Hogwarts Legacy is set in the late 1800s, taking place in several Wizarding World locations such as Hogwarts Castle, Hogsmeade, and the Scottish Highlands. AppletonOak takes on the role of a student (voiced by Sebastian Croft or Amelia Gething) starting their studies at Hogwarts in the fifth year. The player character possesses the power to control a mysterious ancient magic and holds the key to an "ancient secret" that threatens the stability of the wizarding world. Professor Fig is mourned in a poignant eulogy by Headmaster Black and Professor Weasley.

Guys, you should put the game on your description box like other gaming channels does for officiality and could help with the algorithm.
I really urge you guys to switch to PC setups, (for the next games) good PC will provide so much better quality. Also you can always play on controller even on PC. :)

Am glad you guys are starting a gaming channel. Haven't played through this game yet so im going to refrain from watching this until i finish it but im excited to see your reactions to it once i complete it.
Would love to see you play Alan Wake either remastered or original Xbox 360 version. Doesn't matter which one honestly. Great game!! An Awesome story of thrilling twists and turns. Good action with a little mix of horror in sort of a segmented episode style like a TV show. The lore is fantastic. The game studio Remedy knows how to bring a world to life. The town they put you in feels like it could exist in real life. Just awesome!!

Most important piece of advice I can give is this: don't forget that you are playing a game for enjoyment and we're just here to watch you enjoy it, so don't feel pressured into playing the game in any manner other than how YOU would play it - feel free to explore if you want or rush to the objectives if you wanna do that instead. The game has a lot to offer and various paths and quests to go on, so there's no "correct" way to play it, it's whatever you feel like doing at the time. If you see something interesting you want to check out, go check it out.

Am I the only one who ADORES that Appleton misspelled his first name? For some reason, I could totally see a wizard or witch naming their child 'Appeton', it has just that perfect amount of weirdness to it. Also it's just charming and I love it.

Oak getting frustrated over being reminded, repeatedly, of objectives. Then figuring out the objective that was on the screen. You made it so much more difficult than it needed to be and I love you for it! Way to stick through it! Let's go! ❤❤❤
I give Oak SO many props for powering through and not giving up through this part! I loved seeing the dodging improve but I wanted to shout protego so many times at the orange circle 😅 The first battles are the hardest to get used to the controls
I would have been so frustrated and stop playing the game for a while.

I've only seen videos but I can not for the life of me figure out what the story and the objective of the game is. Are there levels? or dungeon bosses? Or do you just walk around choosing which of your classmates you're going to kill?
I can't wait till he realizes the game is an open world and he can explore everything without having to follow the main questline.
Not really open world just yet, he's stuck inside Hogwarts until he goes to Hogsmaede, even then, Higwarts has several locked areas and puzzles/etc that he won't understand yet, and there's only like 3 side quests pre-Hogsmeade (one being the long one of finding the gobstones, which can be done more efficiently while you explore later in game)
@@oyasumiihi Fair I only did one play-through and then quit so you’ve likely got a better understanding than me tbh
I'm 54 min in so Oak might have figured this out but:
There's a bright orange circle around your characters head when you're about to receive a hit. Using the shield spell when that pops up ensures you block the attack. Focusing on blocking when you see that indicator makes it easy to shield/dodge against attacks, even if you can't see who or what is attacking. If the indicator is there, you're about to be smashed.
As for why the game kept coming up with a message about the objectives window. It's the game constantly hinting that it won't progress until you've cleared the current objective since it has registered that you're dodging and attacking rather than blocking as the objective states.
Getting used to noticing and using the games in-build indicators (like the orange circle around your head when about to receive a hit), will make it much easier for you. So my advice would be to look out for the in-game indicators which usually are either visual, auditory or both.

I've done nothing but binge-watching over a dozen reactor videos. But to see OAK doing this!? What a surprise!
The reason that pop up was happening during the big fight is because you weren't following the objective. You had to use Stupefy on 3 enemies
It had it on the screen too 😭
I loved how the Thestral started appearing after the MC processed that he had seen death
I think it’s also for us as the viewer to also see death and be able to see the thestrals, that way we can see them for the rest of the game. Very thought out

Revelio constantly is the best advise I can give! Don't be hard on yourself, there were definitely a few spots that had me frustrated. I hope you enjoy!
I'll admit to playing other games and automatically trying to use Revelio time to time O:) It is an indispensable spell in Legacy and used it about as often as I could.

I think its kinda cool this accidentally turned out to be someones first experience with the open world rpg genre.
Always really exiting for me when someone explores a new genre because they all have a bit of an underlying gameplay logic you take for granted knowing already as a veteran where as a newby needs to learn them.

I’m not sure how present you guys are on the gaming scene but if a game called “Until Dawn” managed to slip everyones radar I think that would make a fantastic play through for you guys. Especially as a group with the lights down low, it’s a story based horror and somewhat light on gameplay so you guys could easily take turns without worrying about controls etc.
Super excited for anything you guys will be putting out though, definitely the best reactors on CZcams.

My favorite thing to come out of the Badd Medicine channel is The Oak's character arc of being a Harry Potter skeptic to full on fanboy. And seeing him play Hogwarts Legacy is the cherry on top.
You‘re doing great, Oak! :) we’ve all had to get used to the controls. They are a lot, take your time to get used to them and you‘ll get there! Don‘t hesitate to look them up again in the settings when you‘re unsure. Or change them if you‘re having trouble.
Some helpful tips:
1. Your objective is on the left of the screen right above your map. It shows you what you have to do to pass the level or get to the next stage.
2. Use Revelio EVERYWHERE! There‘s chests and stuff hidden around Hogwarts, the world and missions as well that contain galleons, items or potions (which can be super helpful in case you‘re running low on wiggenweld during a mission for example ;)
3. There‘s going to be a lot of fighting in this game. Don‘t give up if you fail! You‘ll get used to the controls the more you play :) but if you do get stuck, you can change the difficulty in the settings I believe.
4. The castle is extremely book accurate and absolutely beautiful! Explore every inch and remember revelio ;)
5. This game is set in the year 1890! So 100 years before the events of Harry Potter and about 35 years before fantastic beasts! So you won‘t meet any characters from the movies (except for maybe some ghosts?). But recognise some familiar names ;)
6. You won‘t be able to get into the other common rooms (as it‘s said in the books) but do make sure to look them up here on CZcams, they are all sooo beautiful! Especially because we haven’t gotten a glimpse of the Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw common rooms in the movies. Though the Hufflepuff common room is, in my humble Hufflepuff opinion, the most beautiful one! It‘s so cozy

Hi oak. A bit of information here. Phineas Nigellus Black is in the books a tiny bit. He is the headmaster in the game so in the books he is one of the portraits on Dumbledores's office. Every headmaster of Hogwarts is in that office and they must be loyal and help the current headmaster. The rest you have to learn it by yourself.

“There’s gotta be an objective” I DIED 🤣
A few tips:
1. Revelio is your best. friend. Use it constantly!!! You’ll discover SO much more.
2. Protego is your other best friend 😂 you’ve already seen some great advice and info on this, but the protego-hold-stupefy is a really helpful tool when you’re battling multiple foes at once.
3. Basic cast (RT) is useful for practically everything. Highlighted objects throughout the world, like pottery and crystals, can be broken/collected by using basic cast. As you learn more spells, you’ll get used to throwing everything in the book at random things around the map to see what’s revealed 😂
4. This world is HUGE and the side quests are numerous. This game has so many hidden gems and exploration is your friend when trying to complete your field guide.
I’m so excited to continue watching you play Hogwarts Legacy! I’m 98% finished with my field guide and just trying to find the very last hidden pieces to complete it before going through the end of year feast and completing the main storyline.
Stoked to continue the journey! I’ll have more tips for you I’m sure 😛

your objective was above your mini map, cast protego to stupefy 3 times, and you chose to just dodge which is why enemies kept respawning.
Lots of little hidden things to search for. Pottery can be broken. Chests can be found. One of my favorite parts of these games.
There's just something about a guy who looks like Oak (that some people would probably stereotype as just a 'gym bro') but is actually just the sweetest dude who's having fun playing a videogame, that really gets me.
I never thought it would be so much fun watching someone lose over and over again while screaming through MY scream to wait for the yellow figures to come out for protego LOL!

There's only one game story I recommend for you guys to play. And that's the story of HALO. Get the 'Master Chief Collection' and play through the story. You guys won't regret it. You can even do the Campaign with the 4 of you. One mission at a time makes for great videos. Try it and see for yourself. You guys are awesome!!❤

watching him learn through the tutorial battle was so stressful and gratifying at the same time - he was using stupify so naturally before they tried to teach it, I wanted to just shout at the screen to watch for the halo queue and to keep doing what he did before! This was so much fun to watch and it really took me back to my first playthrough and all the awe and excitement of discovering everything about the game :)

Perfect timing, as they just released this on Switch, so all Switch console players will be playing alongside you - myself included! You’ll be hearing the word ‘revelio’ in your sleep you’ll be clicking that button so much in game, Oak 😅

Also sat here watching at 12:30am with my son fast asleep in the room trying not to shout at the tv 😂 “look for the symbol around you that’s when you protego!!!!” “Objectives are on the left!!!!!”So frustrating not being able to help!!!! The gamers curse!
If you notice on the lower left side, it showed your objective which is to use protego to stupefy 3 to times. It therefore kept giving you guys to fight because it wanted you to use/practice your protego timing at least 3 times so you can practice countering (which you need to hit when the little yellow thing shows up above your character's head - it's a timing mechanic.) You can also always roll dodge but it really helps to learn how to counter with a spell for later.
And I think you're hitting up on the directional pad that keeps popping up the message.
The problem with Oak's combat is that he's never played games like Spiderman, Arkham series or Shadow of Mordor so he doesn't know that the glowing effect above your head is an indicator to block or dodge an incoming attack, and since he doesn't know what the indicator is he just keeps getting smacked, I'm glad he caught on eventually tho lol. I'm sure he'll master the combat eventually.

@@davidbaye3758Ideally I think that’s what the first section of combat with the statues was supposed to show you, that once the orange circle appears around your head you have a very brief window of time to block an oncoming attack with protego. Your confusion was completely understandable since you flew through that part and the game never specifically explained it again, instead just moving on the next objective of wanting you to hold down the button to counter-attack with stupefy.
Considering there’s a ton of combat in the game, it’s a good thing to learn now since you’ll want to use it so regularly as it’s your only defensive spell. Sorry this is getting long but just so you’re aware, with some enemies you’ll also be introduced soon to a red circle above your head which means the only way not to lose health is to dodge quickly (which you’ve already been doing), and sometimes in rather quick succession.
Hope that’s in some way helpful, and fingers crossed might make the game less frustrating! At the end of the day we all (I’d hope) just want you to enjoy it! :)
TLDR:
Orange circle above head - oncoming attack, quickly use protego to block and optionally hold button down to counter-attack with stupefy. Alternatively, you could dodge.
Red circle above head - oncoming attack - no way to defend other than dodging.
@davidbaye3758 You're fine lol, honestly I blame the objective you had for not being specific enough. It said "hold Y while using protego to counterattack" when holding Y is protego.. It should have said "Hold Y to use protego and quickly attack to do a counterattack with stupefy". That also confused me on my first time playing the game. Once you get it down tho the combat is extremely easy, the hard part will be combo-ing difference spells in the heat of combat but dodging and blocking will not be an issue anymore.
I am so addicted to this game. I just keep restarting over and over and over.

Oh, how I've waited for Oak to play this game! The attention to detail is beyond amazing, for example at the beginning where we only got to see the Thestrals after we witnessed George's death. I'm on my third run (first Slytherin, then Hufflepuff, now Gryffindor) and it never gets boring, always ending up finding new little details I've missed before. I'm glad you guys are giving us gaming content now 💚🐍
I literally had to pause after a bit and go watch something else and come back after a break I wanted someone, anyone, to pop out of nowhere and explain how to get past that stupify training. I was screaming "IT SAYS IT ON THE SCREEN THERE IS A COUNTER!" lol
Man that soldier dude fight made me wish he had live streamed this so we could yell at him about using proteggo when his dude perked up.
Im not even a huge Harry Potter fan, I like it. But I dont think people that know me would call me a fan. But I have been loving this fuys "arc" lol

The in-game details are amazing. I just realized that in the opening scene, the character can only see the thestrals pulling the cart after the minster dies by the dragon.

I can see a future Red Dead Redemption 2 Playthrough!! It will suit you guys a lot since it's basically one of the best stories in a video game. (Just a recommendation) (If you didn't play it yet).

I love watching story gameplay videos that are 1-2 hours long with mostly no edits.
Other games like shooters or games that don't normally have a story, those videos are more enjoyable with shorter time
Oak becoming a Harry Potter Stan is one of my favorite things I've ever experienced on CZcams. I LOVE that you made this channel and that you are playing this game. Its amazing!
I may not know much about this game but i have watched my room mates play it and there are all sorts of references to not only the movies but the older games themselves that date all the way back to the ps1 games. Some spells and the castle exploration and puzzles really transfered over to this game but they outdid themselves. Its a loveletter to fans of the games, movies and books. Just an ultimate experience for HP fans. Love it!

1:15:25 The game playes before the "saga" we know so thats the reason they dont have any reocuring voices, but you can find a lot of the ancestors of the known charakters like voldemort or the weaslys

This is awesome!! Did you catch that your character was able to see thestrals right after George (ministry guy) was eaten by the dragon in the intro, therefore seeing death? Love little tidbits like that.
Ok, very important to know for later!) when you are going to be equipping gear like cloaks and scarfs you can equip it for stats and then change its appearance by clicking a special button if you don't like how it looks but you want better stats/level. You just need to look for that button.
And don't forget to use Revelio more often not to miss some cool object/interactions!
Personally i love that the video wasnt all chopped up and we got to see everything also we gamers know theres always a learning curve to new games, you'll get the hang of it!

So, I follow a bunch of reaction channels, and for the last two or three years, when it gets close to Christmas, if a video pops up that I'm particularly excited to see, instead of watching it then and there I put it on a little Christmas playlist to be enjoyed while I'm off work. This just went to the top of the list.
So this game was based around 100-150 years before Harry Potter was around, the headmaster is a descendent of Sirius black and you have a couple weasleys in there too!

you can also put up the strongest clothes on yourself and then "change the appearance" to whatever you like.
like, put up the strongest glasses and make them invisible so you look like like you want :)

This is fun. I love this game so much. It truly is a love letter to the fans. The opening scene still gives me chills. Mainly how your character see Thestrals is such a chefs kiss moment. My hubby isn’t a big HP fan but even he was impressed cause he knows the lore of how a person can see them.
Hi mate greetings from England. Just watched your video up to during your first solo fight lets just say it was entertaining and painful at the same time 😀. Hopefully you understand by now what your objectives were but just in case here goes. The warning messages that were coming up were because the game knew you were confused so was telling you to read your objectives again. It was trying to teach you two things basic blocking and stupify (stun), basically yellow warning around head, blockable attack, press yellow button. Later ublockables warnings are red so press red button to roll and move stick for direction. Later on enemy shields are also colour coded to show spell weaknesses. The game explains this so read the prompts. Second part of first solo combat was stupify from memory that was hold fire button for longer at times. The objective was to stun enemies so they drop to knees and take a lot more damage. You had to do that three times to complete it. So read the screen 😀. Number one rule in this type of game look around. Before the castle if you'd left the the prof for a second and gone the other way you would have found gold in a chest, another around a corner before entering the castle courtyard, and another to the right of the Gringots vault from memory. The one you found before the fight should have had gold but if it didn't it you maybe had to do the fight first, two more in the last room before Hogwarts. Revelio is vital in this game. My apologies if you understand all of this now but part way through your first fight I was suspecting you'd do it by accident and still have no idea what had happened. Don't worry about it mate I struggled at first (you were worse😀). I've only really been playing faster style third person games for the last few years regularly but I'm 53 so if I can get used to it no doubt you can. Not really a spoiler just a clue and they tell you the solution if you find the maths class there a piece of paper to pick up. The door puzzles start one number lower than you may naturally think. My apologies if you clicked in on all this by now but during your first solo fight you looked so lost. I'll watch the rest of your video now. Like I said it was entertaining and painful but it made me smile. Oh almost forgot the lit up pots were just for targeting for spell practice what you were locked onto at the time.
I now know you clicked a lot of what I said but hopefully I covered some stuff you didn't seem to get now know stupify was hold block/yellow as well. Professor Weasly is Harries friends Ron's ancestor and the headmaster is in the books as a magical portrait in Dumbledores office and is Harries godfathers ancestor. Michael Gambon the second Dumbledore also died a few months ago as well. He was one of the British actors that was almost a national treasure he seemed to be a definite character. As you mentioned film character links. When this game released I got so sick of the controversy around this game earlier this year I read all seven books back to back (think it was seven). Having never read them before apart from the second one that my Niece insisted I read as she had a spare one when she was young. Any writer who could make my niece want to read deserves credit in my book.

Oh man, ever since the first harry potter reaction I was hoping so hard for oak to play this game! I never thought you guys would actually do it on yt, so excited for this! Hope you like the game, I absolutely loved it, and can’t wait for the next parts and other games!!

So a few things that a lot of people don't realize. (1) Focus on the main storyline for awhile as you'll unlock a shopkeep you can sell things to since your clothing inventory is very limited and exploring too early will fill it up. (2) Any clothing you pick up unlocks its appearance and they can be easily changed so no reason not to upgrade/use the look you like. (3) Certain clothing like cloaks can have the hood up/down.
Love this! Hogwarts Legacy is based in 1890 so the likes of Hagrid and Snape wouldn't have been around yet. But the headmaster in this, Phineas Nigellus Black (voiced by Simon Pegg here) did feature in the HP books.
Where I first played the games months back like in August? I didn't know Phineas Black and said "Oh! An ancestor of Sirius's" But after reading the books (through audio because of my adhd) I was like.... "PHINEAS IS DA YOU!?"
