In this video I'm replacing a leaking strut on my 2011 Volvo S60. I thought this would be a 2-3hrs job, but turns out it took me most of the day - I guess because I'm not a mechanic :)
Enjoy :)

did my volvo v70 yesterday, took me at least 5 hours.
I feel for you.
The 13mm senterbolt loose it ( can stay in loose), steering rod off , stabilisator off, then you can do it that way you did if your not taking all off.
And that you stuggled with with bmw part, if i remember right that press up, so if you get it out it will still press up so its just to leave it on.
Did you line up the towerbearing mark with the strut, and also had the flat part facing in?, Thats very important :)
Also great to soak all bolts in wd40 or something before 😁
@@Morteexx yes, the flat part of the strut bearing is facing to the engine :)
I don’t know what you mean with the bmw part - i guess you mean the joint removal tool? The issue there was that it has narrower opening for the joint, so that is why I couldn’t put it on properly.
I used spray from Liqui moly for rusty bolts :)
It is fun to watch!
Thanks for watching! 😀
From the hights of your experience doing this project, would you say it would be easier to remove the entire knuckle strut assembly and then use the holding bolt separator and brass punch to remove the strut? Also question if volvo makes special freaking tool for those ball joints...looking at this P3 suspension and comparing it to P2 gen makes me hate Ford and their involvement in volvo process. Great job and happy you stayed safe.
Certainly that would be possible too, but then you also need to remove the brake caliper. But then with spring compressor, it is easier to assemble it off the car. Good luck! 👍
FYI, there are many universal ball joint removers, which work similarly like the one which I have, but they are slightly bigger and probably would fit better. I have just the one I’ve shown on video, but that was a bit too small for this particular ball joint.
Remove drive shaft bolt, you should of used pry bar on lower arm no need to clamp spring when strut is on car and no need to remove lower hub bolt on lower arm
@@michaelphillips5014 yeah now I know I should have just pryied it down right away:) btw, when I removed the drive shaft bolt, the shaft didn’t want to move, seem it was stuck
Tap it with a bar@@AlfisGarage
Please don’t use wood or straps Use proper tools to avoid accidents
You may follow car manuals for some specific detail on the make and model of the car you’re working on 🌺
I fully agree 👍
