Before you buy a costly window switch module, try this free fix first. The switch contact points often get corroded in these trucks. This can be caused by leaving your window down in the rain, or just from humidity.

Nice! One thing others have mentioned... it is better not to scrape on the contacts with something sharp or hard. The better approach is to get some contact cleaner or in a pinch some strong rubbing alcohol (91% or higher). Use that and Q-tips to clean the contacts. The problem is that the contacts have a thin layer of gold to prevent corrosion. If you scratch through that gold, it will fail due to corrosion and you will end up doing this over and over again. Oh, and everything you just did can also work on practically any remote control, TV, remote starter, whatever. Good on you for fixing rather than replacing.

What he's doing is freaking awesome, so I am not taking away from it, but your comment should be pinned to the top as I knew there had to be a better way to do his legitimate hack! Your comment also deserves a like from everyone who liked the video. And, ditto on the "instead of replacing" remark!

MAN!!!!! Out of 4 windows only front driver side worked partially. Used this method with exception of metal. I used 2000 grit sandpaper and it fixed all 4 windows. You saved me a lot of money and headache. Thank you! Btw it took me about 30 minutes to do all 4 doors.

This tip was a lifesaver. I have a 2004 Escalade EXT and the driver window had been buggy for weeks and required some button manipulation to get it up. That is until this morning where it totally failed. While looking for removal instructions I found your video. I took apart the switch which actually has 2 boards and cleaned the contacts on the board which were visibly corroded. The contacts in the rubber were graphite so I used a fingernail file on those. Reassembled and it was like new. You rock! Thanks for this info!

Thanks for the step by step instructions. Most other post showed removing the entire controller, quick fix, don't take apart anything you don't have too. I scraped mine with a scewdriver too but have seen others use a pencil eraser, probably less risk of tearing the membrane. Thanks again, I can roll up the passenger window again!

Thank you so very much for sharing this. I struggled with the 4 clips holding the switch assembly in the housing there, but ultimately I got it apart using 4 small tools to keep it pried while I removed it. There was visible corrosion on the contacts of the switch that stopped working, but now there isn't and it works like it should. I have an HHR which isn't a truck but is a Chevy in case anyone googles for that.
