    Thanks for the review. I have the Arendal 1723 towers and they’re excellent. I can verify their build quality and strong customer service. I went with SVS SB 1000 Pros for my subs. They have a 12 inch driver in a box only about 13 inches wide. They fit my size needs and budget. They were only $900 for the pair open-box from Amazon. Their wireless app is fantastic to control while listening from my chair using my phone or tablet. Peace, love and music!

    Really appreciate the review! Especially when you mentioned the size difference... The Arendal are babies against the RSL! As you said, it's unfair to compare the output capabilities for 40hz and under.
    I think the Arendal has the sound, feature and looks lots of people would like. Especially since the SVS 2000-Pro has gone up in price so much.
    Cheers!

    For a music system and occasional home theatre the 1S is a pretty good choice, something like the RSL (and many other bigger subs) is ... a commitment, especially multiple.
    If you get the chance in the future, I'd be very interested in a review of the upcoming Buchardt SUB10, maybe they could send you one for review. Also not the highest output for the price, but very compact and quite feature rich.

    I bought a sub and really liked it so I bought another of the same and it sounded/measured so different I thought it was broke but when I swapped their positions it was obviously just the room. Makes me believe the only thing that matters is how loud they get and the compression at all spl volumes. Plus whether they work well at your normal listening volume.

    • @BatteryAz1z
      @BatteryAz1z Před 5 měsíci +2

      That plus group delay. I tried integrating an SB-1000 Pro with two Arendals but it just wouldn't gel, the SVS has 1+ cycle phase shift going below 30hz while the Arendals stay at half a cycle. So now I just own two 1723 1S and a 1961 1S :P

      some subs are significantly more snappy then others, usually also having all around better control. matters a lot especially for music. just the fact that a newer sub can make use a good modern class d amp..

    • @John-ok8ts
      @John-ok8ts Před 5 měsíci

      @@hotdog9262 Yea that's true but I'm not sure how that shows in measurements which is Erin's thing. What I like to see in measurements is how it handles at different SPLs because I think it really does make a difference to how you perceive how good a sub is and you can then combine that with the more subjective stuff like whether it's fast and details etc

  • @HiFinest343
    @HiFinest343 Před 5 měsíci

    I have a question about 4:37. Does this measurement imply that this subwoofer wouldn’t be a good candidate for a traditional house curve? The curve rolls off way early, meaning if we try to make the 30-20hz range the peak SPL, we’d be dragging down the 100hz SPL like 15-20dB lower than its capability, when basically means muting so much of its output capability? I’m asking because I have dual SB16’s, and they start to rolloff at like 30hz. So when I applied the house curve, it measured well with my EQ, but it sounded like ass because at higher volumes, I was pushing the low end too hard, and the mid bass was brought down to match the house curve, but I had lost all that SPL by design? This sealed sub I imagine would sound similar when pushed like that. Any thoughts on that? Thanks!

    I'm currently researching a possible Arendal 1961 1S purchase to go in my very small guest house that I'm currently living in where floor space is at a HUGE premium.
    I'm currently using some poor, used 6" Sony HTIB sub that I found at a thrift store for $10 to add some bottom end to my KEF Q150 bookshelves (and let me apply a crossover so they're not trying to play deeper than they're comfortable). It barely makes a difference, but it's noticeable, moreso in extension than output. It starts distorting badly just before it's as loud as I want it to be. I think it's a combination of hitting Xmax and some port chuffing... maybe cabinet resonance -- it's just cheap MDF with probably little to no bracing.
    I've only got about 13" of clearance behind my entertainment center and nowhere else I can put a sub. The Arendal 1961 1S is just about the only subwoofer I've found that'll fit back there. FWIW, an SVS 3000 Micro will fit back there too, but the Arendal should definitely have more output and LFE extension at the same price.
    Interesting comparison to the RSL Speedwoofer 12s, which piqued my interest... but the RSL is HUGE in comparison. Even the 10s is too big for my current space. Maybe when I'm in a house again I'll go get a Speedwoofer 12s. Wish you had an affiliate link for them.

    As a 2 channel hifi only enthusiest with Maggie’s the sub data snd reviews is minefield for me. I don’t care about ht, I really don’t care about sub 30 hz excursion, I don’t want to shake the walls of my house, and I don’t want anything that sounds like whale farts. Being a former car audio guy we all know the sound setup for spl flex the windows and rattle the liscense plate off. That scene and sound is like putting a battery to my tongue and a Rusty spoon to my tongue. I want a sealed sub that is lighting fast and doesn’t call attention to itself. Just a bit of punch and presence to help the Maggie’s shine at what they do best. Rel and rythmik servos seem to be the common rec.

    • @1337sim1
      @1337sim1 Před 5 měsíci +2

      The 1S is a good sealed subwoofer. I don't understand where you're getting at.
      If you high pass your mains and low pass with a subwoofer you have lots more options of placement to get the best response in your room, compared to let's say... Two big tower speakers.

      Surprisingly easy to integrate the sub with the Maggies (50 hz low pass with a 24db/octave roll off) and more than sufficient extension to shake the walls if I so desire.

      @Artcore103 Před 5 měsíci

      Yes wrong. Not the 4 different models but the constant adjusting - if you keep physically adjusting controls on the subs that is. If you're just pushing a button on a remote big deal. Nothing is ever set up perfectly for all sources and all material. But a computer is the best source for everything, and the best audio control center. AVR's are dumb and a rip off.
      Power amp(s), DAC and/or DSP processor (miniDSP for example), is all you need and is better in every way except convenience for noobs in the initial setup.

E.g., in your frequency response for the 1S, you list max SPL of 108db and compression of 20db at 20hz, whereas the CEA 2010 data states it can produce 102db at 20hz. Ignoring room gain, which is more applicable to real world use? Thanks!!
