Great review, there's very few reviews on this particular jacket so appreciate this!

Reminder: this is the slim fit rain gear option not really made for heavy layering. Most all of the reviews are people who didn’t bother to read that ahead of buying one and were upset. The Slate Sky is minimalist durable rain gear.. it’s slim fit meant to be worn with an undershirt and maybe mid layer if way cold.
Don’t buy it if you don’t like slim cuts, literally every other piece of rain gear Patagonia makes is baggy to accommodate layering m, this would be the one that isn’t.

Thank you, I often do try to explain that lighter weight hardshells are better over lighter weight layers. And heavy weight shells are cut larger for heavier layers in harsh conditions. It makes sense to me.....

Hey Chris, Patagonia says this jacket is a "slim fit". Did you size up or went TTS like Torrentshell for layering?
I'm torn between this and the Torrentshell.. Is it worth the extra $20 for the Netplus material over Torrentshell? Also, there is no lower hoodie drawcord on the Slate Sky..

It is a trimmer fit than the torrentshell, all of the jackets that I am reviewing are the same size. (XL for me) With that said, the torrentshell is cut a bit bigger as it is made to fit over layers. The slate sky is a bit trimmer, and much lighter weight. I think of the torrentshell being used more for colder weather over layers, and the slate sky being much lighter and trimmer, being used for warmer weather with a tee-shirt of light fleece under it. The netplus is not a big deal, I would just consider how you want to use the jacket, and realize that the torrentshell is a heavier more durable piece than the slate sky. Just depends on your needs and use. To be honest, I like the Granite Crest the best.... Lightweight, packable, room for layers, pit zips, and very versatile. Kind of that middle ground between the two with a lot of nice features. Sorry, I don't mean to confuse you.🙂 It all depends on how you want to use it.

@@meandmyjackets Not at all, Chris! Thanks a bunch for giving much deeper insights into the selection of jacket for different climate, of which I forgot to take into account of. Putting aside Granite Crest (due to budget), for 5C to 15C mild rain, cold windy weather, which jacket would you recommend? I mainly use it for commuting, hiking, and daily use.

@@user-hs1ky3sx9b The Torrentshell! It will be a great all-round jacket for you.
