- In this episode of the 'Twilight Zone REVIEW Marathon' we'll dive into the disturbing Season 4 premier, 'In His Image.' This haunting tale by veteran 'Twilight Zone' writer, Charles Beaumont launched the one hour episodes, which were unique to this season only.
Alan Talbot is having a very serious crisis...he's hearing strange sounds, he's having murderous urges...and that's just the start of his nightmare. George Grizzard and Gale Kobe star in this shocking Season 4 opener.

Another excellent episode of FDT. The violent opener reminded me of a noir I saw recently called Hangover Square. That also has a central character that has homicidal / memory issues and it has one of the most violent and shocking opening scenes I ever witnessed, just like this TZ story. Definitely worth checking out if you haven't already. Really enjoyed your rundown and had a few good chuckles along the way. I thank you for that, my friend. Awesome work as always!
Okay wow, ' Hangover Square' sounds like an absolute must watch, thanks Greg. Also, I really do appreciate the support man, you are true friend dude and it is much appreciated. Thank you.
Always fun when a new vid is up! I haven't watched this ep in a while, so this was a great refresher. Awesome vid as always! 🎉
I hear you, its been a little while. Glad to be back at it. Thanks dowsingelf77! Have a great day ahead!
😮There was a season 4? I don't think I've ever seen even one episode. Especially this one- I would have remembered. Better check these episodes out. Thanks for covering this Anthony 😊
Hey Nye! 😁 yeah I hear you, ha ha season 4 feels like pretty much the least watched season. Thanks for checking in, have a nice week ahead.
Only seen a couple of Season 4 episodes and this wasn't one of them. The one I really remember was the Robert Duvall one with the dolls house. This looks like a good one. Exceptional video as always Anthony. Bravo
Hey Terence! Much thanks for checking in as always. The one you are speaking of is 'Miniature' with Robert Duvall...another good one.
An android, A Walter, a switch up...hmmm *stares at Alien Covenant lol Another great video FDT!
Heeey Bisness! Ah yes.....Alien Covenant...good catch. Much thanks man! 🤜🤛
This is one of my favorite episodes. Probably top three. Walter's whole speech about why Alan exists and just what happened to him just hits me in the guts. And yeah...the opening, dang.
Agreed. I know some fans feel that section drags but I really enjoyed all of that talk. It filled in all the gaps in terms of what was going on but the discussion also took us into such interesting areas and even felt tragic. Thanks for the comment Melissa! Have a good weekend!
Love the shoutout for physical media! I only have the complete DVD set though, sadly not the Blu-rays. Anyway, I have mixed feelings on Season 4. This was never one of my favorites from the hour shows but George Grizzard is much better here than he was in The Chaser. Pity about Charles Beaumont. Taken from us much too soon! Great video as always, man!
Betamax! Sorry, a bit behind on comments. Mixed feelings on S4 are pretty common so I hear you. (I'm dreading covering The Bard) lol Thanks as always for checking in! Have a good one!
@@FeverDreamlandTheater Very curious to hear your thoughts on The Bard. I show that one to my students before we study Shakespeare. They love John Williams as Shakespeare and Burt Reynolds as Rocky but usually Jack Weston's acting ruins the experience for everyone.
I had already seen plenty of Twilight Zone episodes from the other seasons, but Season 4 was the first one I ever got on DVD. I can understand the sort of black sheep reputation it has, but I loved marathoning this season back then and still think it has some real gems. In His Image is definitely one of them.
Hey wassup Adorkable! DVD was pretty much my first time really getting into season 4 as well. It was a good chunk of TZ I was totally unfamiliar with. Much thanks for watching!
Right.
For the very reasons you mentioned in the video, I was really late to season 4. Just watched it for the first time last year. I went in having heard how bad it was. And yet, this episode was great. Really enjoyed it. So I really didn't understand the dislike of the season until about halfway through.
As always, great episode with top-notch editing, trivia, and cutaways.
Hey Rob, yeah for me off the top of my head, I think the season 4 misses were The Bard, Mute, I Dream of Genie and Incredible World of Horace Ford....there were some others in there that are maybe just okay. I'd always heard the same about S4 being bad as well...so when I saw episodes such as this one, 'Death Ship', 'New Exhibit' and 'On Thursday we Leave for Home' it was such a pleasant surprise. Anyway, thanks as always for watching dude, have a good week ahead!
@@FeverDreamlandTheater Valley of the Shadow, I believe it was called, was my favorite of the season. Really dug that one.
Robit😅 great review of this episode, I was intrigued with the intro with him throwing the lady into the train tracks, and the sounds he was hearing throughout, but it slowed down midway of the episode , but the ending was good. Awesome recap Anthony 💯
Cirespeed! Wassup man! Much thanks for checking in, yeah I think for some, the mid portion of this episode may or may not work. No matter how many robits are running around. ha ha
I really enjoy your reviews and "take" on it. You made this very interresting.
The episode had me going in a wrong direction because of all the religous imagry in the backgrounds.
Thank you.
Hey Grumpy Old Wizard, good to hear from you & thanks for the kind words. I felt the same way about the religious imagery on my first watch. You think it is maybe going one way, then another...then it sort of pivots into a strange new place.
Great review.
This is probably my favorite of the hour long ones. (Although, Death Ship is a close second).
Hey WW! Thanks for checking in man, always cool to hear which episodes are fan favs. Have a good one!
I forgot that they had a bunch of hour long eps! Very interesting. I’ve mostly watched Zone during marathons. I’ll check this episode out. Looks awesome. I recently watched episode one of Chiller. British anthology show. Great ep called Prophecy. It’s on the awesome channel Roku. Great vid, amigo! 👍🏻🎥🎥🎥🎥📽️📽️📽️📽️
Hey Max, now that sounds like a great anthology series, have to give it a go. Thanks for popping in man. Have a great week ahead!
Wow a season 4 ok great review straight away I thought Westworld and Terminator with the arm always great seeing new vids pop up
Hey Jason, hope you have been well. Thanks for checking in man, be well. Schwarzenegger thumbs up. 👍
Every episode of The Zone and your show are so unique that they never get old. Great video buddy, keep up the good work. ✌️
Hey Edmon, hope you've been well! Glad you like them! ✌️
@@FeverDreamlandTheater been in the twilight zone as only Burgess Meredith or 'capt. Kirk could testify too..........
Great clip of Data! 😂 Count me in as another one who hasn’t seen this one. I’ll have to check to see if I have the short story. Great review Anthony.
Ha ha, I'll take any excuse for a Star Trek clip featuring Data. Thanks Mr. Dan!
Thank you so much for doing these in-depth analysis. I for one think season 4 mimics the rest of the series some good some bad some mediocre. This in my opinion was one of the better ones. I am anxious to hear your commentary and analysis on the rest of season four keep up the good work.
Oh no prob, I love it, I just wish I could get them out faster. So far for season 4 I have 'I Dream of Genie' and 'Death Ship' covered. I'll likely make another poll with season 4 options and we'll see what everyone picks. Thanks socermomva! Be well!
I remember being freaked out by this episode when I was a child😂
I hear that. I saw this one later in life but still, there's so much oddness and confusion throughout and the reveal is very disturbing.
Season 4 isn't my favorite to be honest, but I like it in its own right. Another fine review and analysis, Anthony! AI is the very first thing I thought of when I watched this episode. You are right we live in an age of advancing AI. Makes you wonder if we do have androids in the future what our society will be like.
Hey Charles! All of these discussions on AI right now are incredible. The future is here but it feels like we're still catching up and trying not to let it overtake us.
I always go into this TZ episode really wanting to love it because of Beaumont's concept, but it ends up falling a bit flat for me in the end. From one New Yorker to another, nice job on the breakdown.
A fellow NY'er & a fellow TZ fan. Good to meet you Joe! I just hit up your channel & looking forward to catching up with your work. 🤜🤛 Thanks, have a good one!
Another great video! Robit, Robit, Robit 😄
😁 Thanks riverbluevert! 🤖🤖🤖
As always, another great review. I agree that the ending seemed rushed, but overall a good episode.
🤜🤛 Much thanks David! Have a great week ahead!
I read the short story last year. It made me go back and revisit the episode. I remember not liking it originally (I think it had more to do with the the 1 hour format than the content). There is actually a lot of good episodes on season 4. On Thursday We Leave for Home is one of my favorites (I remember watching it on Scifi when I was a kid, but seem to remember they cut it down to 30 minutes).
Hey BlackSpineHorror! Yeah I hear you, this is one that confused me on a first watch, it also felt jarring in some spots. Then on repeat viewings it really grew on me. I'd be real curious to see that trimmed version you noted of 'On Thursday we Leave for Home' to see how it plays.
Fabulous episode as always Anthony!
Hey Lisa! Thanks! : )
There are very few episodes that justify the hour long runtime and this is one that comes pretty close.
Agreed, for the most part I was digging this one even during the slower moments.
I quite like season 4 and I never thought the hour long format hurt it, my favorites are The New Exhibit, Valley of the Shadow, Jess Belle, Miniature.......the only episodes I do not like from this season are I Dream of Genie, and The Incredible World of Horace Ford
The Incredible World of Horace Ford....jeez that one was rough. Not looking forward to revisiting that one. Fingers crossed maybe I'll like it more though.
This was a crazy one
Thanks for the video essay.
Hope you got my comment. In short, I loved this episode. Number 15 on my list.😊
I'm not an American Christian, I'm a Christian who lives in America.
Never seen this episode but thevhook is quite intriguing. I love psychological, existential horror on the nature of the identity of the self and what it really means to be a person and an individual and if the "self" is a real thing that one creates or if the "self" is a piecemeal facsimile built up from the genes of your ancestors, which is way some of our personal mannerisms, likes and dislikes and quirks are similar or outright the same as those of parents, grandparents and great grandparents.
What does it even mean to be human let alone to be a person?
Incidentally, if you want to see a show that has a lot of that stuff i suggest an show called Nowhere Man.
A reporter takes a photograph of people being hung and when he refuses to give up the photo's negatives his entire world flips. His closest friends don't know who he is, even his own mother doesn't know him.
Hey Glenn! Okay now that seems like something I have to check into, sounds like a fascinating watch. As to your point about existential horror / the nature of the identity...these types of stories resonate with me at such a deep level. Long after I've written these reviews and uploaded the vids, the tales still stick with me. When I get to hear from others such as yourself, it makes it all the better. Anyway, much thanks for the comments, have a great week ahead & be well!
@@FeverDreamlandTheater I've seen a playlist here on youtube that says it has the full series. I intend to get to it eventually because I haven't watched the show since I was a kid.
Right now I'm going through a minor marathon of War of the Worlds (1988), based as a sequel to the 1950's movie except now with a lot of added body horror because the martians are also body snatchers.
Another Banger? 🎉
Heeey wassup supa_sets....this was an interesting one for sure.
This would be better for a movie
Hey Dale, that could have worked too. Another season 4 episode 'Mute' also feels more like a potential movie to me as well. Thanks for watching!
First! 😎👍
😁👍 Ha ha, Thanks!
