  • There are two 12" Roland hihats that cost $310 and $430. Which is better? Is there even a difference?

    bought the vh-10 some months back. my first "not-a-pad-on-the-rack-with-a-crap-pedal" has been incredible when pair with a real hi-hat stand. before buying, i debated but in the end i was not convinced that the 11's minor metal upgrades were worth the extra money and i feel i made the right call. it feels great and i couldn't imagine preferring the older and heavier design. it enabled me to improve my actual hi-hat skills immensely in just days. happy customer.

    Good to hear and see you playing drums Justin.
    What kind of heads do you use on the drums? I ask because the converted acoustic to ekit at the church has heads from Jobecky and it feels like I'm playing on tennis rackets.
    Thanks for the review.
    My TD-12 kit came with a VH-11. I later upgraded to a VH-12, However the VH-11 triggered really well and the real reason I upgraded was for the feel of 2 cymbals.
    Also the VH-12 hat works well on my TDW-20 module.

    Hey Justin great vid!! Question; I notice your VH-11 setup has a decent amount of “travel” up/down space. I have the VH-11 and set it up via instructions in manual which only allows for very little travel space. It definitely doesn’t feel natural this way. Kind of “stiff”. It tracks just fine with SD3, EZ Drummer2. Do you find any triggering issues with the way you have it set up? Thanks!

    Hi Justin. I was wondering when you would compare these. I currently am using the TD-11 Module and was looking at upgrading from my VH-11 to VH-10. I found the feel of the VH-10 a bit well "Soft and Cheap Quality" compared to the more sturdy VH-11. However, the splashes were easier as the VH-10 is lighter. I kept the VH-11 as the older module seemed to work better with the VH-11. I am going to upgrade the module and I will be getting the VH-10 as it seemed to have better accurate triggering with the VH-10 on the TD-17 and 27 modules. The Hi-Hat is still a far cry from a real acoustic Hi-Hat and I would love to see Roland actually take a stab at a real 2 piece hi-that that feels proper. On a side note, the digital ride and snare are just awesome! I always hated the hotspot with positional sensing on the modules. I stuck with the TD-11 module as I am using the PD-128s Snare. The digital snares positional sensing is great. Great vid as always keep em' coming!

    Thanks for your video. I’m looking at getting a new mid to high end Roland kit have been using a vh11 on a Td 12 and found it to be a great up grade from the original Hi-hat . Looking at Td 27 and it comes with the vh 10 hhat. Is this a newer model hi hat ? Thought the numbers would go up ? My question is which kit do you recommend for house practice. I’m a professional drummer so want to get the right kit. You look like you play a lot of different electronic kits. Looked at the new yamahas but they seem a little lacking in the hi hat department.

    Everyone, on the "Loctite" use the "BLUE" loctite. The "RED" loctite, it'll be very difficult to take apart later. The red is the strong stuff and the blue is medium strength.

    • @BillDiMarco
      @BillDiMarco Před 5 lety +2

      yeah people make sure you check up on the loctite versions and make sure its not a permanent bonder! start from the weakest needed to keep it secure then move on to stronger if you are still having issues being a beat to your hats. you don't want to end up with effectively a welded hihat rod!

      Greetings Justin, Billy☺✌ "Blue" Loctite is fine and slightly over engineered in a good way. I use blue loctite for my alignment bolts on my 2JZGE SC300 sports car differential for racing and back again for city driving. I can snap it loose with slight effort (on and off) make sure you clean the threads before each applications. The thread sealant tape that plumbers use is the most conservative approach. I'm old school, I don't mind that every now and then my drums move, hi hats spins. I like the ritual of re-arranging the set, makes me feel good. Hope that helps. Thank you for you're channel Justin, I believe Edrumming will only get larger and you will be an OG in this. ☺✌🌟🎵🎶

      @@inlasttonowhere4459 Thanks for your insight! I know the materials but I meant for others who don't know. I think it's still sound advice to start from the weakest bond necessary (including the tape) more because it's hard to get good torque on a hihat rod. Even a weaker bond could be a pain to remove for some ppl!

    To me none of the major players get the hi hat right with dynamics and foot splashing and opening closing transitions while they are getting better there not there yet Im considering going with quiet tones for more realistic play

    *Update, I bought a VH-11 and that works great, you can use the cables that come with the VH-11 and it plugs and plays without problem, no soldering or changing cables around.

    • @drewmusselman
      @drewmusselman Před 4 lety

      rob1 the Vh-11’s are more responsive and play better with the triggering, it registers faster than the Alesis Strike Pro SE, but at the end of the day it’s it’s still has a limited trigger point vs real hi-hats. Overall I like it better, it’s seems like a worthwhile investment. I’m not sure if the VH-13’s would even be better (I assume they would, but I am not sure of their compatibility)

    Hey dude. First off thanks for all that you do for us drummers. Question. I have an Alesis Strike Pro SE kit and not really a fan of the hihats. I have tried messing around with settings (After some research) and it still doesnt trigger sometimes. Ergo I am thinking of upgrading so after watching your videos I assume the vh10 is compatible with the Strike module? Is this correct and if so how much of an upgrade is it? Is it worth the money to upgrade?

      I also have a Strike Module and have tried the Goe-Drum controller, which was a minor improvement. But still not as responsive as I'd like. So I'm looking to pick up a TD-10, but wonder about compatibility with the Strike module.

    Our church just bought a TD17 KVX and I am not very happy with the response of the hi-hats (VH10). I did the calibration etc, but it seems really hard to get quick "open" accents on the hats (can't get the response like you do at 5:55). I also adjust the plastic part you spin on top of the cymbal to no avail. Any suggestions?

      shady xyz I haven’t used the vh 11, I’m not the biggest fan of the vh 10, I’ve calibrated it as best as I can, sometimes opening and closing isn’t that accurate, I’ve read its cause the lower end kits lack what’s called transmuting. I would give the vh 11 a go

    Hey Justin - Do you know if the VH-10 is compatible with the Strike module? Will it be an improvement over my current setup (a Goe-Drum controller paired with a basic dual zone Alesis cymbal pad) I'm also using Superior Drummer3, so I will have more parameters for fine tuning the control.

    Hi, Justin! Love your channel! Question-I just bought a VH-10 and have one question to ask to make sure my hats aren’t defective. When clamped to the hi hat rod, which is tightened well and doesn’t turn, if I hold the edge of the hat and gently try to move it side to side laterally, it isn’t fixed in position but moves either way about an inch or inch and a half. Does mine have too much play laterally? Or is that normal?
    I know this may sound silly, but my VH-10 doesn’t seem to be very accurate and I’m wondering if the play I notice is a clue that they have a manufacturing defect.
    Thanks, Justin!

    • @drumsonly44
      @drumsonly44 Před 4 lety

      have you calibrated it using the built-in hi hat settings? ive found the vh-10 isnt that accurate as well. especially when choking, because the hat sways it moves the hi hat module and it thinks the hats closing slightly. I've read online its because they lack 'transmuting'
