    The Zoom H8 Handy Recorder represents the next step forward in portable recording technology. Boasting four XLR inputs, two XLR/TRS inputs, and ultra-clear microphone preamps, the H8 can capture high-quality audio from almost any source. Like its predecessor, the H8 features an XY mic module and Zoom's interchangeable capsule system. You can swap out microphone arrays and add extra inputs with optional modules. It records up to 12 tracks in crystal clear 24-bit/96kHz audio resolution, so your listeners feel like they're right there with you. And to top it all off, the Zoom H8 12-track Handy Recorder doubles as a USB audio interface for recording straight into a DAW.

    Thank you for this very clear, informative yet easy-to-understand video. At 1:13, though, you say the switch on 1,2,3,and 4 is for level or mic level, but it is actually the 20 decibel padding, not a line/mic level switch. Aren't you confusing the two? Or can this switch be altered in Settings? ... One question: Can all channels record at 24-bit/96kbps? The H6 can do 24/96 only in stereo mode. In multi-track mode, it is limited to 16/48. It is a little hard to figure this out from Zoom's promotionals, so I want to know clearly when the H8 cannot record at the 24/96 level. Is it available throughout every configuration? Thank you.

      @sweetwater  Před 10 měsíci

      Hey, Adam! The Zoom H8 is not support for recording to a phone at all, that would be Android or iOS. If you’re wanting to do any type of recording, I would highly recommend either doing so via USB into a computer or recording directly to SD on the recorder itself.

    We already have a Mackie pro mixer 16. But we can't record individual tracks. Based on what you're saying here, we could run an extra cord out of that mixer into this box and it would record individual tracks. Am I hearing that properly? This way we can edit individual tracks in a DAW or other software, right?

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  Před rokem

      Hey, Michael! The H8 has the ability to be a multitrack interface given that if you sent individual tracks in to it, it can track those individually over USB. If you don’t send individual tracks in to the H8, however, it has no way to separate them. If you sent a summed stereo output or mono out from the Mackie in to the H8, you would still be stuck with that summed mix.
      I hope this helps! Feel free to reach out if you’d like to discuss possible solutions.

    Is it possible to turn on phantom power only on one input? 🤔

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  Před 3 lety

      Hey, Tsvetan! The phantom power is shared by all of the inputs so you can't select specific inputs to apply it to. You can run phantom power to a dynamic mic that doesn't need it without damaging the mic, though. There are some ribbon mics and special use mics that could be damaged by this, but you won't need to worry about that with your dynamic XLR mic.

      Depends on what you're recording, and whether 12 tracks is enough. In a studio, on a budget, I'd use something like a Tascam US 16X8 which gives you 16 tracks and is a hundred bucks cheaper... but out where you have no electricity, this thing would be absolutely KILLER.

It also works with other mixing software after all the final product from the H8 is on SD card.

  • @theguitarsofmatthewgrasso

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  Před 3 lety

      Thanks for reaching out! You could definitely send the summed output from the H8 to the Q8. You would just connect the line output on the H8 to one of the 1/4" line inputs on the Q8. The only downside to this is that your mic tracks will be combined before going in to your Q8, so you won't get the same multi-tracking benefits that you get when using the H8's USB/SD features.

    Working with the Zoom H8- sorry the manual don’t do a good job of explaining anything. I need help understanding the file structure- I want a easy step by step understanding of how projects and files work or are recorded-
    It appears it’s best to name a file first before recording- but I’m missing something - created two files but both have the same file number. I’m utterly confused here.

    How's the preamps quality for recording direct guitar ?

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey, Roy! Recording direct in with guitar is nice and clean, you just need to switch to Hi-Z mode. There are a ton of effects you can choose from, too, or you can use your own rig. Let me know if you have any questions!

    Is the limiter digital or analog? Are the preamps the same the H6? How does it compare to the rodecaster pro?

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  Před 4 lety +1

      Great question! The effects on the H8 are digital, and the preamps are the same as those on the H6. We are happy to help you find the best interface and recorder for your needs, so feel free to give us a call for a more in-depth comparison on those units. Thanks!

      I have the Rodecaster Pro and the H8. The H8 is definitely better in terms of preamps. Check the CZcams review of the H8 by Curtis Judd. The H8 powers the Sm7b with no issues. The Rodecaster becomes noisy at that level (55db)

      Check the CZcams review by Curtis Judd. The H8 has better preamps than the H6. The H8 can power an sm7b without introducing noise. The H6 gets quite noisy.

      Hey there! Thanks for reaching out, it's Mickey from Sweetwater! The Zoom H8 can accept the EXH-6, though it will not fit in any of the H8 cases with the attachment connected. Other than that, it should be smooth sailing for you! Any other questions, give us a call!

    Zoom makes great affordable recorders.

    That would also take up LESS space when plugged all in.
