Let’s be real here, you’ve already watched Linus’, Steve’s or.. Steve’s video on these new chips. You know how they perform and how they compare to last gen and Ryzen 7000. So let’s shake things up and do something a little different. I’ve spent the last week overclocking and testing the i5 13600K to see if it’s even worth doing - and I’ve found some rather interesting results.

Tom's hardware did an overclock on the 13600k at 5.6ghz on an rtx 4090 and it matched the 13900k stock in most games. So the reason you aren't seeing gains could be a gpu bottleneck not the cpu

If you are doing something GPU-heavy, then it's most likely to be the GPU that is the bottleneck, and if you're doing something CPU-heavy, like e.g. code-compiling, CAD or such, the CPU is going to be the bottleneck.

maybe its actually worth it to buy a 13600k , for a DDR4 system in case you got a ton of fast DDR4 laying around, and just clock the snot out of it, for a 3090/4090 system. at least if you dont need the 14+ cores of the big chips, and only really game. ALSO, PLZ start telling people what system you test in, its a bad trend that more and more reviewers are forgetting this. Put it in the intro or text under the video. we need details, or comparisons to our own stuff is imposible.

Yeah buildzoid turned off e-cores and got the 13600k to 5.6ghz core 5.4ghz cache. Can only imagine what you can get with hyperthreading off as well maybe even 5.9ghz core. There are some cheap z690 boards out there too that can be combined with crazy fast ddr4 that’s pretty affordable compared to ddr5 low end memory.

@@PokèMyBalls Although I've always built my PCs for gaming, I didn't use them for it very often because I was exclusively a console gamer. And most of the time, a good GPU is all you need, but I do occasionally encounter a game that is more CPU bound and I just decide not to play it if it won't run well. I fully crossed over to PC about 2 years ago. Haven't been able to afford a new build until recently. I should be good for the next decade now, as long as I periodically upgrade my GPU.
Also, I never had any interest in AMD platforms, although I used to only buy AMD (ATI) video cards. I don't remember why I was so loyal to them, but maybe they were better back in the day.

The powerlimit slides/analysis at the end of the video are flawed. Setting 120 W limit will have no effect on most games as the power draw when gaming is way under 120 W. My 13600K pulls 25-65 W when gaming (144 fps cap) running at 5.4 GHz on pcores at 1.20 V. At those settings, the CPU will not pull more than 130 W at full load in CB23, so a power cap isn't needed anyway. At default my mobo was applying a massively excessive 1.36 V at load, when actually it's fine at 1.16 V at stock, and 1.20 V at 5.4 GHz on all pcores. Most boards will do the same. The best gains come from removing the mobo overvolts applied by default.

And since he's pretty much only testing at 1080p and 1440p low to high res, there's really no point in using a 4090 to see the differences in performance. Actually, unless you have a 3080ti and above, you won't see much of a difference. No 4090 is needed. You should have checked other overclockers online before you said what you just said. Anything below a 3080, you are actually bottlenecking the i5 13600k. The i5 13600k is actually a competition to the i9 12900k
