    I have a Livetrack L20. As the commands are the same as the L12, your tutorials help me a lot. The detailed and calm way you explain it is the best. I've seen several presentations, which are also good, but, honestly, yours are really excellent. Thank you for that.

    Man...turning the "record level meter" on was SO helpful for me. I'm using a TD 30 drum module and the signal comes in super hot; as in "no gain" and still clipping (have to adjust using the faders on the module itself). That meter makes all the difference...way easier to fine tune now. Thanks!

    • @sugarcanerush
      @sugarcanerush  Před měsícem +1

      Yes, when I first got the board, that function was turned off. I had a hard time just looking at the small LED light to get a level. Once I found it, everything was much easier!

      Anson, thanks for listening! Make sure to browse our music! Feel free to share and comment!
      The L20 should do great for tracking live performance. the quickest tips I can give you are:
      1. make sure you have a good gain balance on your inputs (mics, direct ins from amps etc) Remember once the band starts playing the volume levels will go up!
      2. Have a large enough SD card to record the whole event.
      3. if you are using it for PA at the same time, remember the faders are for the balance going out and for headphone and monitor mixes. The recording balance is only controlled by the gain input (watch the SIG LEDs that they don't go into the red!
      4. Once you have a mix, eq and effects you like, save it to a scene. It will give you a great start next time you do it again.
      Good luck! let me know how you did!

    Thank you for this video! I agree with all the pain-points - I've given up on renaming projects on the L-12. I've also mis-clicked the rewind button several times and ended up recording on a different project. I learned today that I needed to toggle overdub + record + arming channels + lay to actually do an overdub, I would have never figured that out by myself without watching this. Cheers!

    The LED-match is a positively ancient preset method, a real throwback to the 1970s. I haven’t seen that in use for at least 40 years. I don’t know the cost of this thing but it must be ridiculously cheap to use this tech. Just guessing, I’d say it gets you to within 2db or so which is ‘ballpark.’ It is such a surprise to see such design in 2024. If the price is right, then it is a good thing.

    • @sugarcanerush
      @sugarcanerush  Před 8 měsíci

      Yes, you are right! I remember working for a local recording studio in Miami back in early 80s when this technology was considered leading edge!
      This board / recorder is relatively inexpensive. I paid $ 600 USD about 5 years ago. It is very versatile in that it works well for PA board for small venues, It had a very good on board multitrack recorder and it works really well as an Audio interface. The 5 separate monitor out with individual mixing is a plus also!

    Great videos! Could you plaese do a tutorial how to use your Z-12 together with your software and how to connect/record to a seperate channel (on the Z-12) to a computer? In other words: How do I use my Z-12 as a DAW and make it function?

    • @sugarcanerush
      @sugarcanerush  Před rokem +2

      Robert, thanks for listening to the tutorials and I hope you explore our music also!
      The L-12 makes a great Digital Audio Interface. If you have a good recording program in your computer, you can send all the channels in your board to your software and record independent tracks. The limitation to how many tracks you can record depends on the software and the capacity of your computer.
      I am considering doing a tutorial on using the L-12 as an audio interface, but it will take me a while to put it together.
      I use Cakewalk and a PC (HP). Most of the music in our channel was recorded using the audio interface.
      As soon as I can I will let you know when I can have the tutorial.

    Very helpful - thanks for all your work! Questions:
    - When you have several different individual tracks recorded and saved in a project on the SD card (as in your example of "Just a Closer Walk With Thee"), and then do a Master mix "overdub" recording, does this process overwrite the individual tracks? Or does the SD card simply store the recorded Master mix as a separate "track" on the SD card, leaving the original, separate tracks untouched?
    - Perhaps asked a different way: does each project recorded onto the SD card include one track corresponding to each of the different tracks on the mixer (max of 11 total: 1-8, 9/10, 11/12, and Master), such that each of these tracks is its own entity, and not affected by anything that happens to any of the other tracks?
    - If so, if you wanted to experiment with different Master mixes and record each of them so they could be compared with each other, can you do that within the same project? Or do you only get one Master "track" on the SD card for each project, such that any comps would have to be done by recording the alternate Master track mixes to separate projects?

    • @sugarcanerush
      @sugarcanerush  Před rokem +1

      You get one "master mix" stereo track per project. The individual tracks are not affected. The only thing you could do is copy the master track to your computer and then re record the master track again with a different mix. Just remember to use the Overdub option. Tracks 1 - 12 can be mixed to the master track but you cannot record a mix to any other track.
      I hope this helps.

      @@MichaelDaniels You’re right about that like an MP3 player will have everything you’ve done so yeah I would assume the L 20 and out 12 pretty much he recorded it on one of the other it’ll show up but the LA now but it doesn’t matter because Ellie does stuff that the other ones down it’s really quite amazing what it can do but they’re all good my only problem is the slot the pushing in and out eventually where is that’s where I’ve had the biggest problem sd card especially when you have to remove it a lot. So these are great but fair warning to try to get it fixed or something impossible I mean they probably don’t castle out of here thank God it’s probably worth nothing fix but do not buy a new one don’t be tempted like I did but that is my main issue I’ve noticed and I wipe these things down like a new born baby, Turn the matter how are you take care of it to me the two-year mark three if you’re lucky that’s not even using it a lot eventually it starts to give away unless you’re a computer expert and you get these cards changed a lot I even had extensions which card extenders LCM on Amazon and they were but it’s not that won’t help you in the end trust me that’s the only flaw I wish they just stuck with a USB sticks with everything everything

    Hooray got it, any recommendations of tracks for a drum machine and v-drums presently using T2. My reason for asking is your comment about these items being damaged when the red nobs are pressed. (Like your recordings super, sense a touch of Caribbean feel lol). Also looks like the sd cards I used on the previous zoomR24 are not being read on the L12. Hence I thought one could have edited etc on this zoom.

    Is it possible to start recording sometime later in the song? Say you want to just record a guitar solo on a separate track so you won’t have to redo everything because not happy with the solo…
    Also, can you add a track into the project? Say I have an old demo/phone recording I wish to record over… I wish to import that into track 12 (for instance) and do a proper recording over it…
    I’ve just ordered one of these and try to take in as much I can before it arrives to start planning how to do projects…

    • @sugarcanerush
      @sugarcanerush  Před rokem +2

      You can do "punch ins" anywhere on the track. Rewind your song using the rotary knob until you get to the point you want to start recording. Press the record button on the track you wish to record, press the overdub button and when ready press the play button to hear the track and then press the record button when you want to start recording. You can get a footswitch to start recording to make it easier. You can add a track to the project direct from your phone using the right adapter. Then you overdub as many tracks as there are open to add to the prerecorded track. I do that all the time when someone wants me to add a bass part to their project, they send me a stereo mix without bass, I record to 11/12 and then overdub my bass part.

    how do you share files back and forth

    • @sugarcanerush
      @sugarcanerush  Před 6 měsíci

      The short answer is that when you record to the board, the individual tracks get saved to your SD memory card in the board. After you finish recording you can either take the card out of the board and insert in your computer (if you have a card reader). Then you can copy your files to your computer and use a file transfer website like "We Transfer" or "Dropbox" to send large files to anyone. Another way to transfer the tracks to your computer is to set the board mode switch to "Card Reader" this way you will see the contents of the card on your computer allowing you to copy and again use a file transfer site to send large files.
      I will be doing a video on this very soon. I will show how we record the drums and how the drummer sends the files to me for mixing.
      Hope this helps.

      Hello, so does it mean only 1 type of fx for each channel? . I’m thinking of buying this device, and don’t want to get tricked or disappointed
      Thanks again

    I'd like to learn how to add one track at a time while playing a rhythm track

    • @sugarcanerush
      @sugarcanerush  Před rokem +1

      Jon, if you mean to first record a rhythm track and then add more tracks, it would be the same way I did on the video. First record the rhythm, then set that track to play and record the other tracks as overdubs. What we do when we do remote collaboration is first, we record a stereo track with both drums and bass, then we add individual tracks as needed.

    Can I ask one more question? As I have received the L-12 I've been trying to make a demo-song just to familiarize with the unit. So start with a clean slate, start a new project, rename it and record the first track... but if I'm not happy with the first recording and wish to overwrite this the L-12 just starts a new project with this random date/time name, so I have to delete it and select my purposely made project. To avoid this I need to record a second track and use overdub... surely there must be a way where I don't have to go delete projects because let's face it... my guitar skills drop when that rec button is active and it's a lot of extra work deleting projects I didn't ask for... Any pointers?

      Man, I feel your pain! But no problem the solution is easy. Always once you start a new project and record the first track, from that point on you have to use the overdub button, the track record and the main record at the same time to record again. This includes overwriting the first track that you are not happy with. So if you record on track one as the first track on your new project but do not like and and want to re record over it, just treat it as an overdub and press overdub, press the record button on track one, the one you just recorded and press the main record. Now when you are ready you can record over the bad track by just pressing play and record again. This will record over the first track. It's not easy to explain here but I hope this helps.

      @@JksGuitarCave It’s actually a very good unit and he’s correct man you just overdubbed these cards do you have a problem don’t skimp out on the cards get the best But if you do over double lot you start to notice that it takes longer for the hourglass spinning for it to say meaning it’s almost like celluloid basically but not your overdubbing too much but yes that’s a way to do it when DAW start to get older they can make these things just as good OK they could do anything the reason why is because the market right now is in computers in DAwS
