    we got one from Tiger a few years back and i love that damn thing. my husband got it cheap from work because it was a floor model and they were getting rid of the old ones to make room for the new ones and at first i thought, "but i can make really good rice on the stovetop! why do i need THIS?" but now i can't live without it. we make rice at least 3x a week (for onigiri, curry, stir fry, mabodoufu, you name it) and it's a bloody godsend. no more boilovers, no more scorched rice, no more having to stand there and tend to it. just put in the rice and water, close the top, hit the button and 45 minutes later, perfect rice. Calrose, jasmine, basmati, whatever. it makes it perfectly every. single. time. it's worth its weight in gold.

It's really good when you have a good cooker.

    Living in Japan, I've got the one on the left, but it cost about half as much as the one in the video. My friend always complained about my old rice cooker's rice, and now I can understand why. If you're going to eat a lot of rice, definitely worth the money for the good one.
    And I can confirm that the rice is still good for days. For maybe 2 days I'll happily eat it plain. After that, I stick to making fried rice. As far as 10 days, though... I feel like you need to rethink how much rice you're making if you have enough for 10 days.

      @wellivea1 Před 5 lety +5

      Yeah, and tiger sells some for about $70 that are still far better than the mechanical click ones, they just don't have any special features or timer. The consistency of the rice depends on how much water you put in, unlike the $350 zojirushi, but it doesn't burn rice to the bottom and the texture is fairly consistent. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KDNKTJG/

So even if you throw out the one or other batch of rice because you burned or over-cooked it - you can do that for a lifetime and never recoup your investment. All it helps with is that you don't have to spend another 20 minutes cooking another batch.

My old rice cooker had one 60 minute setting and a warming function, it could never make proper sushi rice, and the warm function dried or browned the rice on the bottom. Once skeptical of these fancy smart cookers - they absolutely make better rice. They also use less energy than my old rice crock, I couldn't hear a power draw from my air conditioner when turning it on.

    Those cheap rice cookers don't hold rice for long. The fancy ones keep rice fresh for days. There is a reason why like 90% of Koreans have those 400+ (sometimes over 500 dollars) Cuckoo/Cuchen brand rice cookers. And they last 10 years easily.

    Lived with my parents' Zojirushi all my life for the price of $150 brand new from the 99 Ranch. Moved out on my own and got a $30 black and decker rice cooker (w/ pot lid like the Aroma one). It was hell trying to eat that stuff every day. Finally bought my own Zojirushi for $150, and it was such a HUGE difference. I "mealprep" my rice, leaving it in up to a week sometimes. Never worried about "rice poisoning" as some mealpreppers always seem to worry about. Rice is always fluffy and perfect. The type of rice you can just eat by itself. I use it to make hot oatmeal for breakfast and porridge for sick days, too.Wash it, press the button, and you're done with it. I work, go to the gym, and try to sleep early. I try to spend 1 hour at most for cooking and eating, otherwise I only have 2 hours of free time before bed. A legit rice cooker is seriously a must have for everyday rice eaters!

    Honestly I’ve always loved rice with my meals since a kid. My mom worked with a Filipino man who taught her how to make it perfect in a pot on the stove with a piece of a grocery paper bag sheet between the lid and the pot once we were ready to let the steaming process begin. Rice was perfect every time. When I was 20 years old I was introduced to a rice cooker by a friend who was married to a Japanese man. Thus my kids grew up eating rice at almost every meal. But now we were eating the short grain calrose sushi type rice. So that is what they prefer. Now that I’m alone, I eat mostly short grain sushi rice but some dishes are better with the jasmine rice. I was introduced to that by a Thai man I worked with. I’m vegan now so rice is my daily staple with my meals. I have really considered buying this expensive rice cooker when I saw it on Mommy Tangs CZcams channel. I think it can only improve the quality of my favorite dish. Tfs this video 👍😊

    Hey, you are using the wrong technique with the aroma pot! As soon as the pot goes click you need to unplug it and remove the inner pot and lid and set on a trivet. This keeps the bottom part of the rice from burning. I also fluff the rice immediately after I remove the inner pot. I use only jasmine rice and it comes out perfect every time! Nice video though I did not know you can spend that much on a rice cooker. I also use my instant pot with great results.

    • @JimN5QL
      @JimN5QL Před 6 lety +4

      Wow! I guess you have never used the aroma pot before. Like he said there's only one button. Mine has a non-stick coating so there's never an issue of rice sticking. What he did not mention is that after the button pops up it goes into a keep warm mode and that is what will burn the rice on the bottom and that's why I simply take the pot out and put it on a trivet to stop the cooking on the bottom. I use long grain, Basmati and Jasmine rice. At first there is a learning curve to get the ratio of rice to water for each but after that it's simple. I am a Cajun and Cajun food usually has rice as a side. When I serve guests I always get asked how did I make the rice. there's actually no extra effort and it seems more effort with that $350 one with all the buttons to push. My Aroma pot is very lightweight, small footprint and easy to store when not needed that is a plus for me. My grandmother taught my mother how to make rice in a saucepan with a lid and mom taught me how to do that and the rice came out wonderful. I just bought the aroma pot because it was on sale and I was curious but I have not regretted the purchase!

    I had a roommate once who had one of those fancy rice cookers and I've desperately wanted one ever since!

    I own a generic rice cooker and a computerized fuzzy logic Sanyo cooker from 2011 or so. The rice from the Sanyo is always perfect: more evenly cooked, more tender, without undercooked, dry or burnt spots and it is kept warm up to 12 hours without drying out. Cooking takes much longer though. IMO worth every penny.

    The best rice cooker is the Asian brand TIGER. Go to a Asian store and it cooks rice perfect and tasty everytime! For 60-80 bucks

      Zoujirushi is better than Tiger for sure, and there are fancy brands that are better.

    I’ve been a tiger rice cooker crew since birth… finally got my Bentley rice cooker… it’s night and day difference…like all the grains were cooked evenly good. Best thing is that you can have a keep warm rice option without burning your rice .

    I still have a zojirushi rice cooker that I have been using for 10 years since I was a kid and it still works definitly worth the investment. Now in college and I bought another once and it makes perfect rice everytime. My roommate had aroma rice cooker problem is it waste rice as the bottom layer gets dry. While Zojirushi stays moist for days

    55mins? You can boil perfect rice in under 15mins using the evaporation technique on the stove. It's not difficult after 2 or 3 times you'll own it.

      I can’t get consistent results using the stove. Only because I don’t time it right every time. I have kids to chase. I can’t babysit a timer. Rice cooker is definitely a great helping hand.

    I use my instant pot now -shrug- I love that I can clean the top of it. Plus it's stainless steel and not Teflon, yet does not stick :). Before I had the aroma multiuse one, I just hated the fact I couldn't wash the top.

    wow ! this is awsome!! i actualy bought the egsact same 2 rice cookers, (first the cheap one obviusly) but for me here in germany the Zojiruchi was WAY more expencive than what you said in the Video, as i had to have it inported from Japan i paid a total of almost 500 dollars for it, but i must say, i use it at least 1-2 times a week and it is one of the most awsome hardware of my kitchen!
