i would recommend you buy the td27kv version 2
which can now be found for about 2800 euros plus a snare stand , a pedal and a hi hat stand
it includes both better crashes and the digital hi hat
Great video! Just ordered the TD-27KV2 and I can't wait for the delivery date.
This is a really good demonstration of the characteristics as well as the variations of sounds you get from these usb cymbals.
Thanks for the video and links. Purchasing v2 that comes with the new hi-hat. D14
No way am I spending over a $1000 for Hi Hats. Such a shame they have to charge that amount of money for Hi Hats
RnD bro thats what it costs but after 10 years everything will be cheaper
@@xPoisonDashx unless inflation keeps going the way it is 😮
Crazy
I feel like they priced them this high to make the new kits with these seem like a good deal to boost those sales
It's roland. It's just how they are.
Hey cooper, I looking for a new e-kit to buy and the you have is the perfect one. Thank you 🙏
You are an awesome Drummer Mr Cooper!! Great sharing!! I'm just Beggin looking for a sponsorship of you Mr Cooper!!
Love and respect Kyle!! 😊🥁🇵🇭
Thanks man !
I just got the TD27 module and the Digital snare and love that, next I want the digital hi hats, but geeeez are they expensive...lol
I don't know anywhere that has them to try them, so I go off you guys here on CZcams.
I have the 10's and 11's and they both have bizzare issues with the TD 27 for some reason.
I bought the TD 17 Kvx and my 10's hi hats came with that, and I don't have the same issue on the TD17 as I do with the TD27.
I tweeked it every way I can too !!!
There's just something off...
I basically put extra cymbols around the kit with the TD 17 and use the TD27 as the main module, especially because of the digital snare !!!
I'd put the hi hats on the 17 but that'd kinda suck to switch drum sounds.
A pain in the rear end...
Hehehehehehehe
I didn't update either module yet, so I'm hoping to do that as soon as possible and hope it gets fixed by doing so.
But thanks for the great review !!!
I want the digital hi hats super bad now, especially after seeing your face and attitude watching you play !!!
That says it all...lol
Thanks again !
Savin pennies !!!
Hehehehehe
Have a wonderful day !!!!
:-)
Ps. Great playing by the way !!!!!
👍👍👍👍👍
Awesome review video. I love the electric drum set
I have the td-17 with the vh-10 hi hats and just love them both,I basically have the vad306,it’s a great practice kit for me,I never gig with it,it just stays at home, thanks for your input on those hi hats tho, hopefully the in next video you can talk about the 18” digital ride?
If people stop buying all this expensive stuff they will be forced to lower the prices lol but people keep falling for the foolishness and open their wallet. All of this stuff is way too expensive and I’m constantly confused on where people are getting all this money to buy half of this stuff 😂😂😂
Maybe I realize my dream.
I'd like to have only one of those drums.
You rock, man.
I'm from Brazil. I like your CZcams Channel.
Sick video
Would you be able to share your settings on the hi hat? I’m having trouble with mine not going from closed sounds to open sounds easily enough.
Bought brand new pd140ds and vh-14d together for $1200 from Japan. Shipping included. At that price I would say its worth it
Hey buddy. Can you help with how you purchased it?
i bought this kit when it first came out have played it everyday for over a year, i beat the crap out of it and i have NEVER had a single issue, this kit is a DREAM. greatest investment i have ever made.
Alesis 👦 new sub. Love e-drum content.
Binge watching ekit videos lol! How do you find these hihats vs the Alesis Strata Prime? Since that's also single top similar to the VH-10.
very interesting, I bought a TD27 1 year ago and I'm happy with (I had a TD-5 for 20 years). I noticed that the original Hi-hat isn't perfectly working, so this is great upgrade. I thought 1st to replace the bass drum as this deserve a better one as well, but this new hi-hat could be a better choice. What do you think about the bass drum btw ?
I think the bass drum works well, maybe not THE best, but would definitely prefer the hi-hat upgrade.
The best compromise IMO for a HH is buying a used VH13 if you like having two cymbals because I for sure do. If you can’t afford the new digital HH.
Very helpful. I have a Roland TD27-KV, and never liked the VH-10 HH that came with it. It's the pad that has one "cymbal" on top and you push it down on an electronic sensor (a can). Terrible response. Then it failed. A friend loaned me the VH12... which was only slightly better (it had 2 pads, one clamping down on the other, but it's still analog). It has a better but still sluggish response, and I don't feel it provides accurate sounds for the position of the HH. I have to "cheat" it, and "feel around" to get the right open sound. Frustrating. Thinking of biting the bullet on the digital VH14, but dang that's a sum of cash for a pad.
Thanks for doing this review! I have the VH-10 hats and have been struggling to dial it in with my acoustically trained foot! Could you summarize what you did to improve it?
I found a firmer base support on it helped with its triggering. (Might not be your issue) Definitely couldn’t get them to feel anywhere near as natural as the digital upgrade which is why I have to say that it is worth the upgrade, just not something that you HAVE to have as the VH-10 is still pretty good. It just can’t compete overall lol
Thankyou for the great video… I have the VAD 506 kit with the td 27 module and I was wondering… if I removed my vh-10 hi hat and replaced it with the new 14 digital can the 1/4 in jacks used on the vh10 be used to connect to another cymbal pad?
Hi John, I think that should totally possible. I’ve done the same thing with alesis cymbals on my td27. I have them connect with 1/4 cables to the the aux cymbal ports on the module. I’m assuming the vh10s will work the same just will take some midi note assigning
The price is outrageous!
There nice....I got a pair for 712.00 on ebay from Japan brand new shipping was about 2 weeks though
Any issues paying duty taxes?
Now with the KV2 sitting at $2,999 all month it's a good time to jump on the kit.
That look more like a model 50. Those toms and stand do not look like a 27. What high hat stand are you using tat is so sensible?
Good bro
Why are you playing it sideways?
The Roland logo is the back. The front is what you are supposed to play
I'm almost sure it has a 360o playability tho.
I own a td-27 module with all 3 Digital units. I must tell you there is a night and day difference with all 3! However, the hi-hat was the weakest link on any e-drums. I live in a basement suite so having an acoustic kit is out of the question! The VH-14d is the cat's ass! Yes, it's expensive but for actual playability to hit what you want it feels and works as close as you can get to an acoustic hi-hat! Trust me the money is worth every penny! For the jam rooms with the band, I have my own Cymbals, Hi-hat, and snare. For gigs, I will use my Roland for three main reasons. 1) I do not need to mic the kit. 2) for a small venue I can keep my volume down! 3) it's far more portable than an acoustic kit! Acoustic kits can really be too loud for a small venue. I have a 200-watt Traynor floor monitor for drums. The sound comes from behind the band as an acoustic kit does and you can mic it or do a line to the pa from the module with it. Also, I can build several kits for the different cover songs we do! I still use the acoustic kit in the jam room simply because all I need to take is my 2 gig bags and my bass pedal packing the whole kit is a nightmare. Live the Roland is my definite choice but of course, the actual acoustic kit is always timeless.
Is the vh14 compatible w The Strike Pro module? (Alesis)
no, just Roland td-27 or td-50
For those with the first gen TD-27kv with the VH-10 hi hats, will we be able to upgrade to these new digital ones with ease? Or are we SOL
Immediately the best hi-hat I’ve ever seen on an e-kit, but why such a high price???? At that point just get an acoustic one
You need to compare with VH 12's, you can do a lot of the same talking points you had.
Do they work with superior drummer
Yes. You can also set them to 3 zone triggering if you have enough articulations in your SD3 library
For best results you should have the Roland Logo away from you so the triggers act properly. You probably already found this out . Planning on getting these soon. !!
Okay, I've got the vh14d, and randomly while I'm playing, the choke sensor employs, and the only way to get it not to choke is to turn the module off and back on, or turn the choke feature completely off, but then you can't choke it with your hand. Who else is having this problem? BS for $1,000 hi-hat!!!
Same here Donkalil i'm having the same problem. I bought my Roland VAD 507 with that hi hat in November 2023 and i started having that problem in March 2024. I never choke the hi hat so i had no problem shutting off the Choke sensor. Just make sure the little dot on the top hat is align with the little dot on the bottom hat. I don't or haven't heard when Roland will fix that problem with an update.
Can i link the vh14d on the td17 module?
Honestly, dude, it just seems like you’re shilling for them. All you had to do is play some 16th notes and gradually open the hat from fully closed to open to show that they still absolutely suck at having a linear progression of more or less wash. Having that is totally essential for any kind of tasteful drumming in a band context. Electronic high hats still have a long way to go.
sponsored by sweetwater ...... there goes the legitimacy of the vid
Are you payed by Roland?
I don't like em'. The comparisons sounded identical. They still haven't mastered the zones where the hats are slushy and hot to the touch by amount of force used. Almost closed, to be clear. That's a very erotic zone for the hi hat, and these things that cost over a thousand dollars comes nowhere near that ability. If I ever get an e-kit I like, I'll be using low volume hats, or normal volume hats, I'll then mic the real hats with a homemade baffle of foam, makeshift style, and set up a conservative dialed in noise gate to prevent mesh and rubber room tone hits on the microphone. F the neighbors. If I need an 808 hat, I'll overdub it. Problem solved. A little troubleshooting and actual thinking can save everyone twelve HUNDY dollars!
I had rhe Roland td27. The hi hats sucked
Definitely super frustrated with the hi hat as well on the 27
For 1000$ sounds like crap😂
…do you know how electronic drums work dude?
@@spencermarcotte1494 Stupid question. I have one TD-17KV. With our technological progress we can create better e-drums sounds and better hardware than this crap.
@@danield2398 I have these hats hooked up to a TD27 as part of the VAD507 set. They're outstanding. You can endlessly tweak and set the sound, decay, tone, foot splash sensitivity, calibrate the pedal pressure...
Takes a while to get it the way you like it but the settings are all there. Then if you want to take it a step further you can trigger them into superior drummer or ezdrummer and they work multi zone triggering.
The hardware Roland have put together is the best out there.
The defaul kit sounds are .... oK. I'd say only use them if you can't be bothered with the set up time but it's time well spent.
@@typhoon-7 honestly really insane to me that someone could drop 3k on a kit but not be bothered to click like.. 7 buttons to make a vst work
@@lowaimnobrainwell let’s see good computer with an interface would be needed then we have to buy a DAW program and a vst plugin, then we need cables so now we’re at 4K
Roland drums are overpriced!
worth it
I'd love to get a set of these but the price is prohibitive. But you can really hear the difference in articulation and realism over not just the VH-12's but even the VH-13's. I bought Rolands digital pack instead of a Mimic just before the pandemic because there was nothing like it at the time. Still it was a really hard decision between the two. So I bought SSD5.5 to make up for the serious sound deficit. But to this day I never regretted getting the digital pads. Now there are some serious competitors on the market. Everyone's excited about the DWe coming out next year too. Which if it's everything DW promises it to be will once again put Roland way ahead of the pack. We will see. If it is I may have to sell all of my e-gear and some of my acoustic kits just to put a down payment on it if DW and Roland prices are any indicator of it's price point. I'll go out on a limb and say it's a sure bet it's going to cost a pretty penny.
Honestly, the digital seems to be like such a waste of money I mean yeah you get rid of the wires but like it’s really too expensive right now I’d rather get like a nice set up a new high hats that are a lot more responsive like this
@@JayDillDrums I get where you're coming from but if my digital snare and ride are any indication they are miles ahead of my PD-128 pads and the CY15R ride. And the PD-128 pads are awesome so that's really saying something. However, I have not tried the VH-14 hats so I can't really say. But my friends that have them are all saying the same thing. "It's incredible. Get it if you can." Electronic drums are expensive even when DIY'ing it. I can tell like me you've been doing this awhile so you know it really comes down to what you need, what you can afford and how you maximize what you have. That's why I never critique how other drummers are doing it.
