The main thing is always have good eye protection with or without the guard. A face shield is even better. And realize that shower of sparks eats holes in any fabric it hits. I've lost maybe 3 or 4 pairs of pants that way. Oh, and don't plug the thing in without checking if it's on if it's one of those that can be left in the on position. Otherwise you may see it race across the floor like a dog on a leash.
Yeah, I almost always wear a face shield. My shop is also super small (czcams.com/video/WuCeeo6IBFA/video.html), so depending on the type of wheel I'm using, I'll wear a respirator too. Oh yeah, I finally switched to almost exclusively cordless grinders, but I think we've all made that mistake once with electric tools lol. My most vivid memory was with a small sheet sander. It jumped and bounced all over the place before I could pull the plug!
