    Thank you for this video! My brother and I just got the starter set a few days ago and coming from years with X-Wing we weren't too sure how the crit system worked. I had a question that I don't think was addressed though I may have just missed it in the video. If I have a pool of dice with crits of all three colours and upgrade cards that have crit effects for all three colours, do I just choose one effect for the whole attack? Or can do I get to pick a crit effect for each colour as they come from different upgrade cards? Thanks again!

    • @Crabbok
      @Crabbok  Před 7 lety +15

      Great question! You'd only get to pick one crit effect in that case. However there is one Weapons Team upgrade card called Fire Control Team, that allows you to resolve one ADDITIONAL critical effect. You could potentially resolve a second critical effect that way.

    This is extremely helpful as the Armada rule book does not explain everything or explains it poorly. My friend and I have been working up to joining a local tournament to test our skill but it's clear with this explanation that we've been playing our crits wrong.

    Crabbok, I need to stop watching your Armada videos. It is become too hard to resist getting into Armada. (I am an X-Wing player, funny enough got into it because I saw your demo a while back) lol. Great vids as always!

    One thing I’m not really sure about, say you’re using the Concussion Missiles and you want to use their effect. Does the black crit dice need to be discarded for the effect to trigger?

    Great video Crabbok. These clarifications help alot.
    Could you clarify some of the terminology used in the cards. For example...
    Exhaust, discard, etc... There has been confusion about "exhaust" does that mean 1 time use in Game, or per turn? discard is a one use and done I assume.

    • @Aurora07
      @Aurora07 Před 7 lety +1

      Justin Avery yeah when you use a card it is exhausted. If you need to use it again in the same turn then that card is discarded for good. So only use to discard in emergencies. an exhausted card is returned to green in the final turn phase (name eludes me) along with squadron activations etc. That's the way I've been told anyway. If that's wrong someone please correct me!

    • @vclapem9140
      @vclapem9140 Před 4 lety

      Aurora07 that is wrong

    • @Socherbal
      @Socherbal Před 4 lety

      vClapem how is that wrong? The card clarifies the effect. If it is exhausted (or spent),that means you tap the card or token. If it is a defense token, that means you turn it over to the red side. If it is a card, that means you tap it sideways so it can’t be used again that turn unless there is another effect played that untaps it, Like targeting scramblers and the interdictor title when used together. Exhausted cards and defense tokens are re-readied in the status phase that occurs at the end of every round after the squadron phase. A card will say “discard” when it is a single use card. That means you use it once and it is gone permanently unless another effect recovers that card. Like the lando officer card. It says force a re-roll and then discard this card. That means it is gone. If it said exhausted, you would simply tap that card and then ready it again in the status phase. Hope this clears any confusion.

    • @vclapem9140
      @vclapem9140 Před 4 lety

      Socherbal I was referring to the bit where he said that if you use an exhausted upgrade card you discard it. When you exhaust an upgrade card, you are not allowed to use it again until it is readied. Discarding it to use it again is not an option. Exhausted defense tokens can be discarded to use again, but not an exhausted upgrade card.

    I know this is a old video but I'm just getting into armada. The assault concussion missiles, if I roll say 3 black crits on a ships front, does that give 3 damage to its shields on the side? Also what if they don't have a shield in one side, does that damage go to its hual points?

    • @elijahsellers3727
      @elijahsellers3727 Před 5 lety

      Jon Redman: you could only resolve one critical effect, even though you rolled three criticals. The enemy vessel would receive one damage to the target zone and each adjacent zone. If the vessel had no shields on one or more of the zones, it's my understanding that the vessel would get one facedown damage card for each unshielded zone that was effected. If you have the Fire Control Team weapons team card on this ship, you could resolve another critical out of your three-crit-roll. Does this help?

  • @xero989
    @xero989 Před 7 lety +4

    not to be nit picky, but defense token timing is important both evade and contain resolve in step 4 of attack resolution the spend defense token step, then step five resolve damage the first step is to resolve crits so crits resolve before redirected and technical brace resolve. this is important because let's say you're using assault proton torpedoes and I'm an attacking the front of an ISD it has four Shields but it draws the crit that makes it lose all shields on the highest remaining Shield Zone, or in the example of assault concussion missiles above it would resolve before the redirect happened. it's kinda picky, but it really does make a difference. The standard crit effect appears to apply after the defense tokens are spent but you really chose to use that before they were it causes some confusion but critical effects particular on cards resolved before the determine damage step when the brace takes effect and also before what you could call the apply damage step when the redirect is resolved.

    • @Crabbok
      @Crabbok  Před 7 lety +4

      I don't think you are being nit picky at all. This is a rare example that can totally happen. Granted it hasn't ever occurred in my games, but it is a possibility, especially if you have Dodonna.

  • @devinbae9914
    @devinbae9914 Před 7 lety +1

    if you have an engineering command token and the same command dial, can you combine the point costs, say like an ISD which has 4 engineering with the token which is half it's engineering value, can the ISD then spend 6 engineering points combined?

    So Norra Wexley was always the card that confused me. From what I understand her effect is that it causes a damage to shields on TOP of the damage that the crit effect causes? So if you attack a non-shielded section of hull she does nothing extra but if you attack a shielded section and use her effect its like a single extra damage?

    • @Crabbok
      @Crabbok  Před 7 lety +5

      Norra's ability doesn't remove the default crit from friendly bombers... so you can STILL resolve the default crit if you prefer. Basically, if the target has a bunch of shields, and you roll , say, 1 crit.... you'll do 1 damage to shields, and then trigger the crit effect of doing 1 extra damage to shields, for a total of 2 damage to shields. If the target has no shields, you'll do I damage to hull, which will be face up because you'll use the default crit. The worst case scenario with her if you do exactly 1 crit, would be to face a ship's hull zone with exactly 1 shield, because in that case neither crit would give you an advantage.

    That A-wing scenario is interesting Crabbok people at the Club i go to disregard the Crit completely and only see it as 1 hit if the A-wing rolls a hit and a crit on the Black dice.

    • @Crabbok
      @Crabbok  Před 7 lety

      SuperWazzaG yeah they are doing it right. That's exactly what I said in the video.

    • @Alphapara
      @Alphapara Před 7 lety +2

      He meant you disregard the crit symbol, but still count the hit symbol, dealing 1 damage.
      The (oh so wonderful) exception is Green Squadron, an A Wing squad with the Bomber key word. One of my favorites!

    so do you have to deal a damage card to trigger cards like ACM?

    • @SuperWazzaG
      @SuperWazzaG Před 7 lety +1

      I don't believe so chap you only have to have a dice that's got the crit icon on it to trigger a crit effect

    • @Potato-yr2lw
      @Potato-yr2lw Před 7 lety

      Greg Holt no, only crits that specify that the defender has been dealt a damage card. (The default critical effect is if the defender is dealt a damage card by this attack, the first damage card is dealt face up. Another example is XX-9 turbolasers)

    but some cards allow multiple crits. And what if you have ion cannon crits with the showing die, as well as the assault concussion missiles (black dice?) And why is this game written by the dumbest people on the planet without any sense at all?
