The Roland VH-13 is the best electronic hi-hat you can get. However, everyone seems to believe that the VH-13 is better than the predecessor model Roland VH-12. The truth is, they are almost identical.
I tested both hi-hats with my TD-30 module. I could hardly spot a difference.
If you ask me, I would recommend buying a second hand VH-12, instead of a VH-13 (new or used), since it is cheaper and so similar.
What is the difference between VH-12/13 and Roland VH-11?
The pressure sensor is an additional VH-12/13 feature. This feature changes the pitch of the hihat when pressing the pedal harder. You can see/hear it in this video.
The downside of VH-12/13 is the noise. They are much louder than the VH-11 when closing.

If you want to know if a specific pad is compatible with x module, google the user manual. Every module has all compatible pads listed. If the VH-12 is compatible, then the VH13 is compatible too...same sensors

Hey, dude. Thanks for your video. But I still have a question. I used my VH-12 hi-hat with Pearl HP-900 hi-hat stand. The rotation stopper/holder and the clamp fitted perfectly to this stand. But now this hi-hat stand works bad and I need to replace with other new one. I tried Mapex stand but my rotation stopper and clamp turned out to be really small for that middle part of Mapex stand where it should be mounted. Its’ middle part was too thick for my stopper and clamp. I couldn’t screw the bolt on the clamp. What could you advise me? What hi-hat stand should I buy to fit perfectly with my stopper and clamp? I thought all hi-hat stands have the same diameter of that middle part, but Mapex stand is thicker. What about Tama? Or Yamaha? I’m afraid to buy a stand and make a mistake being unable to mount a stopper on my new stand... help me plz
Great video! Love my VH-12, but the triggering is a lot smoother when using the TD-30 instead of my TD-12.
Right, the module makes a big difference. I wonder if there is a difference in triggering with TD-50 and VH-12 or 13.
Well, I think at least they have improved the response, hence they made an extra video of the hats when launching the TD-50. However, I still hope they gonna release the VH-15 soon, with a digital input just like the snare and the ride.
My exact sentiments. Very disappointed Roland didn't upgrade the hats to the digi-pad technology they used for the snare and ride on the TD-50KV. I mean the kit is $7500 ffs.
I think this could be a later upgrade. For now there is no need to have a digital hihat. The VH-12/13 has all functions needed.

My old VH12 silver is on the way out and cracked majorly at the striking edge. I was going to buy a VH-13 as replacement but will this work with my TD20x Module??

One wierd question: Do you know if the Vh-12 works on Td9 module? I know that it should work only with fd8+cy or Vh11, but I found one Vh12 for the same price as the vh11, and if it the vh12 works like the vh11 on the Td9 will be enough for me... and when I upgrade for a new module like Td50 or the Mimic Pro I will already have a great pair of hats :)

I think it will work, but not as good as the hihats that are actually made for it. I would still buy it if your plan is to upgrade the module later. The Pearl Mimic does not support the pressure feature, but the TD-50 does. I wrote a review and comparison about the 3 Roland hats: www.v-drumtips.com/roland-vh-13/
Will the VH-12 work on a TD-27 module, _with_ pressure / pitch control? The manual for the TD-27 only says the VH-13 works with that feature but it looks like they are electronically identical.
I just bought a VH-12 for my home made Drumkit. It seems that edge is not responding with my DDRUM DDTi (equal to Alesis IO). Is it Piezo/Piezo ?
I do have a question for you my friend. I bought an TD 50 soundmoduler and I own a VH 12, but ai think the VH 12 must be compatible with the VH 12. But I can't get an open sound on the TD 50, when I switch to the TD 30 everything is fine. I tried everything and I did everything the same as in the TD 30. So with the executing procedure etc. what did I do wrong? When I use SD 3 everything is working normal?
Have you set the TD-50 to VH-12? What firmware runs on your TD-50?
For the Hihat I choose the VH12 preset in the preset bank. Then I did the Hihat adjustments like in the TD 30 they are exactly the same. I only hear the close sound, every other pad cymbal is working fine. The Hihat is working fine on the TD 30 and within Superior Drummer 3 . The firmware is not the newest. 1.07 (0058) it is the version where it came with.
Make a backup and then reset the module. Import the backup and try again.
I already did but it didn't work. It's a brandnew module. It's very strange I think? But thanks for your ytip my friend! ;-)

I have a suggestion for a project I need help on. I don't want mesh heads because I like natural loud drums live, I don't want to use a edrum kit as they "feel" too different from my main kit and I don't want the crap sound of my kit muted when practicing at home.
Can I modify my drum (and cymbals) mute/silencer pads into electronic triggered mute pads that can mute my main kit and plug into an edrum brain so both me and my neighbors are happy when I practice and when I need to go to rehearsals or gigs I can just take the mute pads off the same as any other mute, so I have my un-triggered loud kit when live.
I think this is not working great, since the mute pads prevent the head from swinging. The trigger signal will be weak and inaccurate. If you like a natural rebound and feel, you should go for drum-tec Pro heads and any kind of trigger.
looks like for my move into a second HH for my td 20 kit will have to be an Addiotional VH12 w/ module 2 being a TD20 as well... you said the VH13 will not work....
Well, it will work, I tested it recently with a TD-20x. It is just not as good as a VH-12+TD-20.

Do these work with the Pearl epro R.E.D. Box module?
Most likely not. They are high-end hi-hats, made for only specific Roland modules. They do not even work well with entry level Roland modules, so it is not even worth trying I guess:(
I went down to my local Pearl dealer on Saturday and hooked up a set of VH-11's to my RED Box. After a very simple 5 second calibration, they worked perfectly well. Great stuff - can actually play a decent hi-hat again on my Pearl ePro kit!

The VH-13 works well with the Mimic, the VH-12 not so much.

Luis Nunez Let’s say it works. But the TD-4 is too weak for the VH-11. It does not pickup the full sponsor resolution.
I see.... What module do you recommend? I've been upgrading my TD4. I bought a Roland PDX-125 as snare and the VH12 which didn't work to well. Please keep in mind I'm trying to use VST drums only and not the actual module sounds. Just need the most compatible drum module

In your case a TD-12 would be good. It is compatible with the VH-12 (not perfect though) and has even positional sensing at the snare. But a TD-20X would even be better. The VH-12 does only work well with TDW-20, TD-20X, TD-30, 50 and MIMIC. If they are too expensive, sell the VH-12 and buy a VH-11 with a TD-9. They work perfekt together.

td-20とｖｈ-12の組み合わせで使ってましたが、ハットスプラッシュはこの動画のとうりまったく使い物になりませんでした。

紹介動画はハットスプラッシュの粗がめだたないようにプレイしたものばかりでまったく参考になりません。。
強いスプラッシュの後に弱いスプラッシュをやると前の強いスプラッシュの音がスパッといなくなるし、
鳴ったりならなかったりだし、、、技術的に難しいのはわかるんですが、これじゃ楽器と呼べないですよ。

Yeah Roland should have done a REAL upgrade for the hats on the TD-50KV. The kit is $7500. I'd expect digital hats at that price!
