rushed two minutes and, in Tom's case, you know there's more he had to add which was cut and you don't get to know. Rough.

SYS is a good enough format, no need to have this 2 minute self restriction which probably resulted in Saves not really being saved.
I'm shocked Z said to take of prevent short GK distribution, been using that in pretty much every tactic I've ever done
He removed that option because the tactic had mid block as pressing point. Use that option only if you havr Higher pressing.
Else, its counter-intuitive, because you start as mid block but at the same time run up the field to prevent short distribution?!

Brilliant concept, great colab just ditch the timer
I play with Liptovsky Mikulas in Slovakia, whom I have been very successful, but it was very tough because the Slovak deadline day is not the same as others and the “level of infrastructure and standard of living” blocks almost every transfer of players in top 5 leagues.
I like the collab but I really dislike the time limit, I understand because the video might blowout to be 40min otherwise, one idea might be to have them look at the team and figure out what they need to change off camera and then just give 2 minutes to articulate what needs to be done, that way it doesn't come down to only 30 seconds of actual advice.
Tom gets bonus points for his acapella LOANS attempt
The 2nd tactic (in Poland) looks as if you could have helped a lot there. The 5 wide players (including the Mezzala here) will end up being in the same areas of the pitch all of the time. mezzala and winger on the same side is curious, Mezzalas work very well with IFs or IWs.
It’s strange that Tom just doesn’t appreciate wingers and tries to play with 2 FBs on attack and a Half Back. Especially 2 IFs can be great, I tend to play one on attack and one on support.
Imagine you submit your save to be minuciously saved and you get two fast food savings instead

Newbie question: when managing a top team, when is a good time to sell a experienced player?
For example, I have a couple of 28+ players that aren't playing as well as the younger ones, but I feel like selling them now would be kind of mean because they've been loyal for years.
Any advice?
first thing to know about FM, mate - attachment to players will screw you over in your squad building

if they are your oldest players than you should be careful, having experienced players with high leadership always seems to help me play better than having a bunch of sub 26 yr old players(consistency, reliability in big games, etc), its a thing i worry about alot in my roster construction. I always find having a couple 28 and over players in the team produces better results than a bunch of wonderkids.

I play with Hertha BSC. Currently I am in Year 2041/2042 and I haven't lost a home match since 21/11/2037 against Schalke 04.
I loved this but it would have been even better if you had then played against each other or simulate the rest of the season to see which was better.
