I love oval rings, the climbing is so good and extra kick on descend and sprint
I’m using a Unite Components T-type oval chainring and it’s been working great.
oval chainrings are unobtrusively amazing. When I hop back on my commuter or big bike with round chainring, I miss the ovality. Especially when climbing or sprinting
Yeah that's what we're noticing, climbing/ low cadence or sprinting.
Yup I have been running oval and a fan since Oneup released their first version.
Same here 🤘
I have recently switched back to round chainring on Transmission, partially also because SRAM support specifically told me they advice against doing that, because during development it was found that the performance with an oval ring was not ideal. Unfortunately the guy didn't have any details to share.
There's no credible science, studies made by some .. shady manufacturers are pretty much unscientific and based on feelings.
if it not ideal, then why they make it (oval chainring) ?
@@ArdianSutarjan Read my comment again. I was talking about Transmission.
I'm using oval chainring with Eagle GX, no problem so far, but I had to change my derailleur a few times due to crashes. With Shimano xt rear derailleur the wear on the clutch was ridiculous.
I believe there is something similar that will wear out on srams side.
I use oval chairing and I can feel the difference. I like the oval for its efficiency.
You and me both!
Great review as always. Switched to ovals years ago and won’t go back. Really notice it on climbing. Much easier on the legs.
I finally try oval on my bike and i love it. I ve buy Garbaruk for axs GX, working like it should be. I never going back on standard chainring. Climbing with oval is much better✌🏻
SAme here we like them on our mountain bikes
Reminds me of biopace from back in the day
Neverused oval front ring, would you mind explaining the difference or the benefits please? Cheers Chris. Love your channel by the way.
I still have Biopace on my 1980s Trek road bike that sits on the trainer.
Biopace was not angled properly.
@@TheAntoine191 I know.
For some reason I like one of the road bikes I have which runs biopace. Can't explain it well, but it's a nice switch up.
I have trying to get sram chain power meter. But I am not sure it is worth it compared to to other options out there. The power meter doesn’t seen to be compatible with oval due to the shape of the power meter.
Lately all I need from a bike is it to work,
I’d there an oval chainring for the t type chainring power meter yet? I haven’t seen any.
@@davidv6803 don’t think the power meters play nicely with ovals
I use a Chinese copy of the absolute black on my old gxp x1 carbon cranks. I think it helps compensate for the fact that I really should be running shorter cranks.
I still don't get how sram decided on that number of retaining bolts. 😂
They've used it before with the power meters/ road
what's brands?
@@ArdianSutarjan what brand oval crankwheel? Stone
Garbaruk, Ouch 70.00 for a chain ring ? Pretty pricey.
Not cheap for sure
Am I the only one to experience more derailing with oval in thick clay mud?
@@josereneducharme142 we have not seen that but usually avoid conditions like that unless it’s a race
Sram chain only? Do kmc or wipperman etc chains not work as they are higher quality 😂
Pretty sure Flattop is patented so it will be a while before we see others products
@woduk sram chain are awesome starting at x01 level, theyare the longest lasting bike by a good margin. However t type are insanely priced
There is an offering from alugear
Yeah there’s a few 3rd party options out there not just what I mentioned
I have one chainring from Alugear...super cool, the aero version on the XX1 crankset
