By far the best version of this is Clapton's at Budokan posted by Slunky. This version is plain by comparison, not to take anything away from E.C. who always blows me away.
Duane Allman sang this so well. I can't imagine anyone singing this as well as he did--not even Gregg. Loved Paul Hornsby's piano on Duane's versoin. EC's version was kind of a snoozer.
Almost the same age Clapton influenced my life greatly......so did Howlin Wolf.. Da blues was in me from an early age.. This rendition is excellent. Throaty, funky and "down-in-the-basement." I'm so grateful for this rendition. I'm now 67yo and still playing the blues...the Hammond B-3.
I've heard about 12 different covers of this. Duane Allman's version blows them all away, including Clapton here, who's vocal performance is way above average but his guitar, to me, is a little lackluster coming from him.
Clapton is still God!
a pure Blues Jewell
Lightnin Hopkins and Eric Bibb covers are the best
So much Soul

Everybody giving credit to EC & DA, This is a Howling Wolf song. There is no better than The tail dragger himself.

One good version is Big Mama Thoronton, one of the very originals
Great live moment. Great great playin goin on here!
@Skyman46 As does Electric Flag-Mike Bloomfield!!
@wrbegin Yes I have. I actually sing Have You Loved a Woman in Karaoke.
EC LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!
The best version by far of Ligfhtnin Hopkins and also the Eric Bib.
I'm Tired tolistening the same blues solo for forty years.
Love this version, but I still prefer Duane Allman's.
The best version by far is by the band Free with Kossoff on the guitar, Kirke on the drums, Fraser on the Bass, and of cours Rodgers on vocals.
I like Erics version really well, but, John Mayer should do a cover of this song. He is Amazing on the guitar with songs like this.

I agree, heck Jimmy Witherspoon, Aretha Franklin and Little Walter did it better.
I don't like. I love Eric and I will always respect him but he needs a Gibson and a Marshall stack.
DUANE ALLMAN does this better with more soul.
Duane Allman does this 1 way better
This sucks compared to howlin Wolf
However the melody. Still the same way
