Asian Peanut Pancake Turnover (Apam Balik)

  • Apam balik, Malaysian style. Crispy and fluffy pancake filled with roasted peanuts, sugar, creamy sweet corn, some butter and then folded into half. A true Malaysian nostalgic dish that can be eaten both for breakfast or tea.
    NOTE: A mistype in the ingredients for the batter, sorry! It's supposed to be:
    2 tbsp granulated sugar (25 gr), not 1/4 cup

    Thank you very much. This video brings back my memory. We, kids, in Hongkong 1950s loved this snack very much. It was delicious, affordable, and could fill up our stomachs.

    Apart from Apam Balik, it is also called Apam Pulau Pinang by the Singaporean Malays.

    Looks good man. This recipe is better than the Catherine Kua version where the batter needs to be prepared 2 times and mixed together after that. Inconvenient.

    It must be cook at a very low heat issit? I dunno why but i nvr get a smooth base as yours after cooking but the flavour is awesome!

      No, not very low heat. Use low medium heat like it says in the video. Usually the first one will be wonky but the rest will be good. Using on stick pan helps. Hope it helps, happy to know you liked it. Thanks!

      Yes! Have you tried it in Brunei? I wonder if they have something similar. This meal is close to my heart as my siblings and me used to help my father selling apam balik in the afternoons, after he came back from work 🙂.
